Campers must have their own amenities if staying at the campground, as there is no shower or toilet facilities. Nearest toilet and dump station is 1km away in the Maydena township. There are only basic supplies to be had at the post office, open Mon to Fri, so get all major supplies before arrival. There is a cafe and restaurant option as well. We are pet friendly however all pets must be kept under control to keep the wildlife safe. Campfires are permitted in our allocated fireplace except on days of total fire ban. Bring your own firewood or prebook a wheelbarrow full. Come and relax after your day of adventuring and enjoy the tranquillity of this ideal location.

The property is a 5 minute walk into the Historic town of Franklin, where there are are pubs and restaurants. We have 2 flat sites and 3 slight gradient sites, all are far apart. All sites accessible by 2wd depending on weather. There are no facilities, so the site is suitable for self contained campers only, There is dump for toilet water. The site also has drinking water water available free. Due to our children and our Alpaca on site pets must be kept on a leash. Visiting children are welcome to help our kids feed Alpaca, just ask. The property has an orchard of cherry plums, apples, pears, lemons and apricots. There are great walks and sites to see in the local area. It's possible to see Aurora from your campsite, but not guaranteed.

Very private valley nestled between two mountainous sandstone ranges. 3.5 kilometers from Colebrook, via Yarlington road. The property in total size is 37 hectares half of which is gently undulating grassland slopes. These slopes lead to the banks of the beautiful Iles Creek which runs nearly all year round. The western range across the creek includes numerous caves within comfortable walking distance. The highest cave provides magnificent views to the East coast. Camping options include non-designated sites either side of the creek under the huge black-wood trees, restricted to 4-wheel drive vehicles during winter and spring months, with a secluded site with year-round access for all vehicles. At the entrance sits the first of the designated sites, the rest are accessed via the meandering road down 300 or so meters to the camping ground entrance for the other two sites. The last 500-700 meters of Yarlington road leading to the entrance is quite steep. Some two wheel drive vehicles towing large vans have found this challenging, while others haven't. The two main camping areas now have a 'bush loo' in each site. if you wish to use these please use your own paper. Also, now for camper convenience the whole area has access to the campers' lounge and resource shelter. It contains First Aid and snake bite first aid kits. Water is available here. Aug 2024: the site now has a flat patch for campers visiting 🏕️ The plot is nearly 3 acres and is earmarked conservation land and surrounded by neighbouring conservation land. This is your perfect lunawuni/Bruny Island escape! It is tucked away from the no-through gravel road and surrounded by Australian bush and wildlife with filtered water views of D'Entrecasteaux Channel and 100 m from the beach. It's a tranquil heaven yet so close to all the famous Bruny sites and must dos: Bruny oysters, beer and cheese (why not bring some to the campsite to enjoy?) The Neck, Truganini Lookout + penguins! Cape Queen Elizabeth Track and other hiking trails Adventure Bay and *white wallabies (*we give you a map on where to go to find the white wallabies!!) South Bruny, and the Light house When you book our site, you have it all to yourself! Except for sharing it with the wildlife, of course. As the name suggests, there is a family of quolls living on the land and you are very likely to see them! Once dusk arrives and the stars start lighting up the sky, the quolls usually come out to say hi before they start their night activities. Joining the quolls, are the potoroos who are not afraid to come up close and sniff your feet in curiosity. If you are yet to see a quoll and a potoroo in the wild, this is your campsite! Other wildlife includes the endangered Forty Spotted Pardalote and critically endangered Swift Parrots. To access the beach, simply walk through the property to the end of the plot and follow the path. There is an echidna living near the road so keep an eye out for her. The campsite is a perfect spot to see wildlife, and birds, and for photography. On the campsite is a large outdoor kitchen with two sinks. Wait... is there a bathtub? Yes! The bathtub is great for a bush shower (byo solar shower) as the taps are not connected. You must bring your own toilet. Rainwater is available too, we have two tanks! Campfires are allowed but you cannot collect firewood on the property. Please bring your own firewood or add it at the time of booking and we will provide you with firewood for your stay. The land is a conservation area and quolls are known to live in up to 5 nests. They live under the logs and it is an important habitat for the species. We love the quolls and know you will too so please do not disturb their homes. The site is excellent for stargazing once nightfall arrives. Simply BYO a hammock (we have prepared the setup!) and lie down to watch the stars with a glass of red or a hot chocolate. We recommend campervans for the site and it's only suited to self-contained campers leaving no trace behind. Available on-site and free to use are also a director's chair and a table. The kitchen is also equipped with a double sink, dish rack, two buckets, BBQ tools, cutlery, and a dustpan. There is also a cleaning kit with biodegradable spray, hand sanitizer, and soap. There are also a set of caravan/van leveling ramps and chocks for you to freely use. The site is perfect for those wishing to find privacy amongst an otherwise busy Island. The south arm peninsula itself has many great walks and beautiful beaches. It is a great spot to base yourself to explore Hobart and local attractions. e.g Port Arthur 90 minutes. Amazing site. It is in front of the hosts house but felt so private, we almost didn’t feel compelled to leave to explore the island with our own beach and so much wildlife visiting. The most frequent visitors were two wallabies and the biggest treat was seeing a stingray couple (and a seal) while paddle boarding.

Weekend Trip to Russell Falls Holiday Cottages

Great location with respect to being at the entrance to Mt Field NP. I was up early, so wandered into Russell Falls with a cup of tea, and didn’t see a soul! Definitely on the expensive side, but taking location into account, fair enough. Bathroom ammenities very spacious, and considering how busy the campsite was over the long weekend, they did a good job keeping them clean. As a tent camper, it was great having the ‘laundry’ set up for washing up, meaning I didn’t have to book water. Food van looked good value, but didn’t get a chance to try it out.

Weekend Trip to Misty mountain homestead

We had a very relaxing long weekend at Grant’s place. The location is great - peaceful, close to everything and beautiful views. There’s plenty of space for people to spread out. Grant is the perfect host - relaxed, friendly, kind and super helpful. As an added bonus we purchased the produce pack with plenty of delicious foods from Grant’s garden. Would highly recommend and definitely on the list to return one day. Thanks Grant!

One of the best places I’ve stayed at in Tasmania so far,👍🏻. Well priced, coffee cart, a toilet /shower facilities just great. Nice open lawn area for games, very large site areas on the river. Can’t fault it.

The field was extensive, with plenty of options of flat areas to park up on. There were lovely rural views to the wooded hills to one side and gentle farmland all around. It was quiet and we felt very safe. Thank you for the opportunity!

This place is completely flat and private, as if you have it all to yourself. Surrounded by nature, it’s the kind of spot where you can switch off and slow down. At dusk and in the early morning, paddemelons are everywhere. Unfortunately, we weren’t lucky enough to spot any platypus.

Maree and Andrew both came to see us as we settled in, and were really welcoming. Maree has a book with local walks and restaurant menus. Their new gravel pad is flat and there are benches, a table with an umbrella, and a hammock. They even found us a replacement bolt for one we were missing!

Luke was a great host. Great place to stay. Based ourselves at Luke’s place while we visited Hobart, Richmond, Port Arthur and surrounding areas. Large level grassy paddock, lots of space for our 19’ caravan and vehicle to set up. Very quiet and private. Plus thanks kids for the yummy eggs. Enjoyed our stay.

I absolutely loved our four nights here. The views are maybe even nicer than captured, there is heaps of space between sites. Richmond town is a few minutes drive so if you dont have cooking gear, no worries, all the amenities are close by, theres a toilet onsite and it is super peaceful.

Darren, a kind and welcoming host, provided excellent recommendations for activities, as well as help with the best set up for our van. The site was easy to get to, some lovely shade, with water near by, and despite being close to the road, it felt private and serene. Daily eagle sightings and the aurora australis graced the night sky for a few nights as well.

Mt Fields Always Worth a Stop

Well maintained trails through the magical forest by the river of huge tree ferns, giant gum trees, waterfalls and calling birds. (We have seen pademelons on the trail other times, but none on this visit.) Really worth the time to get there and so convenient to Hobart. A worthwhile stop even if you are not able to camp on site.

Tarn Shelf Loop

Tarn Shelf Loop, 16km (without detours) 5.5 hours for a slow walker. Spectacular! Also wandered into Russell Falls at 7am from nearby campsite. Gloriously peaceful!

Stunning waterfalls and rainforest

I visited Mt Field National Park when I was young and was so worried it wouldn’t be the same, but the National Park / Russell Falls were pristine, lush and we thoroughly loved the walks and then going back at night to see the glow worms.

Amazing rainforest!

Beautiful national park with an amazing rainforest, waterfalls, pademelons, black cockatoos, and other fauna. Very accessible, we did all the treks with a toddler. Highly recommended.

The waterfall walk was well worth it. Do yourself a favour and drive up to the top of the mountain for a look. We actually got to play in the snow up there
