From here it's only minutes to the centre of Mareeba, 45 minutes to Cairns and only half an hour to Lake Tinaroo which is famous for its fishing with its monster Barra. Boonjie is a great place to base yourself to visit the amazing sights in the surrounding area! Our property has beautiful native visitors, including the occasional cassowary, and regular morning choir of ground dwelling chowachillas. This campsite suits self reliant and self contained campers who bring their own camping toilet/shower, and water supply. Lamins Hill lookout, and the entrances to Windin Falls, and the famous trek up Queensland’s Highest Mountain, are only minutes away. So too, are the Atherton Tablelands‘ crater lakes, Eacham & Barrine, and the small town of Malanda, with its iconic falls, both designated swimming destinations, though, highlights are the clear creeks between there and Boonjie (means mate). This is near “Top Camp”, where First Nations people would arrive after the gruelling walk up the Russel River, from the coast, where Innisfail now stands (Innisfail can be seen from the top road). Hectic Valley is a young and working farm and we really enjoyed our stay! The sites are very generous, with plenty of shady trees (bring your hammock!) and some right next to the dam which hosts many birds and some of the farms poultry. Its dog friendly with lovely scenery and little bush tracks. Campfires allowed and some fire rings are provided. In the booking was the option to include the animal feeding in the morning which I'm so glad we did! We were very warmely welcomed and everyone had a wonderful time feeding and playing with the baby goats, chickens and geese, goats and pigs, camels and water buffalos and many more! Best stay for families with children including groups of families!

This was definitely a favourite of ours the ease of getting there the proximity to cairns only being 20 mins the un powered sites were pick your own spot it was peaceful and tranquil the horses and chickens roaming freely made it feel like a farm stay and a big shout out to ROXY the kelpie you are a god send so beautiful always coming to say hello and have some play time loved every minute of this stay wish I had more time to stay here we will definitely be back

What an amazing little hidden gem, the three campsites are so private, all on the creek and surrounded by nature. Right in the heart of the beautiful rainforest of far North Qld tablelands. So many birds, the weather is so much cooler than the coast and the hosts Alan and Sue are super friendly and make you feel at home on their gorgeous property. Great site - especially for children! Our preschool aged children enjoyed feeding the chickens and spotting for wildlife at night (though they were too loud to see much!) I was incredibly impressed that there were no mosquitos!!! Shame we only had one night - but it was worth it and the area surrounding is beautiful - stunning waterfalls, and they’re quiet with no other visitors first thing in the morning!

This place is truly your ultimate camping experience. The land where we camp is large enough for multiple caravans and level. Right in front of where you camp is the most magical fresh water creek. Plus your own private waterfall which is a short walk from your site. This place is truly so special and magical. Hubby and I have a rule that we never return to the same place twice. In 15 years of travelling around the world- this place is the only exception Jodie is so wonderful and welcoming. Please please please respect this place and leave no trace. Beautiful little private spot next to the creek filled with fish and turtles. There were small rubbish and recycling bins provided, as well as an outhouse with a portable toilet which was kept very clean. Couldn’t swim in the creek as there has been recent croc sighting nearby but still great to camp by.
