Oh. My. Gawd. Where to start?!
This is one of the original properties for the area. Owned by one lovely family since the 1700's until your current (very lucky) host. The house was the post office from 1861 to 1961. One of the rooms was the hospice for the area... SPOOOOOKY!!!
There is a culvert from the 1700's on the property from where the province moved the highway sometime before the 40's. Neat!
Reggie took over ownership in 2020 and is keeping things as original as possible, but adding his touch, like his battle axe travel trailer, Franny, which makes her home in the driveway. She's worth a visit!
- TENT ADVANCED LEVEL LAKESIDE is by far the most beautiful; however, it is a small area, located on the edge of the property, and I can't be responsible for the neighbours to a certain extent.
Fort Nova is your home for as long as you choose. Let's get campy!
**KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE MAY BE OTHERS STAYING THERE** But there are multiple areas to choose from, including: the lawn, living amongst the pines, a forest clearing, or even lakeside (it's rough back there). You can have complete privacy and feel free to reach out to me at the house if you need anything.
For those with RV's, there is an exterior outlet and a water spigot, but please remember, others might be staying there so we need to play nice and share!
On the property, there is:

The Ship Wreck is a secluded getaway on Hennigar Lake 45 minutes from Halifax. It includes a converted 29’ sailboat, a large open air cookhouse including a wood fired pizza oven and propane fridge and stove and a wash house with composting toilet and gravity fed sink. In May we will have available a further sleeping accommodation featuring an antique double bedstead. An outdoor shower can wash away a day’s labours! Added amenities include kayaks, a horseshoe pitch, two fire pits, a play area including a basketball court and a hammock beneath the overhanging trees. A new 10’ by 15’ tenting / chilling area sits beneath the trees next to the amenities. Sandy walkways connect the beach to all of the different elements. Multiple spots around the property invite quiet reflection. Take your shoes off and stay a while… and if it’s Spring or Fall know that the rocket mass heater can keep you warm on the coolest, rainiest days.

Close to town but far enough away to feel rural. Reception but no wifi at the river. Set up a slack line or hammock in the daytime, explore the region, and enjoy a fire at night (currently there's a fire ban, scheduled to lift in October).
The river is fantastic for kayaking, canoeing and SUP. You can rent them in town, or BYO. I have one paddleboard available (and two life jackets) if you want to explore the water.

● Campsites are modest, intended for 1 RV, trailer or tent, and 1 vehicle.
● Rates are for up to 4 individuals, with a $5 surcharge for additional guests per night.
● Visitors are to check in at the office, arriving before 9pm, exiting by 11pm.
● Speed limit is 10 km/hr.
● Children are not to be unsupervised in the park and on a site by 11pm. Children on bikes require helmets, and no bikes or playground after dark.
● Midnight is quiet time, and no excessive noise ever please.
● Dogs are to be in your control, leashed and picked up after, with no excessive barking.
● Campfires are subject to Nova Scotia burn ban restrictions – no burning 8am-2pm ever. Check Burn Safe website at 2pm daily to see if 2pm or 7pm fires or permitted, or no fires at all. We sell firewood or you can bring your own. Do not move the firepit, and pits or campsites left littered will be a $10 cleaning fee.
● Recycling is mandatory, with garbage, recycling, cardboard, compost and empties bins on site.
● Campers must adhere to the rules for themselves, their family and visitors. Failure to do so will result in notice to leave. Campers are to pay for any property damage caused. No refunds will be granted, including for early departure.

We are situated on 65 acres of beautiful land. We have pasture and woodland to explore. We are located minutes from some of Nova Scotia's most picturesque beaches, including Rissers Beach Provincial Park, Crescent and Green Bay Beaches.
On the farm we have a herd of miniature goats, chickens, Kevin Bacon (pot belly pig) and a horse. Animals can be seen if arranged with host . The Ship Wreck is a secluded getaway on Hennigar Lake 45 minutes from Halifax. It includes a converted 29’ sailboat, a large open air cookhouse including a wood fired pizza oven and propane fridge and stove and a wash house with composting toilet and gravity fed sink. In May we will have available a further sleeping accommodation featuring an antique double bedstead. An outdoor shower can wash away a day’s labours! A new 10’ by 15’ tenting / chilling area sits beneath the trees next to the amenities. Sandy walkways connect the beach to all of the different elements. Close to town but far enough away to feel rural. Reception but no wifi at the river. Set up a slack line or hammock in the daytime, explore the region, and enjoy a fire at night (currently there's a fire ban, scheduled to lift in October).
The river is fantastic for kayaking, canoeing and SUP. You can rent them in town, or BYO. I have one paddleboard available (and two life jackets) if you want to explore the water.

● Campsites are modest, intended for 1 RV, trailer or tent, and 1 vehicle.
● Rates are for up to 4 individuals, with a $5 surcharge for additional guests per night.
● Visitors are to check in at the office, arriving before 9pm, exiting by 11pm.
● Speed limit is 10 km/hr.
● Children are not to be unsupervised in the park and on a site by 11pm. Children on bikes require helmets, and no bikes or playground after dark.
● Midnight is quiet time, and no excessive noise ever please.
● Dogs are to be in your control, leashed and picked up after, with no excessive barking.
● Campfires are subject to Nova Scotia burn ban restrictions – no burning 8am-2pm ever. Check Burn Safe website at 2pm daily to see if 2pm or 7pm fires or permitted, or no fires at all. We sell firewood or you can bring your own. Do not move the firepit, and pits or campsites left littered will be a $10 cleaning fee.
● Recycling is mandatory, with garbage, recycling, cardboard, compost and empties bins on site.
● Campers must adhere to the rules for themselves, their family and visitors. Failure to do so will result in notice to leave. Campers are to pay for any property damage caused. No refunds will be granted, including for early departure.

You can hear a little traffic from the road but it was faint and silent at night. Generally so peaceful and the reflection of the red barn across the river looked like a painting. Weekend Trip to Ingomar Oceanfront Camping
The site was lovely, right next to the sea with a beautiful view. The tent has everything you need, to cook, a bbq outside and heat plate inside, the gaz is included and there's solar powered lamp in the tent above on the table to cook inside. We just used our own French press to make coffee in the morning but that's about it !
The bed is lovely, there is an extra mattress for a third person. The site very quiet and we slept like babies.
We had a very good night !

We arrived at sunset to Reginald’s farmhouse. Yard was mainly flat and easy to navigate. Sunset was beautiful, and we didn’t know when we booked that it was so close to the seaside.
We ate an apple from the tree which was delicious. Farmhouse is a little museum onto itself and smells slightly of damp. Bathroom has all necessities and shower was excellent.
Overall a perfect peaceful spot to stay!

For me, Fort Nova was heaven and strategically located. The peaceful setting was great. That peace was interrupted at times as I hiked down the trail to the huge beaver pond each morning with coffee in hand. The interruption was, many mornings, from either an eagle or an osprey.
Located an hour from Yarmouth and an hour from Liverpool, the farm was perfectly located to explore the entire southern part of the province. And, next door was a restaurant with a view of Jordan Bay.

I loved my time at the bell tent. The view from the bed facing the screen door is beautiful and listening to the sound of the waves on the shore lulls you to sleep.
There are enough amenities to be comfortable but it is rustic enough that you still have the simplicity of camping. A perfect combination for someone my age.
The host is friendly and very accommodating. Many lovely beaches and sites to see within close driving distance. I would love to go back sometime!

Fort Nova, for me, was heaven. Perfectly situated to explore the southeast corner of Nova Scotia. Yarmouth was only hour to the east and Liverpool an hour to the north. Charming Lockport, with it expansive beach, was fifteen minutes away. The solitude and the grounds are fantastic. My morning walk along the trail, through the pines, to the expansive beaver pond was magical. A place that allows one to experience quiet and solitude...except for the screech of the bald eagle.

Directions were clear to get to site, hosts were quick to respond to various queries & had done their research on DNR regulations & how they applied to their properties in light of the forest fire, trail access, & burn ban situation surrounding my visit. Owl's Hollow is the perfect place for a getaway - Karen and Ben have truly thought about everything! In the Hut there was a book about forest bathing, and their property is truly the epitome of it - peaceful, serene and therapeutic.
