2 nights at Altamira Along Bakers Creek

Great place to camp. Will definitely be one for us to return to. For the kids: lots of room to run around and they loved all the animals running around and able to pat. The weather was a bit rainy when we were there but the hot spa still aloud us to get in the water. Adult: great beer garnden and pool table over looking the kids toy room that allows you to relax and unwind while the kids play and still able to see them. The owners are lovely and made the stay very enjoyable. Recommend this camp site.

Peaceful spot alongside the river, we enjoyed our stay and would be happy to visit again. Pros: welcoming host, private and peaceful campsite, easy river access for a SUP or fishing or a rinse, safe from any major hazards for our toddler. Cons: toilet far away from site, lots of mosquitos early morning and evening, river is very dark so was a bit off putting to swim in but still refreshing, tent site on a bit of an incline which would be ideal to flatten further.

Loved camping here! It was peaceful and private. The river was beautiful. We camped near site #3. Debora met us at the gate to help us find our site as it was dark when we arrived. If you are by the river make sure to bring some mosquito repellent. We didn't see any dolphins this time but saw lots of other wildlife like crabs, possums, and kangaroos.

Me and my friends went camping for the first time and it was truly an amazing experience. The beautiful waterside view with the jetty and the late night view of the stars is amazing. Debora really went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had a good time. Could not recommend more!

3 nights at Carawirry Forest Escape

The cottage was a stunning place to spend the weekend even though it rained so we didn’t get to explore as much of the bush as we would have liked. Loved the maps which greeted us with so many surprising options to explore. We walked lyrebird and yowie tracks which were challenging but very rewarding. No lyrebird sightings this time round but definitely worth the climb up the side of the mountain. Had a lovely time chilling with the walleroos in the outdoor tub after that one!

1 night at Jali Farmstay

Jali farmstay is a beautiful well kept place. Hosts were accomodating and friendly. Facilities neat and clean. Plenty of grassland to camp by the river. Jetty is a great spot for fishing or just watching wildlife. Fire pits were provided and fire wood is available for purchase ( generous amount and well priced). We will be back. .

2 nights at Manning River Retreat

Chris and Graham were so hospitable. Chris met us with organic tomatoes from her garden and Graham checked in daily to ensure we had what we needed. The church itself is amazing and very comfortable. The river is a 5--10 minute walk away and we headed down each morning for a delicious swim. However our absolute favourite was sitting by the fire under the stars at night. We were blessed to have amazing weather whilst we were there. I would thoroughly recommend staying in the church, it's an amazing experience. I did overlook the fact that no power means no plugs to charge a phone, and I hadn't bought a battery pack. However, Graham kindly showed us where we could use some power sockets up near their house.

Beautiful spot right on the river with a pontoon as well as a boat ramp. Even though there was another group there, we were spread out enough we didn’t even notice. Debora was a lovely host, always checking in on how we were doing and quick responses on hipcamp.

This was my highlight of my road trip. I had the place all to myself. It’s very well maintained, lawn was mowed, the ammenities were kept beautifully and the scenery was absolutely stunning. The host was amazing and very friendly, I really enjoyed our chat over a beer. I highly recommend this place to anyone passsing through. The cows were super friendly as well!

What a lovely but of land this is. Beautiful views of the rolling hills. The kids loved all the animals and splashing around in the pool. We were the only ones there for 3 days and was a perfect spot to relax and chill.

We loved this place! We stayed 3 nights and didn’t bother exploring around Stroud as intended, the property was soo tranquil, private and peaceful, we didn’t want to leave. Cherie and Greg are super friendly hosts, and checked in and chatted with us throughout our stay. Definitely be back.

The Branch River Retreat

Our property is private so we ask you to contact us first to ensure we can provide the facilities suitable for you. The Retreat is on a wide river estuary, offering sites in open paddocks, seclu among trees and dams. It best suits off-road independent hybrid caravaners and tent dwellers. The river is line with mangroves and branches off the Karuah River (mosquitoes feed the leaping fish) and dolphins are frequent. Birdlife includes: Wedge-tailed and sea eagles, hawks, Tawny Frogmouths, water waders, occasional Jabiroos, pelicans and swans. Be woken by Magpies and Kookaburras, colourful parrots and smaller shyer birds. You'll see kangaroos, wallabies, and maybe Echidnas. You may espy a Koala along the foreshore. For this reason, while we accept dogs, they must be on a leash (if not just for their own safety). The boat ramp allows access for kayaks/canoes. Or just sit on a camper chair and dangle your feet in the water while watching the mud crabs go about their social business. Riverside sites are not powered and do not have water or sewerage. They are situated within 10m to 25m of each other and if this is too close, we recommend booking two sites. Generally, we prefer campers to be 100% self-contained, with their own toilet. A toilet is however accessible, but some 300m to 400m distance from the dams and rivers. There is cold potable running water here for topping up. Sealed roads to the front gate to access the property from north and south. All-weather gravel road access is available, although paddock sites can only be accessed by vehicle during dry periods. Weather willing, we can provide more secluded sites by some lovely dams, (please check conditions if you have concerns). Local groceries can be sourced from Karuah and Stroud. Activities include: - Bird/nature watching - Paddling/canoeing - Fishing - Bike riding (small motor vessels only by arrangement) - Surface type: grass or paddock leveled areas and others with slight slopes and accessed with 4WD (of course subject to weather). - Generally fair to good Mobile phone access. - BYO or Preorder firewood for applicable sites out of fire season. - No electrical connections unless by arrangement (for longer term Hipcampers) - We treat our own sewerage. - No generators please.

A large sheltered area, our camp kitchen, includes fridge, barbeque, electricity, kettle, table, chairs and more. Enjoy bird watching, visiting wallabies in the late afternoon, or looking for fossils in the seasonal creek just a few metres away. The historical town of Stroud is only 10 or so minutes away if you need supplies. Karuah River is close by for swimming and fishing, and the Barrington Tops National Park is approximately 50 minutes away. Ride Dungog is located at The Common in Dungog, for mountain bike enthusiasts. The area includes 650 acres offering trails for all different levels. While visiting Dungog, there are boutique cafes and shops, a historic cinema, and a lot more to see as you wander through the streets. Unfortunately we no longer have parties, including 18ths, 21sts etc.
