Russell Falls Cottages at the entrance to Mt Field National Park offer self-contained, self-catering accommodation suitable for couples and families. Four spacious cottages – each set a comfortable distance apart on a beautiful piece of paradise . Also offering six Riverside fully insulated warm Camping Pods with comfortably made beds with electric blankets. Camping sites also available. The property is surrounded by the Tyenna River and has an abundant of wildlife such as padymelons, possums, platypus and other wildlife are frequently seen especially our resident echidna who wonders happily around the property. A footbridge across the river leads directly to Mount Field National Park, with the National Park Visitor’s Centre and Cafe, the Charles Marriott Shelter (BBQ facilities and children’s playground), and Russell Falls minutes walk away. The path passes through temperate tree fern rainforest, populated by glow worms. A minimum three nights stay is recommended as this area has so much to offer- Mt Fields walks and water falls- Junee caves- styx valley and land of the Giants- Strathgordon dam-creepy crawly walk-Lake Dobson- Rail track ride- Maydena adventure hub- Tassie bound adventures and you will need time to relax and enjoy Russell Falls cottages and the peaceful river, rain forest and birdlife.

Take the opportunity to enjoy this very special place on the lake to pitch a tent or park your van. You can lay back and star gaze the myriad of stars, and even take a jump off the pontoon into the beautiful cool waters, or bring your kayaks and paddle the shores. A great base to visit the Florentine valley, Mt Field and many other nearby attractions. The tranquillity and privacy will leave you a wonderful feeling of peace. This is a wonderful place to unwind, take a swim with your dog and just hang out with the very special access to the lagoon. There are no amenities here, campers must be self contained and leave no trace. One vehicle per site, only one family group per site! If you have a family or group with more vehicles please book accordingly. I will not accept bookings that do not follow these guidelines. If you want the place to yourself feel free to book out all the sites if they are available!

Located an hours drive North West of Hobart near the quaint little town of Ouse (pronounced - ooze) and set on the pristine Derwent River. Like so many of the towns on the Derwent River, this region is very popular with bushwalkers, fishing enthusiasts, and mountain bike riders. Overlooking the "pot-belly" of the Derwent River,  This place is a fishing and kayaking heaven . Have a swim in summer, kayak or go for an adventure on your mountain bike. There are two kayaks and two SUPs you are welcome to use. And there is a boat ramp just a few kms down the road to launch your boat. The Bunkhouse is a beautifully built structure, with large windows and plenty of space. It's two storey, with the upper open-plan level accommodating 8 people in single bunk beds. A further two guests can sleep on the large sofa bed downstairs. The bunkhouse is fully self-contained with a kitchenette, toilet and shower.Clean sheets and blankets . Wi- Fi and streamed TV movie channels Please note - this is not the ritz! It's a simple bunkhouse, providing shelter to sleep, in a great location. If you wish to make use of the firepit, you'll need to BYO wood, this firepit is not often used. Instead, we'd recommend bringing a small portable bbq with you to set up by the river! You're welcome to bring pets too.

Campers must have their own amenities if staying at the campground, as there is no shower or toilet facilities. Nearest toilet and dump station is 1km away in the Maydena township. There are only basic supplies to be had at the post office, open Mon to Fri, so get all major supplies before arrival. There is a cafe and restaurant option as well. We are pet friendly however all pets must be kept under control to keep the wildlife safe. Campfires are permitted in our allocated fireplace except on days of total fire ban. Firewood is supplied. Come and relax after your day of adventuring and enjoy the tranquillity of this ideal location.

We enjoyed a peaceful night at Cluny and were lucky enough to have the whole location to ourselves. The highlight for us was to receive a visit from 3 lovely cows, who were very inquisitive but didn’t stick around. Can’t wait to visit again with the family, would be a great place for the kids.

Absolutely stunning location!! Quick and easy transaction with managers and Vicki and her partner never said No to any reasonable requests - even brought a fire pit down to our pod and some extra cooking gear because we were traveling on motorcycles!! The facilities were spotless and cosy to use - great temperature in the bathroom and the pod! So lovely right next to the river and the walks from the property are a must do!! Thoroughly enjoyed it and will be back!! Hoping by then there are eco hot tubs or similar by then.. I’d extend my stay for sure !! Thank you for a memorable time 🪶✨

Great spot nestled in between Westerway and Strathgordon to explore what the region has to offer. Andrew and Maree were a lovely couple. Very accommodating, very friendly and very knowledgeable of the local area. Directions were clear. They are just starting out so give them a go, highly recommend it. Their house is close by so respect is a must. The Cormarant bird in the pond was very entertaining.

Kayak down untamed waters, trek to the summit of Frenchmans Cap, or simply revel in the park's rugged grandeur. With camping options that place you amid the wilderness, this park is an escape to nature's most dramatic theatre.

When to go

The best time to visit Franklin-Gordon Wild Rivers National Park is during the warmer months from October to April, when the weather is more conducive to exploring the park's trails and waterways. Winter can bring snow and road closures, making access difficult and some activities hazardous.

Know before you go

  • Ensure you have a valid parks pass for entry into the national park.
  • Prepare for rapid weather changes; carry waterproof gear and warm clothing.
  • Remember, this is a Fuel Stove Only Area; open fires are prohibited.
  • Check road conditions during winter as snow may cause closures.
  • Accessibility is catered for with the wheelchair-friendly Franklin Nature Trail.
