Welcome to Marron Bush Escape, located in Gosse, in the Western River area (western end, near Flinders Chase National Park) of beautiful Kangaroo Island! This is a beautiful, remote, rural 250 acre private property, it is home to a number of sheep, features dams that have Marron and boasts the best that nature has to offer. Rest assured, you will not see any neighbours on this property; just picturesque landscapes everywhere you look! It is approximately a 1.5 hour drive from Penneshaw, where you get off the ferry. We offer powered and unpowered camp sites, as well as a bush, cabin. Camp fires (small) are allowed when fire restrictions allow. There is a fire pit that can be used when there is no fire ban, with barbecue plate and camp ovens for old-style bush cooking or cooking up your fresh organic Kangaroo Island Marron. There is a drop toilet at the back and external lights and an external kitchen sink with hot and cold water. There is one drop dunny and limited rain water (you are welcome to bring your own drinking water if you need extra). For your convenience, there are recycling and rubbish bins at corner of Snug and Colman’s Rd for all waste disposal. On half of our property we have sheep and lambs in the paddocks. Bring your camera, and you just might be lucky enough to see little lambs playing and even being born. We may also be shearing and invite you to see how this is done. The other half of the property is untouched natural scrub with grass and trees 12 foot tall. There are koalas, eagles, kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas and lots of other native animals and a creek with small waterfalls. In winter time the ground can be boggy, so a 4WD is desirable and will allow you to explore further. From the cabin, make your way down past the dams and go through the shiny gate at the bottom of the hill (please close the gate behind you). Here, you'll discover 125 acres of untouched Kangaroo Island wilderness with walking trails to explore. Keep an eye out for koalas, kangaroos, wedge-tail eagles, wallabies, large grass trees etc We also have two small lakes that you can have a picnic by or drop some Marron nets in for a fresh feed. There are weighing scales provided at the shed so you can pay for them. This is on an honesty system- so please do the right thing, as we have already been burnt from the fires. You must contact me if you wish to fish for marron prior to catching any. There are no shops or restaurants close by (stock up before arriving!) and you will need to travel down dirt roads but you will really have the opportunity to get off the grid, get back to nature and make memories in the stunning, untouched, Kangaroo Island wilderness! Stay in our hilltop Cabin, and enjoy our beautiful 250 acre property locate in the Western River area on Kangaroo Island! The surroundings are five star, with distant sea views however, the cabin is a basic bush cabin and self-serve - it's part of the charm! It may need a quick sweep out because before use as sometimes it can get dusty. We don't provide cleaning, so we ask that you leave it as, or better, than you found it. There is a cupboard with basic kitchen essentials, help yourself, take some, leave some, etc.  The base rate is $90 for two people, and then extra guests are only $15 per night. The cabin is fully insulated, and there is a combustion fire that once it gets going, is really toasty and warm.  There are two fridge freezers, a three burner gas stove with pots and pans, a toaster, kettle, microwave and breadmaker... for that beautiful fresh bread smell in the morning! There is a flatscreen digital TV with most channels and a UHF radio. In the shed, there are 240 power lights and also a 12 V system.  In terms of bedding, there are two bunk beds with a double on the bottom and singles on top. One can convert into a lounge. There are also two pull-out camp stretches that you can roll your swags out on. You will need to bring your own linen and blankets.   There is a sink and running hot and cold water. At the rear of the cabin, there is a laundry/ shower room with a washing machine and hot shower.  There is a fire pit outside that can be used when there is no fire ban, with barbecue plate and camp ovens for old-style bush cooking or cooking up your fresh organic Kangaroo Island Marron.  There is a drop toilet at the back and external lights and an external kitchen sink with hot and cold water.  From the cabin, make your way down past the dams and go through the shiny gate at the bottom of the hill (please close the gate behind you). A wonderful experience. We have two young boys who LOVED catching Marron in the dams each night, and they had so much space to play. Gorgeous waking up with the sheep and wallabies each morning. Sean provided excellent communication to ensure we had a great stay.

Only got to spend one night here, but overall we had a great time. The hosts are very friendly and helpful, the site itself is spacious. However, there are a lot of sheep poo in the unpowered campground area, and a dead sheep a few metres away from the gate, attracting quite a bit of flies. Weather was great when we camped there, got to see an amazing sunset and the farm offered a great open view to a full sky of stars. Ps would be nice if there are some picnic tables.

Overall we loved our stay. The cabin was on a beautiful property, with both grass and bush. There were a few things that weren't as we expected from the description, including being close to and sharing facilities with other campers, and a few things that would benefit from some TLC.

Amazing space to stay, Sean and Kirsty are very accommodating hosts, dont hesitate to ask questions as they are very responsive with detailed instructions and recommendations. We stayed in the cabin, even though rural area with sheep running around, however toilet, shower is available and space is clean with enough appliances for you use. Thank you guys, we will be back!!

Great spot to visit the North side of Kangaroo Island. Short drives to Snelling beach and Stokes bay. We even scooped some marron from the dam!

Amazing Campground and the fact that you’re able to catch marrons makes it so much fun! Got some really good ones! Sean and Kirsty is so welcoming and definitely doesn’t mind helping. They respond fast too!

Amazing camping area, nice and green, lots of farm animals near your floor step (kangaroos, wallabies, sheep and lambs). And of course catching them amazing Marron, which is so much fun for the kids and they are so delicious!! Thankyou so much Sean and Kirsty for sharing your wonderful farm with our family

This place is amazing, plenty of marron and great company. We only stayed 1 night but wished we stayed longer! Sean could have been anymore of a better host. Remember this is a bush camp not the 4seasons hotel. It's has amenities a place to wash your clothes what more could you ask for 🥰 Will definitely be back thanks again Sean. 🤙

Loved staying at the Marron Camp! Was great to have the space to camp with our extended family over Easter without the crowds at the general campgrounds. My 2 year old daughter loved watching the sheep eat grass and rest under the trees. Having a shower felt like luxury while camping!

Sean was an amazing host. He came to check on us as the weather started to worsen. He offered an upgrade because the weather condition turned out really bad later night!! He was so helpful and also his camping site is really good.

Overall it was a good experience, as the place has very nice views, and is good value. However, the instructions on how to get to the unpowered sites could have been better and also more clarity to those staying in the cabin so they knew that it was not only the toilet that could be shared would have helped avoid some tension. Unfortunately the sites had some toilet paper in the floor from previous campers.

Myself and my two Jack Russell's stayed for five nights in an unpowered site. The property was brilliant, stunning and perfectly remote. Drop toilet was clean and there was a shower. I had the best time, didn't see another soul for the whole trip. Camping was in the same paddock as the sheep and there's also a natural part of the property which is regenerating beautiful post 2020 fires. I can't fault the property at all and Sean was super helpful when I had some questions. Highly recommend if you like natural spaces and peace and quiet ❤️

Ned Kelly at the gate very cool but it is in front of Green John Deere plastic toy tractor 🚜 that we were told to look for in the long grass ( some information needs updating!). Property was quiet and peaceful just like it says but watch out for all the sheep poo 💩 . Would recommend it is a good base to explore that side of island.

Powered Site near some big trees. We loved the dam and fishing. :) It is remote so make sure you stock up before you go.

Plenty of room to park up and enjoy yourself. We loved the dam and cooling off on a hot day. We also used their nets and bait to catch marron ourselves!! This was a first for us. Sean was very helpful in giving us instructions and hoping us rookies. It was a good farm experience for the kids.

Spent 5 nights here, it was amazingly peaceful. Breathtaking views. The bird life is plentiful during the day from Crimson Rosella’s, black cockatoos, wedge-tail eagles to the tiny scarlet robin and blue wren’s complete with their family. At night this spot comes alive, while the sheep sleep the wallabies graze, so nice to see. The many dams on the property are super awesome at night, watching the healthy marron on the waters edge, females with an abundance of eggs, frogs and tadpoles enjoying the nocturnal time. Nature walks during the day down to the creek and causeway seeing marron by a cute little waterfall was another highlight. The landscape is pretty special to be honest observing the charred remains of the tragic fires watching it rejuvenate and become a beautiful place once again. Thank you to the hosts Sean and Kirsty for having us, they were always available by phone when needed and checked in on us by phone to make sure things were sweet. We had a wonderful camping experience here and would sincerely recommend this property for the campers who want serenity and chill feel. So nice to have a pet friendly destination as well, my 14 yr dog was like a pup again

Property is large and within ten minutes of western river cove (beautiful spot). We only wanted to camp but wife hates tents. This property has a shed with a fireplace to keep you warm. Hadn't been used in a while and only took a few minutes to air out and was more than we needed. We used all our own camping equipment (used their fridge). If you don't take cooking equipment / cuttlery it wouldn't matter as the property has it all. Property is not boggy. Has a washing machine. Has electricity and water. Host is quick to respond, helpful when setting up gas-water. If you had kids it is a good property for them to play. which provided warm shelter and

The place is amazing, if you love remote camping and you have an RV, this place is perfect to try. Its just a bit hard to find the place, just need more precise directions.

We enjoyed our stay. Easy to find (green tractor at gate) and 30 mins from all Western KI major attractions. It has amenities - power, shower etc. if you’re prepared to look and work it out. Private. Nobody around for miles.
