Great spot to camp to avoid crowds in halls gap but still be close enough to town to drive in whenever you want. Great facilities, lots of room, an abundance of fire wood! Would stay here again!

Scout Camp Bunk House #1
Cheap and chearful camping
There's nothing fancy about this camp, but it has everything you could want in a cheap site.... fresh water, hot showers, toilets, a laundry, kitchen (with fridge), BBQ and so on. While not all sites are powered sites, we spotted 5 power poles scattered around, and each is capable of supporting 3 nearby campsites each.
Locatied right on the fringe of the Grampians, we found it great for quick drives to the MacKenzie Falls and the like.
The road in is a bit rough, with rocks near the start and a bit rutted. It would only be of concern though to a more fragile vehicle/low profile tyres, but any 4WD/SUV and many average sedans would traverse it no worries, even if just a bit slower.

Fantastic camping
We loved our stay at the scout camp. Not too many other visitors which makes for a lovely quiet camp spot over the peak periods.
Plenty of wildlife around, including goanna’s and lots of shady spots to set up for either powered or non powered.
Shower and toilet facilities were great to have in remote setting. The showers have plenty of pressure and great hot water on demand.
Although we did not plan on using power, the powered sites were a positive as the temperature reached 38 on one day and it was nice to jump in my fathers air conditioned caravan.
Large camp kitchen with powered fridges, hot water and drinking water available if needed.
Great base for the surrounding area as everything you may need is within 1hr drive.
We will definitely be staying again and letting friends/family know about this location.

Great spot would come again
Great place - would recommend to anyone. A large group of us slept in tents outside on the first week of January 2023 and were pleasantly surprised to discover it was only us and two other groups there! So quiet. I’ve been to other campsites that were packed but not here. About 40 minute drive to Halls Gap with heaps of hiking tracks and lookouts in between. Heaps of space to spread out, hot showers and flushing toilets. Kangaroos jumping around and kookaburras singing, a true bush camp experience. Only two downsides were a) quite rocky driveway so drive slow and b) no place to dispose of rubbish - you must take it all with you.

Gorgeous campground, loads of space and very clean. Great having access to fridges in the summer heat! Dorms were what you'd expect, comfy enough. Great showers but could do with a few more toilets for a campground this size! The road to get in is pretty hectic - easy to find, but thankful I have a 4WD.
Definitely not near a lake, and the seasonal creek is debatable, but Mackenzie river walk and Fish Falls are only a very short drive away, and it's 30minutes from Hollow Mountain and Mount Zero so we were still happy with the location. Would definitely stay here again whenever there's a big group going up!

Stayed here for 4 nights over new years was a lovely place to stay. Lots of amenities and close to plenty of walks and a few places to swim. Heaps of space and firewood and plenty of wildlife.

Scout Camp - Powered & Unpowered
I really enjoyed staying at Cooinda Scout Camp over New Years. I stayed for 5 nights and there was lots to see and do in the local area, especially if you’re into walks/hikes. The camp is large enough to accomodate quite a few groups without being packed in close together. The facilities came in handy - hot showers, flushing toilets, and a full kitchen to use if you require. There’s unlimited amounts of firewood for collecting from the dead fallen trees in the area - just bring a chainsaw or axe. The ground is also quite flat, so it was easy find places to pitch a tent or park a caravan. I’m sure we will be returning again.

I would definitely recommend this site and would certainly go back.
The not so good:
Road leading to the camp is particularly terrible at the start.
Having no rubbish bins ki d of sucks.....but I guess this is a trend and I get the thinking behind it.
Please cut firewood into smaller pieces (it is free which is amazing)
The good:
Kitchen facilities were great.
Shower facilities were super.
Location is amazing, you can walk to Mackenzie falls, via Fish Falls!! (about 8km to Mac, less to Fish)
Fellow campers were considerate, tidy and approachable.

We loved camping at Cooinda! The land around the camp was so big and expansive and was a good point to set off and drive to walks. They had literally everything we needed for a large group of 18 over the New Years period. Showers, big kitchen (with everything we needed!), tables and chairs, they even said we could take some of the big pieces of campfire wood that they had cut. However, there is so much wood around the site anyway. The hosts were really responsive to calls and messages and were very relaxed and accommodating. Thanks so much for letting us stay. We really appreciated everything ❤️

We enjoyed our stay. The facilities were good and clean, lots of firewood but you'll need to remember bring an axe. The entrance road was rough, for a low slung small hatch in our group, but a higher riding standard SUV or similar would be fine.

The site was perfect. Amenities were a blessing. Perfect place to explore the Grampiens and then retreat from the hussle for the night. The Mountainside lit up for us on one evening under the light of the sunset. Spectacular place on a budget. We enjoyed our stay thanks Aaron for providing a great retreat

The views are breathtaking. Kitchen is fully equipped and showers are awesome. Two lovely fireplaces in side when it gets a bit chilly. Plenty of space both indoors & outdoors.

Plenty of open space to setup at the scout camp. Fire pits are available to borrow and you can collect your own wood. Toilet facilities and hot showers. The driveway can be a little bumpy so just take it slow. Great place to get away and camp.

The property is fantastic. Plenty of space.
The bunkhouse was very basic as expected. Think of it like a step up from camping. Great for a group of friends. The bunkhouse only had a single powerpoint with an extension cord so bring a powerboard if you need to charge multiple items (or use the fantastic commerical grade kitchen). The shower water pressure was amazing (and hot!).
Plenty of firewood on the grounds and firepits to use.
The road in is a dirt road which is well maintained. Only a few small potholes and small scattered rocks. Saw another review elsewhere about it being difficult to get into - don't know what they were on about.

We had a great time at the camp. The shower s were great. Plenty of hot water and excellent water pressure.
We were allowed to use the kitchen and hall on some of the nights. Especially useful as we had run out of our bottle gas on the last night. Quinn and his friends were helpful when we had questions.

we were glad we made it to the camp in the end, in the dark. A clear map regarding the last turn into the camp and also the approximate location to Zumstein Picnic ground would be very much appreciated. We had our eye out for the number 3075 on the road but did not see any. The direction was not clear and there was no sign saying " scout camp" at all. May be a picture of the turn would be helpful too.

Basic facilities, but clean. It was great to be able to have a shower and use the toilets. We didn't need to use the kitchen, but many people did, and it is greatly equipped.
