Mt Stirling Farm Off-Grid

Hipcamp seems to think I want to leave a “low" rating, when I have simply checked the YES tab, indicating I would recommend to others. That’s a fault in the Hipcamp system and they should fix it. I enjoyed my solo nights at Mt Stirling. I visited Girraween, Tenterfield, Thunderbolts Hideout, wineries, the art gallery, ate at the RSL, took some good bird pictures and generally had a great time. I was somewhat disappointed by the empty dam and the brown paddock, but those are things beyond the control of hosts so no point being too bothered by them. I guess there is not really any way for campers to be told that things don’t look like the photos on the website because then they wouldn’t book. I look forward to returning in warmer weather and after there has been a lot more rain. I enjoyed the privacy and the abundant firewood. Thanks.

The camp site has good views of the bushland and has little road noise. Being winter, the dam is only about half full, however there were quite a bit of bird life around. It is quite close to several wineries and makes a good jump off point for exploration of the district.

Ben's directions are perfect, trust Ben not your GPS! It was a beautiful spot we had it to ourselves. Nice and close to town. A perfect base for day trips, or just staying put and relaxing. We will be back.

Price was very low but no water in the dam and it's just a small field that you share when fully booked with four other campers and so no real privacy. I would use it again as an overnight but not five days to explore the region. Never saw the host once so can't comment on service, and it's a short drive to Girraween for the walks.

Mt Sterling camping was fantastic. Large open spaces. Easy access from the road which was in good condition and not much traffic. Lovely views. Ben was a very aminable host and we would highly recommend this camp. We will come here again for sure.Thanks Ben. Joe and Kevin.

Overall we had a great stay here. On arrival we had a few issues with other campers but Ben was very quick to sort. Communication is A1. There are 5 sites allocated .. I wouldn’t have liked if all 5 sites were occupied- would feel a little squashed in.. 3 sites were occupied when we were here and that was perfect (1,2,5). Great plus was the location and proximity to Girraween NP and Stanthorpe and surrounding areas. Able to collect firewood from the property was great! However, it would be a fair walk from our site to the dam drum. We do a lot of campfire cooking.. so we used our compact fire pit with common sense of course! :) Would recommend to stay here.. sites 5 and 1 are probs best for dam and farm views. Site 2 for huge granite rock/ bush/ dam views Thank you heaps Ben

Lovely well maintained property with lovely views out to Mt Stirling. Dam was a little low due to weather which just makes us more determined to come back again. Very peaceful. So close to Girraween, wineries, coffee shops & more. We stayed at camp 1 which was great

Ben was a great Host and helped us locate the property. The place was so central to all Stanthorpe and surrounding towns. Lots of space to set up and fire pits are a great touch.

We loved our time at Ben’s farm. A perfect peaceful stopover close to the highway. We had the place to ourselves and had a fire by the dam with Mt Stirling as our backdrop and the biggest starry sky we’ve had on our travels!!

Picturesque and Peaceful Property

Lovely views over Mt Sterling… a quiet and peaceful spot but still close enough to nearby attractions ie 5min drive to Jamworks, 5min drive to Jester Hill Cellar Door, and just ten minutes from all the amenities provided in Stanthorpe… don’t miss Saturday morning farmers market at the old railway precinct! We enjoyed a stroll around the property a couple of times. The owners are very friendly and generously dropped us in some lovely fresh capsicums from their farm which we charred over the fire and packed in garlic, olive oil and balsamic… delicious! Stargazing at night was incredible. Highly recommend this beautiful spot.

What a peaceful spot to camp. We stayed here for a few days from 6/3/26 and were the only ones here. It was nice to park near the dam and let our 2 dogs have safe leash free playing. Hipcamp booking $22 p/n is a great price. Thanks Ben for supplying a safe place on 10 minutes from town will definitely be back in the future. ☺️😁🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺

We stayed 6 nights and thoroughly enjoyed our stay here over Christmas 2025. The space is big enough to fit 5 vans comfortably but we were the only ones there for our entire stay. It was quiet during the day and night with minimal traffic along the road. It's completely safe with the padlock on the gate locked at all times. We left our van there most days while we explored Stanthorpe. Being between Stanthorpe and Ballandeane it was the perfect location for us. Nights were beautiful, quiet, lots of stars, not much wind and cool enough to put an extra layer on. We swam almost everyday in the dam. I'd recommend a lilo to help getting over some rocks and reeds etc. Once in the middle of the dam, it's cool, fresh, very deep and utterly divine! Lots of birds to watch and being surrounded by trees made it feel very private. There's a dump point in Stanthorpe and we filled up a 20L water can to keep us topped up for our stay. There are various taps around town. We will definitely return to this hipcamp. Stanthorpe and surrounds were absolutely magnificent. We're not drinkers so we mostly visited food places and a couple of wineries for lunch. So much to do in the area, 6 days wasn't long enough!

I had the place to myself which was great. I don't think I would have enjoyed it as much if there were other campers there. It would be a great spot for groups travelling together. There is plenty of room, so not squashed in together. It just wouldn't be my type of thing if others were there (personal choice). I also think it is a little on the dear side with no facilities at all.

Great spot, lovely dam and fireplaces to keep warm. Lots of room and only five camps so nice and quiet. Able to adventure around the farm, Ben is very welcoming. A nod to the local brewery as well, just down the road, worth a visit.

We had the place to ourselves with 5 vans and fitting in so easily with it being the perfect home away from home for the long weekend. Ben's a top bloke, so easy to talk to, great communication, easy directions to follow to get there and we loved the gate lock system. There was plenty of firewood around for us to use, plus the place was clean and tidy. We used it as our base to do some walks at Girraween National Park which was easy to get to from the camp, plus a fair bit of R and R around the fire. Thanks for having us and letting us pick some end of season capsicums

Serene stay by the dam

We brought our caravan here over the Easter long weekend and absolutely loved it. Even though it was fully booked, it was still so peaceful and quiet. There are beautiful spots to sit by the fire near the dam, and at night the sky was just lit up with stars, absolutely magical. It's also in a really handy location, close to everything you'd want to explore in the area. Would highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for a relaxing, nature-filled stay.

This place doesn’t disappoint. Easy access and central to all wineries within the district. Nice well maintained area and far enough away from other campers if you’re there for the piece and quiet and serenity. Beautiful sunsets over Mt Serling. Dam was low but still clean and swimmable. Will be back sometime for sure.

Pleasant camping area. Stayed at site 2 (best size and shade of the four) - whole area is an open paddock with sites around the edge but plenty of room. Is located between Stanthorpe and Ballendeen. Good base for exploring the local area where there is lots to see and do.

Really lovely space for 5 vans. Must be self sufficient and take everything with you. Would stay here again if staying in Stanthorpe. Ben was very prompt with messages. Highly recommend.
