57km from Savage River National Park · 1 site · Tent, RV · Gunns Plains, TAS
Rivers Edge is 24 acres of forest on the banks of the Leven River in Gunns Plains, Tasmania. We are in our own little valley surrounded by tall forests. Preston Creek flows all year through our property and meets the large Leven River where your campsite is situated. Perfect for trout fishing, platypus watching, bird watching or catching the sun setting through the trees on the river bend. There are even the endangered black fresh water crayfish. The site is large enough for up to 5-6 caravans for large bookings, and we only take one booking at a time, so its exclusively yours. We are only 20km to the nearest town, Ulverstone which as everything you need. The road is close by the campsite with easy access to find the property. No toilet facilities at the site. Sat TV is good and limited mobile reception. Telstra works best we've found. River access over a rocky, uneven embankment as it's a natural, untouched environment, just how we and the native animals like it. Campfires ONLY PERMITTED when fire restrictions aren't in place. You absolutely must make sure your campfire is fully extinguished before you leave. Please check "My Trips" (in your profile) for directions once confirmed. Look for the 'Rivers Edge' sign on the entrance gate, then you know youve got the right site and not the neigbours property (which is along side mine on the river) Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be kept with you at all times, no roaming dogs as the road is close by. We love the peace and serenity here so please no unruly behaviour or parties.

Camp out on our 25-acre farm and animal sanctuary in the fertile valley of Preolenna, in Tassie's lovely north-west. Here, we grow sunflowers, potatos and other vegetables. We enjoy welcoming guests to camp or to stay in one of our vacation rentals on the property. And guests love staying here! They particularly enjoy the meandering bush walks that lead to lakes and hidden waterfalls. Campers have access to power and excellent sweet and soft well water, as well as toilet facilities. Access for all types of vehicles is good, with plenty of space to turn around. This is a farm animal sanctuary so guests are asked to respect animals by not cooking them here. We appreciate your respect in this regard. Japa Hill makes for a safe base to explore the region, with Boat Harbour just 30 minutes drive away and Cradle Mountain two hours away. The Spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal is just 74 minutes drive away.

Wobbly Gate Estate

17. Wobbly Gate Estate

36km from Savage River National Park · 8 sites · Lodging · Yolla, TAS
Welcome to Wobbly Gate Estate! This is glamping with a side of real camping in the Tasmanian bush. Goats and sheep will stroll around and you have over 20 acres all to yourself to explore. We're located up a gravel road on the northwest coast, you won't find any other tourists here. Soak in the woodfired tub, under the blackwood tree. Cosy up to the wood fire, roasting marshmallows in your star Gazer yurt. A comfy queen bed and a backyard of adventure, it's a Tasmanian version of luxury camping. Our Yurt location is known as The Top Paddock - A Little Inside Information: Well in my opinion (and a few others) I am Living The Dream! I started living here permanently seven years ago, most of the property's out dwellings and the Cabin is built from recycled, reclaimed materials or been handed down. I am fully off the grid and in the process of trying to become self-sufficient. The water is pumped from a springfed dam and mostly gravity-ed. It's a little like McDonald's Farm, an array of birds and animals. There's an orchard, hothouse and a Raspberry patch which may be my favourite spot when they're fruiting. It really is an amazing lifestyle, peaceful, relaxing and rewarding. You should come see for yourself 😉

The best camping in Savage River National Park, TAS guide

Overview

About

Immerse yourself in the untamed beauty of Savage River National Park, a haven of temperate rainforest and a sanctuary for primitive flora and fauna. Venture into this remote landscape, where the absence of roads and facilities preserves its wild character. Although there are no campgrounds within the park, the surrounding reserves offer a glimpse into the unique ecosystems of this pristine wilderness.

When to go

The best time to visit Savage River National Park is during the milder months of summer and autumn, when the weather is more conducive to exploring the rugged terrain. Winter and spring can be challenging due to harsh conditions, making access difficult and potentially hazardous.

Know before you go

  • Ensure you have a valid parks pass before entering the national park.
  • Prepare for a true wilderness experience; there are no visitor facilities within the park.
  • Check for any alerts or safety information prior to your visit, including bushfire and biosecurity warnings.
  • Respect the Aboriginal heritage of the area and all cultural sites.
  • Access to the park is limited; consider a 4WD vehicle for nearby reserves and drive cautiously to protect native wildlife.
