Weekend Trip to Stooge Farm Wilderness Retreat

Secluded camping, heaps of room to set up camp away from other campers. High lights were listening to the sound of the river close by down the hill, the views of the mountain and river from our camp made it pretty special, especially on a clear night where we could stare up into a sky full of stars. Husband caught a trout in the river and I was brave enough to have a little drip which was very refreshing in the middle of the day. Richard was super friendly, came to say hi to us on our second day, he was also very accommodating and responsive to our booking and refunds as we had to change dates and amend at last minute. We would love to visit again, kids loved the experience.

Amazing campsite. It’s so good I don’t want to tell anyone about it, but secrets do no one any good. Beautiful surrounds, very quiet, campsites are spread apart well, great swimming holes and so much more. Richard is a legend!

We really loved our stay at Stooge Farm. This was our second visit this year, and managed to catch a trout this time ! Despite it being Easter weekend the place was peaceful and didn’t feel busy at all. The crystal clear river is pristine with many platypus to spot. We enjoyed starlit nights by the fire and just warm enough for morning plunges in the river. We’ll be returning again soon. Many thanks Richard for sharing this special place.

The views were very beautiful and the moment we drove in, we went, “wooow!”. Scott was very nice and accomodating. We had a very nice weather, sky was clear and all stars showing, the Milky Way was visible and a bonus, Aurora Australis! It was an excellent experience!

Scott's campsite was absolutely wonderful. There were many great ammenities that were very well maintained. The site itself was gorgeous, providing a misty morning wake-up next to the water. Its close proximity to the Cradle Mountain National Park was also perfect, minimising the amount of travel time my friends and I needed to account for. Scott is also just a really welcoming and helpful host, would HIGHLY recommend.

Beautiful peaceful private location only 20 minutes from home! Platypus, Sea Eagles and Wedge Tail Eagles! It rained on and off.. but we had awnings for shelter and a roaring fire. There were a few leaches around but to be expected so we made sure we had bushman’s spray and salt on hand.. and we only had a few to deal with. it’s Tassie weather so always be prepared. 3 out of the 4 of us even swam! Not me though ha ha

Tim was super welcoming on arrival and directed us to a beautiful area next to a small stream to camp. Besides one other camper, the area was private and tucked away. Big eucalyptus trees around and clear patches for different set ups. Would definitely go back!

Tim was super hospitable and an excellent host. We loved staying there and my son loved picking the wild blackberries that were growing all over the place. Tim came around and gave us some very delicious strawberries, grapes, apples and blueberries. Made our day :)

Trudi, the host is lovely. So welcoming & relaxed. She even gave us an opportunity to feed the alpacas & learn all about pepperberries which she grows and harvests there. Saw a gorgeous one day old goat And dog friendly off leash! The paddock is fenced. Great camping/farmstay

I'd definitely recommend staying! We really enjoyed camping here. We arrived fairly late (about 8pm) and Scott the host showed us around and suggested some spots to pitch, which was helpful as it was already dark. It's a nice campsite by a fishing lake, where we saw a platypus swimming around. We love wildlife so this was amazing! You can buy firewood and BBQs are available to use, though we didn't as it was pretty rainy during our visit. There is water but you are advised to boil or treat it before drinking. The toilets are three portaloos which were kept very clean throughout our stay. It's 15 minutes from Cradle Mountain Visitor Centre so a great location too.

Our campsites are on scenic, levelled areas overlooking the large dam and bushland, with grassed areas ideal for tents and camper-vans, and a portaloo a short walk away. The block is a natural timber and grassland block, with devils, quolls and wombats also residing here. We have one powered site available, and multiple unpowered sites. There is a lovely walking track around the dams periphery. Feed fish from the edge, spot platypus frolicking about, and keep your eye out for Peacocks wandering the property too. Whilst you are welcome to bring your dog with you, please ensure they don't harass the wildlife. Our main campground has 10 sites and is accessible for standard cars. The main campground has level grassed campsites measuring 6m in width and 19m in length (Sites 2 - 10) Campsite 1 is the larger site and measures 10m in width and 19m in length and sits seperate to the other sites.
