Mountain River is a rural valley under the kunanyi/Wellington Range, in the Huon Valley, just half an hour from Hobart. Mountain River itself is a small river flowing from the back of kunanyi and joining the Huon River near Huonville. Campsites are located on the riverbank, near the home or further afield. Caravans and Motorhomes cannot be accommodated. This is a great base for exploring the entire Huon area, from the nearby mountains to the Hartz Mountains, Hastings Caves, the Tahune AirWalk, and even the end of the road in Australia at Cockle Creek. All of these are possible as day trips.

This site is across a small gravel bridge onto a grassy riverbank area near tree ferns and a very healthy specimen of NSW's famous Wollemi Pine - Australia's living fossil. Bush tracks lead off into a mixed forest. This site has a bush toilet so is suitable for car campers and small camper vans that are not self-contained.

Flat lawn on the river bank between the veggie garden and some sheds. There are actually two spaces very close together that would be ideal for two families travelling together. There is room for games on a level lawn. Access to power and water if required. There is access to a composting toilet in a shed nearby. There is a shallow swimming hole right here and two deep ones 100 and 400m away.... for those brave enough to swim in cold mountain water.

Great spot

Wollemi
This place is great. Peaceful, right on the river. Nell is very welcoming. Nice and grassy area to set up a tent and just relax. Highly recommend.
