Chapman Valley

219 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents6000 acres · Garland Valley, NSW
With its large, secluded Bush Campsites, 'Chapman Valley' is still Sydney's best-kept secret! Picture this. Your weekend escape is relaxed from the very start - the car trip along the scenic winding Putty Road is slow and leisurely as you know you can arrive at any time for the self serve check-in. After signing in, you meander through this Beef Cattle farm, heading to your own designated camping area. A private corner of the property all to yourselves! After setting up camp, and showing off your awesome (of course) campfire lighting skills, you sink back in your camp-chair and listen to ...the bush. And you see ...the bush. Not a single other camper in site. Oh, except the ones you invited with you of course! There they are. The kids running enthusiastically across the open paddock chasing after their footy, with Buster, the family dog happily nipping at their heels. "They'll sleep well tonight!" you think to yourself happily, as you sink further into your camp-chair and take a long drink on that ice cold beer. 1hr drive from the nearest town (Singleton), "Chapman Valley" is the perfect oasis for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle. There are no nearby shops so be sure to bring everything with you. The property offers over 100kms of bush tracks ideal for walking, push-bike riding or 4WDing. On site-horse riding is available, offering rides ranging from 1hr family rides to full day experienced rides. Check out our website for a full list of offerings. The Communal camping area is within walking distance of our amenities block, which offers flushing porcelain toilets and a hot shower. Bush campsites are fully self-sufficient, BYO (bring your own) water and toileting system. All campers are required to take their rubbish home with them as there are no bins on site. Sites available for all vehicle types, from buses and large caravans to fully kitted out off-road vehicles.

Wanderlust Retreat

19 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents222 acres · Putty, NSW
We looked for alternative ways of living 6 years ago so we purchased 220 acres to build an off grid camping/eco resort. The property consists of a straw bale house, Tipis, Cottages, 5 stars shared facilities (hot showers, flushing toilets - disable toilet ), outdoor kitchen (gas bbq, pizza oven, all kitchen utensils, pots ), solar system and worm farm septic system. The facilities of the camping are quite luxurious some guests labelling them "better than at home" so you can enjoy the bush experience & still have the comfort of a home. Here you can discover amazing wildlife such as kangaroos, wallabies, wombats, cockatoos, lyre birds and a lot of other birds (designated bird drinking stations through a WIRES program which has a lot of success.) Bring a camera and take in the incredible sights such as wildlife, cliffs, caves, and a magical view of Mount Yengo and Moruben from the top of the property. They are designated walking tracks around the property with all variable lengths & difficulties. Swimming pool, water hole to cool down in summer Pets friendly Access all-wheel drive Events possible Please enjoy some of the reviews our previous guests have left for us: "Wanderlust has a beautiful hidden valley and thanks for sharing with us. We bush walked and climbed mountains (it felt like it). Back at our camp; delicious dinner, some nice reds and a beautifully relaxing camp fire. A great little getaway. " - Michelle and Paul. Cabins near Wisemans Ferry guide

Overview

With its prime location along the banks of the Hawkesbury River and surrounded by national parks, Wisemans Ferry is the gateway to central New South Wales. Ride the historic cable ferry across the river, uncover Australia’s convict history along the Old Great North Road, or take to the water for a boat cruise or kayak excursion. Campsites and caravan parks dot the riverside, and the neighboring Dharug National Park is also a favourite for campers. Pitch your tent at Mill Creek and enjoy direct access to the park’s hiking and mountain biking trails.

Where to go

Hunter Valley

The Macdonald River winds its way north from Wisemans Ferry all the way into the Hunter Valley wine region. Stop to visit the colonial town of St Albans—lunch at the riverside pub is a must—before exploring the wild landscapes of the Yengo National Park. There’s a wide range of bushland hikes, 4WD excursions, and mountain bike trails in the park, plus several camping grounds and picnic areas to choose from.

Blue Mountains

Southwest of Wiseman’s Ferry, the Blue Mountains National Park is the outdoor getaway of choice for day-trippers from Sydney. Ride the Scenic Railway or Cableway to admire dramatic gorges and waterfalls, spot kangaroos and koalas as you hike through lush eucalyptus forests, and see the famous Three Sisters rocks. Tourist parks provide camping near all the main attractions, while tranquil farm stays and bush campgrounds offer a back-to-nature experience.

Central Coast

If you tire of riverside activities, the beaches of NSW’s Central Coast are less than a 2-hour drive from Wiseman’s Ferry. Broken Bay is a water sports hotspot at the mouth of the Hawkesbury River, while popular destinations such as Avoca, Shelly, and Pelican lie just to the north.  Enjoy swimming, surfing, and boat cruises along the coast, play a game at an oceanside golf course, then check into a beachside campsite.

When to go

Summer (December through February) is peak season in Wiseman’s Ferry, and it’s best to book campsites in advance if visiting at this time. Spring and autumn provide the ideal weather for bushwalking and camping in the national parks, and the natural landscapes are at their most colorful, scattered with spring wildflowers or fall foliage. The town falls quiet in winter, but most campsites remain open year-round, and rates are often lower.

Know before you go

  • There are buses to Wisemans Ferry from Sydney, but you will need your own transport to explore the surrounding national parks.
  • Wisemans ferry has a number of general stores but for specialist camping gear you might need to go to Sydney, about a 1-hour drive away.
  • Fire bans are common in New South Wales during summer and dry periods, so check local recommendations before heading out.
