"Big Blue" sits atop a lawn covered hill on the shore of the Cobequid Bay. A grove of fir and pine trees offer a sense of woodland solitude and fairies. The energy is magical. You can enjoy a front row seat or amble down over the lawn to sit on the end of the public wharf to watch the tidal bore squeeze into the mouth of the Shubenacadie River. It won't be long and you can marvel at the force of the water as it turns and begins to pour back toward the Bay of Fundy. Walk across the dyke to reach the oldest continually operating general store in North America - Frieze and Roy. Beyond the Wharf, a locally stocked craft shop borders us on the easterly side of the lawn. Next to it you will find Dawson Dowel Picnic Park, a playground and basketball court. On the westerly side of the driveway you there is a marsh area. The remnants of the shipyard where the WD Lawrence was built in the 1800's can be seen poking through the sand on the beach directly in front of the marsh. At low tide you can walk for miles in a westerly direction. Always be Tide Aware! Across the road from the marsh is the residence of WD Lawrence himself. It is a provincial museum. Directly across from Big Blue is a Ducks Unlimited pond. The sound of the geese and ducks can be heard 24 hours a day! There is a path that circumvents most of the pond. Adjacent to the Lawrence House parking lot there is an observatory where you can linger and watch the shenanigans of the occasional muskrat or possibly a beaver. The washrooms are accessed through a side door on the verandah of the main house. There are three showers and three toilets. If happen to be missing your "workout" there is a treadmill and exercise bike available to use. Outdoor fire regulations are strictly adhered to. There is a BBQ available for a small fee. Please stay within the marked boundary There is a private area cleared out directly off the trans Canada trail with a 12x12 wooden platform . NO VEICHLE ACCESS. ONLY accessible to the site by ATV, SXS, bicycle, or hiking . Room to park 2 SXS in the site . Platform has tie downs on all 4 corners , do not peg or nail tent to platform. No bathroom on site, please don't leave behind your business. Small camp fires are allowed in the fire pit as long as there is no provincial burn ban . Feel free to forage any downed sticks and branches within the site . Please do not leave behind garbage and waste ,try to leave it the same or better than you found it . This site is located in the woods so be aware of animals , bugs , and such . We had a great two night stay at the Owl's Nest cabin. Helmut answered all of our questions before we left and transported us to the cabin to show us around the cabin and property. Cabin is secluded and off-grid. Our dog was not a fan of the steep stairs to the loft. Don't forget to bring your orange vest and remember to check for ticks. Highly recommend for those looking for a quiet getaway.

We absolutely loved our stay at Owl’s Nest! Helmut treated you like family, sharing his experiences tending the forest and the cabin that he built. If you’re looking for a place to get off-grid, connect with nature, and be able to explore the many trails just outside your door, this is the place! We especially appreciated how the land was private, so that we could let our pup explore without worrying about running into any other dog owners. It was a great to share this cabin and we will certainly be coming back!

Gloria was a friendly host and the big grassy yard that she offered was a good place to camp near the Bay of Fundy where you could watch the tides come and go.. There’s a nice walking trail from her place to the village of Maitland where we got a very decent dinner at a good price. The bathroom facilities were substandard, not clean, but made available whenever we needed it. Overall, it was a decent experience, although perhaps a bit overpriced.

Absolutely beautiful! What view! It's an off grid camping spot in the most beautiful area. There is an outhouse that was clean. Dan was quick to respond to any questions I had and check in to make sure I was okay or needed anything. That view though is everything. I would wake up looking out at that view everyday if I could. Also had 5g out there which was nice to still be connected. I will definitely be staying here again.

We surprised my parents with a stay at Bootsie Back 40 Cabin for their 40th anniversary, and it was absolutely perfect! The hosts went above and beyond with every detail. The cabin itself is so cozy and welcoming, surrounded by stunning fall colors that made the whole experience magical. My parents loved the peace and quiet — they spent their mornings sipping tea while listening to the birds sing. The hosts were wonderfully friendly and even took photos of my parents for me, which was such a thoughtful touch. They also got to visit the farm animals (including two emus!), which they absolutely adored. Thank you for helping me give my parents such a memorable and heartfelt experience. This will be a trip they’ll cherish forever!

This property is 100% worth going out of your way for! We spent two nights, and unfortunately there was a fire ban and cloudy sky’s that obstructed star gazing, but even then waking up to the view from campsite 1 is spectacular. I didn’t see campsite 3, but 1 and 2 are both amazing- was able to get level with blocks in 24 ft. rig. The place is well marked on the road and it looks like the driveway has been recently graded- easy in our vehicle. Dan was very responsive. Would absolutely return, and if it were campfire weather- I’d spend multiple days relaxing there for sure! There is a road down to the water and rocky beach where you can watch the amazing tides roll out. If you’re on an open journey- worth spending some time in this spot and area.

We absolutely loved our stay at the treehouse! The space itself is beautiful and thoughtfully designed, with everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing retreat. The trails and the privacy made it feel like a true escape, and the quiet surroundings were just what we were looking for. One of the highlights was being able to stargaze right from bed — such a magical experience. The kitchen and amenities were well stocked, which made meals easy and stress-free. The swing set and hammocks were a huge hit with both the kids and adults alike, adding such a fun and playful touch to the stay. It really was the perfect combination of comfort, nature, and little details that made it memorable. We’d come back in a heartbeat and highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a unique getaway. Next time we'd love to stay for several nights and really make the most of it.
