It's a magnificent location, right on the riverbank. The camping area was extremely well presented. Lionel was very easy to deal with, he met us at the gate and showed us to our camping area. Fire pits were provided. Easy access to the river with our kayaks for a relaxing paddle. During our stay we observed kangaroos and goats drinking on the other side of the river. The bird life is amazing, from sulphur crested cockatoos, kingfishers, parrots and a hawk's nest right near our site where we watched the mother feeding her babies. We had an amazing holiday, Lionel is the perfect host of his little piece of paradise.

Really enjoyed our 3 day stay. Vast space, pretty scenary and solitude. Whist being isolated, the camp sites are well maintained with lots of options. Just be aware its a 17km drive in on a dirt road which is in reasonable condition. Also zero connectivity (which was a great thing!!) if this presents an issue for others.

Gorgeous river views and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s the perfect place for camping, kayaking and fishing, we’ll definitely bring the gear next time. This time around we just enjoyed the quietness. Lionel was a wonderful host and made us feel truly welcome.

What a magic spot. Anne met us and led us to a beautiful camp directly on the river bank. Kayaks to use were available so we spent the afternoon heading up and down the river, fishing and relaxing. There were some toilets available and fire pit. Camp spots spread out. All as described but probably even better in person!

Absolutely loved our stay! The campsite was clean, well organised, beautifully maintained and surrounded by beautiful scenery. Facilities were spotless and Phil & Anne were such welcoming hosts.
There’s plenty of space between other campsites, making it the perfect spot to relax and unwind. We’ll definitely be back!

The staff were super friendly and welcoming, making the stay feel relaxed and easy. Had the steak sandwich for dinner – absolutely delicious, highly recommend it!
Camping options were great too – you can choose between powered sites with water for just $25, or free unpowered camping if you're happy to go without. Either way, it's a great value stop with a great atmosphere. Would definitely recommend to fellow travellers looking for a laid-back stay with good pub food. And there is a pool!

What an amazing and tranquil spot right on the Dumaresq River, next to the Glenarbon Weir, right on the border of NSW and Qld. Phil and Anne have an amazing property and are fantastic hosts! Didn't have any luck with the fishing ... but we are the worst fishing people of all time ;) We only stayed one night this time, but we will be back again soon and will stay longer next time!

What can we say but another excellent stay. The camp area was very well presented with the site well mowed and marked out. The ladies loved the porta loos which were clean and in great condition.
The river didn’t let us boys down with plenty of shrimp for gait and fish biting well.
We highly recommend this camp site and Phil and Anne are fantastic hosts.

Where to go
Coolmunda
State forests, lakes, and national parks stretch northeast of Goondiwindi on the Queensland side. Hike or mountain bike along the tree-lined trails of Whetstone or Bringalily forests, then check into a camping ground on the shores of Lake Coolmunda. Bushwalks and bird-watching are the most popular activities around the lake, while summer campers can enjoy water sports and boat cruises.
Texas and around
East of Goondiwindi, the country town of Texas serves up a slice of rural Aussie culture—visit for the legendary Texas Races in December for the full experience. Camp by the lakeside at nearby Glenlyon Dam, dive into the region’s history at the Tobacco Museum and Texas Rabbit Works, or enjoy bush camping at Goat Rock. Or, escape over the border into NSW and explore Dthinna Dthinnawan National Park by mountain bike or 4WD.
Northwest NSW
Across the border in NSW, the mosaic farmlands of Goondiwindi give way to the creeks, floodplains, and lagoons of the Gwydir Valley. Paddle around the wetlands in a canoe or kayak, enjoy bird-watching around the waterways, or camp out by the waterside. The region’s main town is Moree, known for its natural mineral-rich thermal springs—ideal for recuperating after a day of exploring.
When to go
Goondiwindi’s mild weather makes it a year-round destination for campers, but bird-watching is best in spring (September through November). Wildflowers dot the surrounding countryside at this time, and the town’s jacaranda trees burst into bloom from October—the vibrant purple flowers make for some beautiful photos.
Know before you go
- Goondiwindi has bus links to nearby towns, but having your own transport is useful for exploring the wetlands and forests.
- Goondiwindi has a good selection of shops where you can pick up camping gear and stock up on supplies.
- Fire bans are common in Queensland during summer and dry periods, so check local recommendations before lighting a fire or always use designated fire pits.
