The town of Canmore, 20 minutes’ drive from Banff’s south entrance, is a good place to get supplies. Waterton Lakes National Park borders Montana’s Glacier National Park south of Calgary and across the border in the U.S.

The gateway to the Rockies, Calgary is also a short drive from the Canadian Badlands, where you can explore unusual hoodoos and rocky canyons. The region around Drumheller and Dinosaur Provincial Park, where Canada’s early dinosaurs were unearthed, has plenty to interest paleontology fans.

The center of the province includes Alberta’s Cowboy Trail, where cattle ranches are still active and you can trace the area’s cowboy past. Visit Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site to learn about Alberta’s heritage as a fur trading hub, as well as its indigenous First Nations and Métis cultures.

Edmonton is the jumping-off point for both Jasper National Park and the province’s vast north, where remote Wood Buffalo National Park extends into the Northwest Territories. But you don’t have to go far to delve into the wild—just outside Edmonton, more than 1,000 bison roam the protected prairies of Elk Island National Park.

Quiet, majestic back to nature spot! This is a place to get away from a busy life. With close proximity to Winchell Lake, this land is ideal for fishing, hiking or simply enjoying the breathtaking scenery. We have 4 campsites available for tent or RV/trailer campers. If you're bringing an RV, we have two power outlets and water available. You will be parking on a field and the site requires levelling. Electricity and firewood are both available for purchase (see extras below). Please add this to your reservation at the time of booking. Campfires are permitted, pets are welcome. Potable water, picnic table, and outhouse are all available. We have cows, goats, chickens, horses and dogs and cats on the property that generally love people. :) I have only one dog and typically allow dogs to run off leash. We do have to be careful that it doesn't turn to a dog gang as this happened once and they took down one of my goats. The goats Hon and Chewy are okay but it took months for poor Hon to heal. I also worry about the chickens and the cats so please keep and eye on your dogs! Lots of treed areas for private camping, horseback riding hiking and walking! Bird watching is big around here as we are on a bird migratory path. We are just above Winchell Lake and less than 10 km from Water Valley Golf Course and Saloon. Please recognize that you are visiting a Ranch not a campsite. We are sharing our piece of heaven with you and you are helping to support our animals and their heaven. Chickens are "True" Free Range and hand fed every morning. Eggs are $10 a dozen to pay for their feed. :) Every spring the rain tends to cause ruts and washes out some of the road on the way to the back forty where the meadow is. We gather rocks on the property to fill the ditches but the early part of the year the roads can be bumpy. Please ask the conditions of the road when you book if you have concerns. Thanks!

Collin’s Wood is a very special place indeed. The land was bought by my grandfather years ago when he moved to Canada from England and wanted to chase his log cabin dream. Our main cabin my family built from trees on the land, entirely by hand. We have photos of the trees being cut and the bark being peeled off. Since then, we’ve made many changes out there, we now have a guest cabin that used to be a Teacheridge (back when teachers would live in a one room building beside the school), eventually it was turned into a cafe and now it sits on our land as a guest cabin. This place is so magical. With a quarter section of land I grew up running through the forest with my friends and learning about what the land has to offer. My parents have spent every spare weekend out there making this paradise into what it is today. All the buildings were created by my family through labour and love. We’ve hosted weddings, and family reunions. We hope you appreciate how special this place is. Come see for yourself!

Weekend Trip to Hidden Springs Retreat & Guesthouse

My boyfriend and I had a very last minute booking but Barb was very kind and accommodating. We were lucky enough to have the whole space to ourselves well except for Barb’s dog, Fox, who is just the most affectionate and behaved companion out there. I would recommend booking the sauna it was very relaxing and for 2hrs it is quite worth the price, Barb even offered to let us shower in her house after if we wanted. The beds were very comfortable and provided plenty of warmth during the night. Overall it is a great site to book with lots of field and plenty of things to do.

Highlight of my week long trip! Cant say enough good things about the hosts. The most kind and accommodating hosts I've met along my travels. I initially booked a site to tent at, but due to a grizzly hanging around and me travelling solo they upgraded my site free of charge for my safety. They made sure I had everything I needed, and made it feel like home, even lent me a speaker for the night :) Nooow let's talk about the property, my stay here felt like stepping into a fairytale. The property is magical ✨️ everything on the land is unique and built by the owners. You can feel the passion and care that went into creating such a unique and beautiful place. What a trip! Will definitely be back and staying longer next time ☺️

This place is absolutely incredible! I’m thrilled I discovered it, though I kind of wish I could keep it a secret! Traveling solo, I felt completely safe and found the atmosphere so relaxing. I had one of the best night’s sleep ever in the treehouse. The outdoor bathtub was a standout feature—such a unique experience! 2 nights at Red Rock Farm

My boyfriend and myself tented at RedRock Farm yard for 2 nights. Keith and his wife Kathy were wonderful hosts. The farm fresh eggs in the morning was a great touch. We enjoyed visiting with their goats, sheep, chickens and the sweetest dog Davy. I highly recommend spending a couple nights at their adorable little farm yard. We will definitely be going back.

Weekend Trip to Hidden Springs Retreat & Guesthouse

Barb, the Host, made us feel so very welcome. We felt a real connection to her, even though we did not interact overly much. Fox, one of her dogs, will make you feel even more welcome. So well behaved and mildly loving. Our nights were 0 to -2 Celsius, yet the blankets and tent were wildly cozy and secure. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back. A few things to know. Make sure you bring everything you need to get by. We were the first visitors of the year, so I suspect there may be some great to have amenities in later weeks. Ensure you bring a stove, all food you need, and so on. Barb provides firewood and it’s incredibly dry and burns wonderfully. So that all good. Be forewarned that there is no shower (but she welcomed us to shower in her home) or running water (again, she had that on hand I’d needed), and it can get damned cold (cannot overstate how warm and comfy the beds were and slept like a baby in the cold) but a blessing in the warmth of the bedding. Very reasonable pricing. I encourage you to give it a go. We definitely will visit Barb again, even if to just say hi because she is that kinda person.

Weekend Trip to Elk Island Getaway

Site was nicely maintained with lots of birds around the pond. It was nice to watch the fish jumping in the pond while sitting at the fire having a tasty beverage. I would (and already have) recommend Elk Island Getaway to friends and family. Oh yeah, they also have to best smelling porta potty I have ever been in.

Just finished our stay at the Rustic cabin, and we will be back! The property is beautiful, and the dogs loved being able to go leash free! Everything is exactly as described, if not better, and the hosts were amazing to deal with! If your looking for an off the grid get away, this is it!!

Weekend Trip to Fungi Forest Retreat

We loved our time at this amazing camp! We had everything we could ask for and more! The ammenities were above and beyond what we were expecting (Hello propane BBQ!) The cabins were roomy and well kept. The solar lights around the property meant that visits to the outhouse were easier after dark and the central camp kitchen area was perfect when the may24 weather started misbehaving. I cannot state strongly enough how much these hosts went out of their way to make sure we had the best stay possible. Jill gave us a tour of some additional camp areas (The Hobbit hole is on my bucket list) My wife and I felt extremely safe and welcome during our time here and our pups had a blast for their first time camping. 1 night at Rough Diamond Ranch Alberta

I only needed a place to park and sleep, and this worked out perfectly. Happy to have a toilet there, and it looks like a good place for a bbq/fire pit with a group. There was a bit of miscommunication about arrival, but this was my first time hipcamping so I didn’t really know much anyway. Laura was lovely in sorting it out. Seeing the animals was a bonus, and I’ll definitely stay again if I’m in the area!

4 nights at Elk Island Getaway

We loved grass-covered Site 6 with our large 5th wheel trailer. It’s perched on a hill with nice views and amazing sunsets. Kara and Dan were wonderful hosts — very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.

Weekend Trip to The Mariposa Glamping/Camping

Need better wood for sale scrap wood from building and dry soft wood for $10 a small basket maybe if it was hard wood . Nice quiet spot would go back for sure just recommend bringing wood.
