We had an amazing 2 nights at The Hill. Weather was perfect, warm during the day, sunny, cool at night, perfect for sitting around the campfire. Beautiful spot to sit, enjoy the scenery and relax. The spot to set up is great, lots of flat grassed area, lights around the campfire scar at a special atmosphere.

We had a lovely stay at The Hill over Easter long weekend! Despite a bit of rainy weather when we arrived, the wind was not bad for setting up and the next morning we were greeted with clear skies and mist all around.
Our dog loved having plenty of space to run around off-lead, while the peace and quiet of the location was exactly what we needed! The goats were inquisitive but stayed in their contained area so we didn’t have any issues with them getting too close. We could easily have stayed another couple of nights. Thanks Brad for having us!

The Hill
We visited The Hill over a rainy, overcast weekend, which set the stage for a conversation between us and the area. To start, you’re welcomed onto the property by 5 goats, with 1 being a truly interesting character - I’ll leave you to find out who I am talking about. You’ll spend your stay not only piecing together the social dynamics of these friendly goats, but enjoying the dynamic scenery. For us this was highlighted especially by the storm fronts and light gleaming through the clouds. The Hill has you placed of course - on a hill. Typically I would feel above and detached from the land beneath, but the hills charm for me was the backdrop of taller hills behind and above, the gully’s either side, you get to enjoy being within the landscape. As for the amenities, can I mention the goats again? The hill has a circle of fairy lights that surround the fire scar, coming on just minutes after you’d suspect, making for both a nice surprise and a cozy evening. Just up from the main camp site is the out house, the first I’ve ever been in that hasn’t left me with a sting up my nose. And just outside there is water and soap. I could go on about our stay at The Hill, and if you’re reading this you’re probably thinking I have. But what a great experience we had, only issue is I’ll have to find more time to come out again, mainly to check in with the goats!

The Hill
We had a great time at The Hill. The location was perfect, and no one around (apart from the goats which kept the dogs entertained). The toilet was built really well and close enough to the camp to walk to. And we loved the little seating area to sit at with the lights on a night time - a really nice touch! We'd definitely stay here again!

This was our second time camping at Blackwood Hill and will definitely be a regular for us. We spent a very hot (40 deg) weekend here and had a really comfortable time, the causeway is a great spot to swim and cool off, with some great shade and flowing water. We went into town and visited the newly renovated Settlers Arms pub (twice) - their local sourced scotch fillet was absolutely prime.
Brad is always a great host and has some good tips for the area - can't go wrong staying at Blackwood Hill!

Great spot without other campers nearby - it’s a hill so a bit exposed to the wind and sun, we were lucky to have cooler weather but definitely byo shade for hotter days. Lovely hammocks under the trees by the little dam, easy walk to the river along the country road, close to dungog - and the composting toilet was a bonus! Overall a good spot for a group to spend time catching up and relaxing after Christmas

The Hill
Awesome spot high up enough for 360° scenic views. Such a nice place to unwind and decompress. The hosts were so accommodating when I wasn't able to stay the two night minimum, and were very welcoming and informative. Highly recommend!

Lovely little get away with country feel, the site is located on a small hill with views of paddocks and distant hills; to the back of the site is bushy hill where we walked our dogs;
A little dam with hammocks on its shores offers a relaxing spot to read or just be; there is a fire scar and log sitting area, so no need to bring your own fire pit; drop toilets are also available on the site;
The owners Bradley and Sarah were super nice and accommodating; they often stay at the property but away from the camping site; they’ve provided us with clear directions and information on the property which made our stay super easy!
We had two dogs & they loved the space to run; we were treated to stunning sunset one night and the blood moon the next!

Beautiful peaceful location on a hill with lovely rural views, gorgeous river swimming nearby and everything we needed for some quiet rest. Kids loved the soccer pitch. We all loved the fireplace. Great place for our dog too - heaps of room to explore and a dam to jump in! (Note - need to keep dogs clear of cattle in neighbouring fields). Excellent composting toilet and hand-washing facilities. There is a hot shower in town at Dungog Common too, if you're in need. Brad was a fantastic host and made sure we had all the info we needed. We loved it here, it was perfect for us.

Beautiful hilltop in hill country. Very quiet and peaceful, heavenly views. Dogs loved having a run. Owner Bradley a lovely man and very helpful.
The drive is not that bad, the really steep bit is quite short. Got up easily in my Honda CRV, it is awd, and it was dry.
The fire circle with fairy lights is a bit magic too.

Great spot on the hill. Very quiet and amazing views. The sky at night is amazing and the sunset over the hills just beautiful. Communication with Brad was great. Very easy. The place has a great clean compost toilet as well. Lovely spot.

We loved this campsite! The location was amazing, with the most beautiful sunset. The owner had prepared a lovely area with fairy lights and wooden blocks to sit around the campfire. We briefly met the owner the next day and he was super friendly. It was great hearing his plans for the land and he was even building a future toilet shed with a handsaw! He recommended us to cool down in the local river, which was a lovely walk. We saw some awesome wildlife, an echidna and diamond python❤️ Also don’t forget to turn off the fairy lights and enjoy the beautiful stars at night, stunning! We even experienced a meteorite hitting the atmosphere! We will definitely come back🤙🏼

What a top spot! Bradley was a great host. Super responsive & accommodating. His place is a little gem not far out of dungog, one of the prettiest towns in the Hunter. Make sure you’re set up before sunset so you can kick back and enjoy the 10/10 views.
FYI I did not have a 4WD and found the driveway easy.

This was an excellent camping spot! Nice flat grassy area with plenty of room. The fire set up is great with some nice ‘cafe lights’ surrounding it. Great to watch the sunset. Beautiful view over the farmland and river. Heaps of flat space for the kids to safely run around/play soccer. Brad’s property is right on the Fosterton Rd cycle loop making it a perfect spot for our weekend bike ride. Would love to visit again.

4WD is a MUST for this property. We arrived after some rain and unfortunately got stuck on the steep driveway. Even if we weren’t pulling a camper, I don’t think a AWD vehicle would work for this property - esp. after the rain. The info does say 4WD recommended - our fault for not seeing it! But the owner Brad, was an absolute superstar. He came from over an hour away and tried to get us unstuck. We unfortunately couldn’t get out, and Brad gave us a ride to Dungog where we stayed the night. He then returned the next day to help us again. Luckily we found a local farmer with a tractor that was able to get us out.
Shame though, cause the view from this property is to die for! While we were sitting waiting for a rescue, we just sat staring at the sun setting over the hills/valley and it was gorgeous. So highly recommend for anyone with a 4WD.
And a BIG shout out to Brad - most hosts would not have gone so far out of their way to help us, after we fully should have seen 4WD recommended - or his email warning about the rains and the steep hill. He went above and beyond what any host normally would have.

The Hill
We absolutely loved our time camping in this spot with the rolling hills, misty mornings and peaceful country stillness. Brad was a great host and it was a perfect spot for star gazing, and staring into the fire. We loved swimming in the Williams River nearby and had a drive north from Dungog into the forest. Had a great coffee at the Dungog Trading Post too! Definitely recommend.

Amazing views and area right near Dungog a short 10 min drive. The sometimes long and dense grass as the campsite was a annoying as there was a lot of bugs crawling around (grass hoppers, spiders, caterpillars). There was also some pot holes that almost caused injuries. Owners were lovely and assured they would get them fixed.
