Brightwater sits beside Olney State Forest and Kuluwan Flora Reserve. It is a 50-acre farm with a lovely spring-fed dam, with our nearby campsite. The site contains van parking, an open pavilion, an open deck by the stream, a fire pit, and a dunny. It is private and secluded, and with just one group staying at a time, you are guaranteed the space to yourselves. Please go straight ahead on Collins Ave and enter through the car entrance, NOT the truck entrance which is off to the right. If you come in the truck entrance I can't see you. There are many beautiful walking and bike trails in the area. Lots of wildlife to meet, including water dragons, wild ducks, and pythons, to name a few. There is also nearby evidence of the original occupants, the Darkinjung people. You are also welcome to bring a couple of horses! There's a safe paddock with a trough and nice trails in the area to explore. The Kulnura General Store and bottleshop is just 9km down the road for basic supplies.

We are unfortunately unable to take new bookings for the foreseeable future and likely until late 2026. Please check back with us later next year. Our property is private so we ask you to contact us first to ensure we can provide the facilities most suited to you. It suits off-road independent hybrid caravaners and tent dwellers. The river is home to mangroves (so mosquitoes feed the leaping fish), all manner of sea creatures and dolphins are frequent in drier periods. Birdlife includes an array of land and waterbirds, such as Eagles, Magpies, Kookaburras, colourful parrots and smaller shyer birds. The wildlife includes kangaroos, wallabies, echidnas, reptiles. You may espy a Koala along the foreshore. For this reason, while we accept dogs, they must be on a leash (if not just for their own safety). The boat ramp has good access for kayaks/canoes. Or just sit on a camper chair and dangle your feet in the water while watching the mud crabs go about their social business. Riverside sites are not powered and do not have water or sewerage. They are situated within 10m to 25m of each other and if this is too close, we recommend booking two sites. Generally, we prefer campers to be 100% self-contained, with their own toilet. A toilet is however accessible, but some 300m to 400m distance from the dams and rivers. There is cold potable running water here for topping up. Sealed roads to the front gate to access the property from north and south. All-weather gravel road access is available, although paddock sites can only be accessed by vehicle during dry periods. Weather willing, we can provide more secluded sites by some lovely dams, (please check conditions if you have concerns). Activities include: - Bird/nature watching - Paddling/canoeing - Fishing - Bike riding (small motor vessels only by arrangement) - Surface type: grass or paddock leveled areas and others with slight slopes and accessed with 4WD (of course subject to weather). - Generally fair to good Mobile phone access. - BYO or Preorder firewood for applicable sites out of fire season. - No electrical connections unless by arrangement (for longer term Hipcampers) - We treat our own sewerage. - No generators please.

A truly peaceful spot. Very secluded & quiet just the way we like it. Appreciated the fire being ready to go with wood supplied & the surprise marshmallows were a treat. Easy drive through access for vans. Though we heard splashing on approach, the elusive Platypus managed to evade us, however we did enjoy sitting on the chairs provided trying to spot them. Dane was easy to communicate with & very accommodating. We will definitely be returning to Platypus Bend again. Highly recommend.

The perfect getaway! Me and my boys (age 6 and 8) had an amazing camp. Boys loved exploring the creek, swimming in the dam, fire at night, the rainforest walk, saying hi to the sheep and sleeping to the melody of the frogs. So great to just turn up with a tent + food and have everything else there for you. It was perfect. Thanks Cath!

Dane is an incredible host who thought of everything, detailed info folder, safety signs, firewood, kayaks, sports equipment even an arrival marshmallow gift. The campsite is flawless: easy access, level areas, sun & shade balance, beautiful creek frontage, and our dogs loved it (fully fenced one side + creek border on the other). We saw platypus every day, heard amazing birdlife, and enjoyed peace like nowhere else. We will 100% be back. Thank you so much Dane.

Platypus Bend is a special spot indeed. A lovely large flat grassed spot that is well looked after, no one around, gorgeous creek and thoughtful extra special touches. What a fantastic place to unwind in nature. Loved my two night stay and will be back again someday for a recharge. Communication was easy with Dane through the app and access is easy and directly to the spot. Fire was all set up ready to go. Perfect 10/10.

It was absolutely beautiful and peacefull. Cath was lovely and her property is absolutely beautiful. She showed us to our camp sites and left us to it. We didnt see ot hear her for the rest of our stay. The walking trails are quite beautiful. The kids really enjoyed the freedom or running around. We were also able to get our commodore in no issue but is a dirt bumpy road.

We really enjoyed our stay at Branch River Retreat. Deborah was very accommodating and welcoming. We had the whole River front to ourselves which was lovely for the whole family. Took our tinny out on the river and had a beautiful interaction with some dolphins, saw a magnificent sea eagle, caught a couple of fish and enjoyed the serenity. Very peaceful spot. Look forward to coming back in the warmer months.

We loved our time at Cath’s camping spot. The campsite is equipped with a campfire with grill for cooking and ample firewood, big undercover area, clean drop toilet, lovely deck with picnic table and chairs, and clean running water, sink and bench top for cleaning. Our dogs had a great time and met one of the gorgeous ridgebacks who hung out with us for a while. It was very quiet and private on site. Things to note: we did have a few ticks that were around and on the dogs and tents. There was no phone reception. We’d love to come back!
