The center of the province includes Alberta’s Cowboy Trail, where cattle ranches are still active and you can trace the area’s cowboy past. Visit Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site to learn about Alberta’s heritage as a fur trading hub, as well as its indigenous First Nations and Métis cultures.

Edmonton is the jumping-off point for both Jasper National Park and the province’s vast north, where remote Wood Buffalo National Park extends into the Northwest Territories. But you don’t have to go far to delve into the wild—just outside Edmonton, more than 1,000 bison roam the protected prairies of Elk Island National Park.

Collin’s Wood is a very special place indeed. The land was bought by my grandfather years ago when he moved to Canada from England and wanted to chase his log cabin dream. Our main cabin my family built from trees on the land, entirely by hand. We have photos of the trees being cut and the bark being peeled off. Since then, we’ve made many changes out there, we now have a guest cabin that used to be a Teacheridge (back when teachers would live in a one room building beside the school), eventually it was turned into a cafe and now it sits on our land as a guest cabin. This place is so magical. With a quarter section of land I grew up running through the forest with my friends and learning about what the land has to offer. My parents have spent every spare weekend out there making this paradise into what it is today. All the buildings were created by my family through labour and love. Forest Retreat is a good fit if you’re looking for something more ‘down to earth’.. humble AND comfortable, with great indoor and outdoor spaces. I have been an organic market gardener for 25 years and now am downsizing the farm to welcome visitors to experience the Land, cabins and event space here. I enjoy creating cozy, welcoming spaces that invite you to slow down, breathe deeply, relax, explore outdoors or stay in and recharge. The buildings are not new but they are well cared for. The outside and inside areas are clean and tidy, while also showing their age and good use…just like those of us who live here :D The well water is plentiful, potable and very rich in minerals. It leaves orange staining and a white residue where the water sits (think toilet/shower/sinks). It is cleaned thoroughly. I provide bottles of reverse osmosis water in all cabins for drinking and to use in kettles/coffee makers. Shared full kitchen/washroom with shower available, walking trails (bush trails), screened shared gazebo, hammocks and picnic tables. Now with a pool! (subject to conditions). Separately, the ‘Beaver lodge’ and Camping sites are located down river on 5 acres of mowed grassland next to 10 acres of wetland. Room for multiple mobile campers. ‘Rustic’ sites. Bottled water. No power. Beaver lodge has sleeping (foam mattresses) for 4, camping stove, kettle, frypan, 2 chairs/table). Bring your own everything else. Like camping but MUCH easier and enjoyable! No kitchen/washroom access. Pit toilet. Home to Willow, poplar and Spruce in a thriving ecosystem. Excellent Bird watching, abundant wildlife and access to the Sturgeon River (subject to conditions). Easily accessed, only minutes from a main highway. Nearby large lakes and rivers and hiking trails. Sun and shade, dark sky at night.

Quiet, majestic back to nature spot! This is a place to get away from a busy life. With close proximity to Winchell Lake, this land is ideal for fishing, hiking or simply enjoying the breathtaking scenery. We have 4 campsites available for tent or RV/trailer campers. If you're bringing an RV, we have two power outlets and water available. You will be parking on a field and the site requires levelling. Electricity and firewood are both available for purchase (see extras below). Please add this to your reservation at the time of booking. Campfires are permitted, pets are welcome. Potable water, picnic table, and outhouse are all available. We have cows, goats, chickens, horses and dogs and cats on the property that generally love people. :) I have only one dog and typically allow dogs to run off leash. We do have to be careful that it doesn't turn to a dog gang as this happened once and they took down one of my goats. The goats Hon and Chewy are okay but it took months for poor Hon to heal. I also worry about the chickens and the cats so please keep and eye on your dogs! Lots of treed areas for private camping, horseback riding hiking and walking! Bird watching is big around here as we are on a bird migratory path. We are just above Winchell Lake and less than 10 km from Water Valley Golf Course and Saloon. Please recognize that you are visiting a Ranch not a campsite. We are sharing our piece of heaven with you and you are helping to support our animals and their heaven. Chickens are "True" Free Range and hand fed every morning. Eggs are $10 a dozen to pay for their feed. :) Every spring the rain tends to cause ruts and washes out some of the road on the way to the back forty where the meadow is. We gather rocks on the property to fill the ditches but the early part of the year the roads can be bumpy. Please ask the conditions of the road when you book if you have concerns. Thanks!

It was generally very quiet and beautifully kept. The yard was lovely to wander around. The dog definitely did his job of keeping coyotes away all night long so we were glad we had a loud fan in our trailer. The eggs were great!

Bonnie and Mike have a great little place to tent or truck camp. The communication was A+. It’s a great place to come back to after all the activities in the area. The Emus and Ostrich are interesting to just watch.

Weekend Trip to Marigold Farm Cabin

My husband and I enjoyed our one night stay. Timothy was super responsive and hospitable. Campfire was the highlight of our trip since we were there for 1 night only, and Timothy kept plenty of firewood and advance instructions for us. The cabin was clean, had all kitchen amenities one could think of, and a very clean outhouse. I’d consider it again for winter camping.

3 nights at Nature Alive Adventures and Camping

My brother and I stayed at the Rest Nest from Thursday to Sunday. Awesome experience. The property is well maintained. The cabin is cozy and is pretty well stocked. The hottub itself, the area where it is located, and the community bathroom/shower areas are extremely clean and looked after. Large firepit is a vibe at night, with an incredible view of the starry night. The property has a solid amount of small trail walks, which is a cool addition to the property. Night time is an adventure, if you are brave in the dark, and can handle the intense silence. Dale recommended some solid places to check out, including a Freeman River spot, and Goose Lake Village. Those spots were a really nice addition to the trip, otherwise we probably would not have located them specifically. Dale took us down to the lake and set us up on our additional canoe adventure that we had added on to the stay. 2 hours on Goose Lake right at sunset, the water was like a mirror/glass. Extremely peaceful being the only ones on the lake. This would be a cool spot for a family gathering, friends, or reunion. It was a memorable and hilarious trip for my brother and I. We befriended a few badass farm cats, and some cool wildlife. Thanks again to Nature Alive Adventures. 🫡🤘🏻

Weekend Trip to Experience a Stay at Go Hard Ranch

We were all alone in the campground area, we parked so we faced the lake and hills. It was so peaceful and relaxing. We rode our bikes down to the campground/boat launch, was a nice ride. Saw my first owl on the first night. 2 Hawks. Many many geese lol. Gorgeous sunset and sunrises. The stars were the best I have seen in sooooooo long, we set up our Tent trailer cushions on the ground and laid there staring into the sky 😍 Half moon even shined for us for awhile. It was just an amazing stay.

Weekend Trip to Rough Diamond Ranch Alberta

Laura was a wonderful host and very knowledgeable equestrian! Her tack and horses were in excellent shape and ready for a safe and memorable ride. Thanks Laura for having us as guests for my sons 11th birthday party with his friends!. The scenery was great and the site for camping was the best we've enjoyed and was a real experience we will never forget! Having Sonny and Cher, Laura's dogs were also a treat and made us feel safe at night knowing their on watch! A real family oriented place to visit and will definitely come back and camp and fish the very nearby Winchell lake ! Thanks Laura will see you soon!

Weekend Trip to Collinswood Retreat

Simply fabulous on every level! This well-equipped treehouse made a quick getaway super easy --that much was essential for us. What pushed this hipcamp above-and-beyond: -the spectacular beauty of the land -the charm of the treehouse and surrounding property with fun surprises all over the place, some decorative, some functional, some humorous, some inspirational -visits with the super friendly horses that free roam the property -the warmth and hospitality of the hosts So much is supplied (bedding, kitchen supplies, lighting) it is easier to list what you do need to bring: your food, personal items (clothing, toiletries), perhaps a swim suit for the sauna, and hotdog sticks (I got a whole set of compact telescoping ones for 10 bucks on Amazon). Hand warmers in the fall. We only had 24 hrs for a getaway. The ease of coming here was key for me to unwind like I needed. Seeing the milky way, visiting with horses, roasting countless marshmallows (and weiners, and pineapple...), making new memories with my kids, and just aimlessly wandering the sprawling grounds was the tonic I needed after a very stressful couple months. Thank you so much, Geri and Pat!!

1 night at Nature Alive Adventures and Camping

I rented the rest nest out for an overnight getaway with my girlfriend and it was perfect! Dale was so friendly and personable. He gave us directions for some different paths around the property (which we walked on) and informed us about a lake that was about a 5 minute drive away (which we swam in) it was absolutely beautiful. After that we had a nice soak in the hot tub before cooking supper over the fire! Dale even supplied to wood and there was plenty of tables and places to sit. We finished the night off with some s’mores and stargazing before having the best sleep ever in the nice comfy bed provided. Couldn’t recommend this place enough! We had a great time :)

Weekend Trip to Avant Gardens

We had such a wonderful stay here over the Labour Day long weekend! It was exactly the kind of peaceful getaway we were looking for. Coming from Calgary, it was so nice to disconnect from the city, slow down, and simply enjoy the quiet and nature around us. Our dogs absolutely loved it too — having the space and freedom to run around off leash made the trip even more enjoyable for all of us. There is no water or electricity, but for us, that was actually part of the experience. It really helped us unplug and recharge, and we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay comfortably. Eugene and Kerry were wonderful hosts. They gave us a tour of their farm, which we really enjoyed, and even gifted us a small jar of honey produced right there on the farm — such a thoughtful and lovely touch! Everything was exactly what we had hoped for: peaceful, private, relaxing, and away from the noise of the city. We left feeling refreshed, and our dogs definitely enjoyed their little countryside adventure too. We would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking to get away from the city, spend some quiet time in nature, and truly recharge. We would happily stay here again!
