Stay at our completely private cabin (sleeps 3 comfortably, sleeping mats/air mattresses NOT provided) isolated within the centre of a gorgeous 25-acre forest with a private groomed c. 1.5 km walking/biking trail. The cabin is a 5-minute walk from the Trans Canada RailTrail which grants easy access for longer bike rides, runs, hikes, and four-wheeler adventures. You’ll walk through a horse pasture and a cow pasture on your way to the cabin. There is a large farm pond (10ft deep) on the property for swimming. Enjoy access to locally-sourced food, firewood (at a small fee), drinking water, a private firepit, small wood stove and our old-fashioned wood-fired cook stove. There is no electricity or running water (but we provide ample drinking water) and there can be access to a charger box so you may charge your devices or have a light at night. "Big Blue" sits atop a lawn covered hill on the shore of the Cobequid Bay. A grove of fir and pine trees offer a sense of woodland solitude and fairies. The energy is magical.
You can enjoy a front row seat or amble down over the lawn to sit on the end of the public wharf to watch the tidal bore squeeze into the mouth of the Shubenacadie River. It won't be long and you can marvel at the force of the water as it turns and begins to pour back toward the Bay of Fundy.
Walk across the dyke to reach the oldest continually operating general store in North America - Frieze and Roy. Beyond the Wharf, a locally stocked craft shop borders us on the easterly side of the lawn. Next to it you will find Dawson Dowel Picnic Park, a playground and basketball court.
On the westerly side of the driveway you there is a marsh area. The remnants of the shipyard where the WD Lawrence was built in the 1800's can be seen poking through the sand on the beach directly in front of the marsh. At low tide you can walk for miles in a westerly direction. Always be Tide Aware!
Across the road from the marsh is the residence of WD Lawrence himself. It is a provincial museum. Directly across from Big Blue is a Ducks Unlimited pond. The sound of the geese and ducks can be heard 24 hours a day! There is a path that circumvents most of the pond. Adjacent to the Lawrence House parking lot there is an observatory where you can linger and watch the shenanigans of the occasional muskrat or possibly a beaver.
The washrooms are accessed through a side door on the verandah of the main house. There are three showers and three toilets. If happen to be missing your "workout" there is a treadmill and exercise bike available to use.
Outdoor fire regulations are strictly adhered to. There is a BBQ available for a small fee.

"Big Blue" sits atop a lawn covered hill on the shore of the Cobequid Bay. A grove of fir and pine trees offer a sense of woodland solitude and fairies. The energy is magical.
You can enjoy a front row seat or amble down over the lawn to sit on the end of the public wharf to watch the tidal bore squeeze into the mouth of the Shubenacadie River. It won't be long and you can marvel at the force of the water as it turns and begins to pour back toward the Bay of Fundy.
Walk across the dyke to reach the oldest continually operating general store in North America - Frieze and Roy. Beyond the Wharf, a locally stocked craft shop borders us on the easterly side of the lawn. Next to it you will find Dawson Dowel Picnic Park, a playground and basketball court.
On the westerly side of the driveway you there is a marsh area. The remnants of the shipyard where the WD Lawrence was built in the 1800's can be seen poking through the sand on the beach directly in front of the marsh. At low tide you can walk for miles in a westerly direction. Always be Tide Aware!
Across the road from the marsh is the residence of WD Lawrence himself. It is a provincial museum. Directly across from Big Blue is a Ducks Unlimited pond. The sound of the geese and ducks can be heard 24 hours a day! There is a path that circumvents most of the pond. Adjacent to the Lawrence House parking lot there is an observatory where you can linger and watch the shenanigans of the occasional muskrat or possibly a beaver.
The washrooms are accessed through a side door on the verandah of the main house. There are three showers and three toilets. If happen to be missing your "workout" there is a treadmill and exercise bike available to use.
Outdoor fire regulations are strictly adhered to. There is a BBQ available for a small fee.

Welcome to our safe-space Rustic Black Lab Retreat where Sullivan is resident lab! While our property is situated in the middle of the village of Pugwash and is well under an acre we offer it as a hip camp listing because we think it's a piece of paradise with a big vibe and plenty of room to relax. We offer simple amenities such as a bbq, picnic tables and campfire chairs. There’s an outdoor shower, an outdoor kitchen and a big deck to chill on. Maybe you need a night or two to catch up with practical matters but still want to feel like you're in nature - if so this could be the place for you. We check fire ban restrictions daily and will keep campers informed of the status. If it's raining we will try to accommodate you inside our home!

We had a great two night stay at the Owl's Nest cabin. Helmut answered all of our questions before we left and transported us to the cabin to show us around the cabin and property. Cabin is secluded and off-grid. Our dog was not a fan of the steep stairs to the loft. Don't forget to bring your orange vest and remember to check for ticks. Highly recommend for those looking for a quiet getaway.

We absolutely loved our stay at Owl’s Nest! Helmut treated you like family, sharing his experiences tending the forest and the cabin that he built. If you’re looking for a place to get off-grid, connect with nature, and be able to explore the many trails just outside your door, this is the place! We especially appreciated how the land was private, so that we could let our pup explore without worrying about running into any other dog owners. It was a great to share this cabin and we will certainly be coming back!

Gloria was a friendly host and the big grassy yard that she offered was a good place to camp near the Bay of Fundy where you could watch the tides come and go.. There’s a nice walking trail from her place to the village of Maitland where we got a very decent dinner at a good price. The bathroom facilities were substandard, not clean, but made available whenever we needed it. Overall, it was a decent experience, although perhaps a bit overpriced.

We arrived with our trailer which is self contained late in the season and Manuel's place welcomed us with friendly hospitality . We stayed one night and the weather was rainy so we did not have a chance to hike the property but the welcome was warm and friendly.

The treehouse has everything you need- from running water, a full outdoor kitchen, a/c for those hot nights and a cute wood stove for the cold nights. We absolutely loved our stay at the treehouse! The space itself is beautiful and thoughtfully designed, with everything you need for a comfortable and relaxing retreat. The trails and the privacy made it feel like a true escape, and the quiet surroundings were just what we were looking for.
One of the highlights was being able to stargaze right from bed — such a magical experience. The kitchen and amenities were well stocked, which made meals easy and stress-free.
The swing set and hammocks were a huge hit with both the kids and adults alike, adding such a fun and playful touch to the stay. It really was the perfect combination of comfort, nature, and little details that made it memorable.
We’d come back in a heartbeat and highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a unique getaway. Next time we'd love to stay for several nights and really make the most of it.

Helmut was so nice, and his cabin was exceptional. We were nested into the forrest, cut from the rest of the world. The cabin has everything you need, including a pump and head shower, perfect for a quick wash. I would definitely recommend!

Weekend Trip to Beach and Forest
Besides being the cabin weve ever been to, this cabin is perfect to get away from it all. We really felt recharged and rested and able to reconnect with nature. We saw plenty of different birds, including a flock of Cedar Waxwings and Woodpeckers. The wild blackberries also make for a delicious treat while exploring the surroundings. The atmosphere inside the cabin, during day or night, compares to no other. It is a pleasure for the senses and its solid wood structure has hints Alpine Forest wilderness.
You can not go wrong booking the owl's nest.

Just wow!!! The hosts are beyond awesome. They have worked very hard to create a unique and awesome space to camp/ relax and they have certainly achieved it. The setting is pure magic and they couldnt be more welcoming, everything you need is there for easy and fun camping. With incredible swimming, mountain biking, hiking, and Bay of Fundy near by its a wonder this place isn't reserved months out in advance. Do your self a favor and go visit this beautiful campsite in a pristine valley. We stumbled across it on our way home from a trip up north, now we have a new favorite spot, we will for sure be back. It truly is about as good as it gets for camping!!

What an amazing location. Gloria is so friendly and accommodating. We parked our 16ft camper on top of the hill and had a wonderful Fundy breeze all night. Sunrise from the dock is a must see. Would highly recommend this hipcamp to all travellers.
