The gateway to the Rockies, Calgary is also a short drive from the Canadian Badlands, where you can explore unusual hoodoos and rocky canyons. The region around Drumheller and Dinosaur Provincial Park, where Canada’s early dinosaurs were unearthed, has plenty to interest paleontology fans.

The center of the province includes Alberta’s Cowboy Trail, where cattle ranches are still active and you can trace the area’s cowboy past. Visit Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site to learn about Alberta’s heritage as a fur trading hub, as well as its indigenous First Nations and Métis cultures.

Edmonton is the jumping-off point for both Jasper National Park and the province’s vast north, where remote Wood Buffalo National Park extends into the Northwest Territories. But you don’t have to go far to delve into the wild—just outside Edmonton, more than 1,000 bison roam the protected prairies of Elk Island National Park.

Collin’s Wood is a very special place indeed. The land was bought by my grandfather years ago when he moved to Canada from England and wanted to chase his log cabin dream. Our main cabin my family built from trees on the land, entirely by hand. We have photos of the trees being cut and the bark being peeled off. Since then, we’ve made many changes out there, we now have a guest cabin that used to be a Teacheridge (back when teachers would live in a one room building beside the school), eventually it was turned into a cafe and now it sits on our land as a guest cabin. This place is so magical. With a quarter section of land I grew up running through the forest with my friends and learning about what the land has to offer. My parents have spent every spare weekend out there making this paradise into what it is today. All the buildings were created by my family through labour and love. We’ve hosted weddings, and family reunions. We hope you appreciate how special this place is. Come see for yourself!

Quiet, majestic back to nature spot! This is a place to get away from a busy life. With close proximity to Winchell Lake, this land is ideal for fishing, hiking or simply enjoying the breathtaking scenery. We have 4 campsites available for tent or RV/trailer campers. If you're bringing an RV, we have two power outlets and water available. You will be parking on a field and the site requires levelling. Electricity and firewood are both available for purchase (see extras below). Please add this to your reservation at the time of booking. Campfires are permitted, pets are welcome. Potable water, picnic table, and outhouse are all available. We have cows, goats, chickens, horses and dogs and cats on the property that generally love people. :) I have only one dog and typically allow dogs to run off leash. We do have to be careful that it doesn't turn to a dog gang as this happened once and they took down one of my goats. The goats Hon and Chewy are okay but it took months for poor Hon to heal. I also worry about the chickens and the cats so please keep and eye on your dogs! Lots of treed areas for private camping, horseback riding hiking and walking! Bird watching is big around here as we are on a bird migratory path. We are just above Winchell Lake and less than 10 km from Water Valley Golf Course and Saloon. Please recognize that you are visiting a Ranch not a campsite. We are sharing our piece of heaven with you and you are helping to support our animals and their heaven. Chickens are "True" Free Range and hand fed every morning. Eggs are $10 a dozen to pay for their feed. :) Every spring the rain tends to cause ruts and washes out some of the road on the way to the back forty where the meadow is. We gather rocks on the property to fill the ditches but the early part of the year the roads can be bumpy. Please ask the conditions of the road when you book if you have concerns. Thanks!

He welcomed us at check-in and made sure everything was ready for our stay. The campsite was very quiet and peaceful, and having a portable bathroom and garbage disposal available at the site was very convenient. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend this place!

Weekend Trip to Red Rock Farm

We spent 1 night tent camping on Keiths farm yard, and it was nothing short of Fantastic!! The yard has a perfect blend of trees and open grass for lots of nice little spots for folks to set up. The fire pit area is quite big and perfect for everyone to gather 'round, and Keith kept the wood pile well stocked and even some newspaper weighted down on the picnic table nearby for a super easy time starting a nice flame going. The on-site porta-potty for campers to use for a washroom was immaculate and was also kept very well stocked. The farm fresh eggs from the chickens that Keith gave us were incredible in the omlettes we made in the morning, too! Just an all around perfect trip, thank-you so so so much for your hospitality Keith!

We instant-booked Greg’s campsite after our travel plans changed at the last minute and we had to find somewhere to stay ASAP. My boyfriend and I decided to head to Waterton since it was the only place without rain, but every affordable hotel and campground was completely booked. We’d never used Hipcamp before, but Greg’s property came up on Google, so we booked three nights, and honestly, it was one of the best decisions of our trip! Greg is incredibly friendly and welcoming. We loved our evening chats and listening to his stories. He’s funny, genuine, and made us feel right at home. Since our plans changed so suddenly, we forgot firewood. Greg sold us some for only $10, and despite a few reviews saying otherwise, it burned great, there was lots of it, and it was a much better deal than buying wood in town. The property is only about 20 minutes from Waterton with beautiful mountain views. The bats kept the mosquitoes away, so evenings around the campfire were actually enjoyable! We were even lucky enough to see the aurora and spend hours stargazing under an incredibly clear sky. Overall, we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. We originally stayed because we had no other options, but we’d gladly come back just for Greg’s hospitality. Thank you for making our trip so memorable, we’ll definitely be back and highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Waterton!

Such a warm welcome by a delightful family. We had the chance to pet the cattle and even ride a horse! Our RV was parked at one end of their land, in full privacy. My daughter said it was the best camping site ever.

Nice large sites. The host said that she does not check the HipCamp app, and she did not know we were coming. Had to idle outside the gate for a few minutes until she noticed us. “Are you Hipcampers?” She is quite busy it seems. Very kind and helpful once we got in. Nice large fire pits and picnic benches. Plenty of walking space around the wedding venue area. Sunsets can’t be beat!

Weekend Trip to Park Setting Ranch Venue Retreat with Private Camping Area

We really enjoyed our group camping trip on Kari's property. The camping area is nice and private from the main house, with plenty of space for the kids to run around. We were mesmerized by the fireflies in the field at night and entertained by the cows grazing during the day! (from a distance, no bother or smell from them). Kari was so kind and offered accommodations above and beyond when we found the weather turning on us. We ended up cutting our trip a day short due to a non-stop downpour but we would definitely come back to Kari's lovely property again in the future!
