Visit Rocky Mountain House National Historic Site to learn about Alberta’s heritage as a fur trading hub, as well as its indigenous First Nations and Métis cultures.

Edmonton is the jumping-off point for both Jasper National Park and the province’s vast north, where remote Wood Buffalo National Park extends into the Northwest Territories. But you don’t have to go far to delve into the wild—just outside Edmonton, more than 1,000 bison roam the protected prairies of Elk Island National Park.

Collin’s Wood is a very special place indeed. The land was bought by my grandfather years ago when he moved to Canada from England and wanted to chase his log cabin dream. Our main cabin my family built from trees on the land, entirely by hand. We have photos of the trees being cut and the bark being peeled off. Since then, we’ve made many changes out there, we now have a guest cabin that used to be a Teacheridge (back when teachers would live in a one room building beside the school), eventually it was turned into a cafe and now it sits on our land as a guest cabin. This place is so magical. With a quarter section of land I grew up running through the forest with my friends and learning about what the land has to offer. My parents have spent every spare weekend out there making this paradise into what it is today. All the buildings were created by my family through labour and love. We’ve hosted weddings, and family reunions. We hope you appreciate how special this place is. Come see for yourself!

Quiet, majestic back to nature spot! This is a place to get away from a busy life. With close proximity to Winchell Lake, this land is ideal for fishing, hiking or simply enjoying the breathtaking scenery. We have 4 campsites available for tent or RV/trailer campers. If you're bringing an RV, we have two power outlets and water available. You will be parking on a field and the site requires levelling. Electricity and firewood are both available for purchase (see extras below). Please add this to your reservation at the time of booking. Campfires are permitted, pets are welcome. Potable water, picnic table, and outhouse are all available. We have cows, goats, chickens, horses and dogs and cats on the property that generally love people. :) I have only one dog and typically allow dogs to run off leash. We do have to be careful that it doesn't turn to a dog gang as this happened once and they took down one of my goats. The goats Hon and Chewy are okay but it took months for poor Hon to heal. I also worry about the chickens and the cats so please keep and eye on your dogs! Lots of treed areas for private camping, horseback riding hiking and walking! Bird watching is big around here as we are on a bird migratory path. We are just above Winchell Lake and less than 10 km from Water Valley Golf Course and Saloon. Please recognize that you are visiting a Ranch not a campsite. We are sharing our piece of heaven with you and you are helping to support our animals and their heaven. Chickens are "True" Free Range and hand fed every morning. Eggs are $10 a dozen to pay for their feed. :) Every spring the rain tends to cause ruts and washes out some of the road on the way to the back forty where the meadow is. We gather rocks on the property to fill the ditches but the early part of the year the roads can be bumpy. Please ask the conditions of the road when you book if you have concerns. Thanks!

Learn more about this land: We are a young family just starting out, we have 40 acres within walking distance to the lake with a nice little forest (currently we are working on an easy access through the trees but if you enjoy foraging this might fit perfectly!)  We are very open to helping set up activities or anything you may need. We have grown up in the area and know it very well and hope you enjoy your time! The campsites are fairly private, but still close to all of the amenities that we offer. We have recently added a 10 minute nature walk through the trees, this will include locations to sit and rest, as well as the ability to get some shade while soaking in all sounds and beauty of your surroundings. Lac Ste. Anne is only a 15-minute drive from our property where you can enjoy swimming, hiking, biking, and so much more! Please be mindful we are a farm, our animals are friendly but we ask that you respect the fences. Children are asked to stay on the cut grass unless accompanied by an adult (we have a pond and other various safety hazards).  -Please clean up after yourselves - pack in, pack out! - Campfires are permitted within local regulations - Picnic table provided - Pit toilet available -Electrical and water hookup available -Both wifi and cell reception on the property

Laura was a wonderful host and very knowledgeable equestrian! Her tack and horses were in excellent shape and ready for a safe and memorable ride. Thanks Laura for having us as guests for my sons 11th birthday party with his friends!. The scenery was great and the site for camping was the best we've enjoyed and was a real experience we will never forget! Having Sonny and Cher, Laura's dogs were also a treat and made us feel safe at night knowing their on watch! A real family oriented place to visit and will definitely come back and camp and fish the very nearby Winchell lake ! Thanks Laura will see you soon!

Weekend Trip to Collinswood Retreat

Simply fabulous on every level! This well-equipped treehouse made a quick getaway super easy --that much was essential for us. What pushed this hipcamp above-and-beyond: -the spectacular beauty of the land -the charm of the treehouse and surrounding property with fun surprises all over the place, some decorative, some functional, some humorous, some inspirational -visits with the super friendly horses that free roam the property -the warmth and hospitality of the hosts So much is supplied (bedding, kitchen supplies, lighting) it is easier to list what you do need to bring: your food, personal items (clothing, toiletries), perhaps a swim suit for the sauna, and hotdog sticks (I got a whole set of compact telescoping ones for 10 bucks on Amazon). Hand warmers in the fall. We only had 24 hrs for a getaway. The ease of coming here was key for me to unwind like I needed. Seeing the milky way, visiting with horses, roasting countless marshmallows (and weiners, and pineapple...), making new memories with my kids, and just aimlessly wandering the sprawling grounds was the tonic I needed after a very stressful couple months. Weekend Trip to Avant Gardens

We had such a wonderful stay here over the Labour Day long weekend! It was exactly the kind of peaceful getaway we were looking for. Coming from Calgary, it was so nice to disconnect from the city, slow down, and simply enjoy the quiet and nature around us. Our dogs absolutely loved it too — having the space and freedom to run around off leash made the trip even more enjoyable for all of us. There is no water or electricity, but for us, that was actually part of the experience. It really helped us unplug and recharge, and we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay comfortably. Eugene and Kerry were wonderful hosts. They gave us a tour of their farm, which we really enjoyed, and even gifted us a small jar of honey produced right there on the farm — such a thoughtful and lovely touch! Everything was exactly what we had hoped for: peaceful, private, relaxing, and away from the noise of the city. We left feeling refreshed, and our dogs definitely enjoyed their little countryside adventure too. We would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking to get away from the city, spend some quiet time in nature, and truly recharge. We would happily stay here again!

The land was really lovely, there's a nice windbreak of trees to set up against. It was really nice waking up to the sound of mourning doves and swallows, and the bats were fun to watch at night! Highly recommend the ranch tour, it's a great facility, and all the animals are incredibly friendly! Very pleased with our experience.

Had a fantastic time with the family staying here. Very great location, allowing us to quickly restock and also for trips to Waterton & various provincial parks. The site was very private and quiet, which is perfect for our anxious dog who isn’t a happy camper at public campgrounds. Site also had a campfire with a grill, making cooking over the fire very easy. Very dark at night, so ensure you have backup flashlights, etc. Bortle under 4 made it great for stargazing, able to see Milky Way with the naked eye. Jill was a great host - communicated well, guided to site, offered recommendations, and even reached out regarding the lunar eclipse. Thank you!

A fantastic weekend get away, highly recommend it for a family. I went with my adult daughter we both have high stress jobs, extremely peaceful, caring hosts, great recharge we both felt we were gone for more then 3 days! Very visible things for children to entertain themselves such as swingset, bikes and such, things to explore. I told my daughter a scavenger hunt or can you find the squirrel on the swing would entertain youngs ones ....escape the screens, beautiful sunset! Farm fresh eggs! Free firewood recommend leaving a "tip" for chopping the wood, a kind gesture to the host.

This was a super cute place to stay! I really appreciated the comfy feel of the yurt with it's decor was and how private my site felt felt! The cows on the property were also really sweet and just fun company to have around! I partially chose this site because I wanted darker skies to view stars and a possible Aurora and wasn't disappointed, I got a really lovely show on my first nighy! Also do many cool mushrooms to look!! One thing I didn't quite know before coming (but might have just missed reading) was that there's an active honey bee farm on site, so there were a lot of bees around which were super adorable, but as someone who gets a little nervous around them was something I wasn't super prepared for. Still, I had a really nice time!
