We will leave you entirely to yourselves but if you do need any help or information or even a little guided walking tour of the locality we are very happy to accommodate you. Our sauna deck is a shared area which guests are welcome to use, heating the sauna takes an hour or two, so just let us know and we will get it all ready for you with fresh towels, scented oils and branches of freshly cut lavender or wormwood to create a beautiful ambience.

We are 1.5 hrs from Sydney. On arrival you will feel the atmosphere of this wilderness area. Colo River Hut is located adjacent to the Colo River. A beautiful, unspoiled location on a pristine river. With it's own private beach and over 400 metres of riverfront. We are on the opposite side of river from the the Wollemi National Park. The hut sits (alone) within the eastern (10 acre paddock) of our property. Suitable for swimming, canoes, bikes, Bass fishing, and hiking, the Colo River Hut can be as active or relaxing as you wish. The Colo River Valley remains largely undiscovered, and is on the edge of the Wollemi wilderness. The Colo is fed by the Wolgan and Capertee Rivers. It has a long history and retains much of its' early unspoiled charm.

Weekend Trip to Nos Astra

We've spent a wonderful long weekend at Nos Astra with my wife and our 4 year old. Our son loved the trampoline, the small bush walks on the property and roasting marshmallows at the bonfire. I tracked down to Cox River crossing, following some paths leading out from the back of the property and through the woods. We spent the nights laying in the trampoline and gazing at the stars. The property offered great views, was nice and quite and we even encountered some kangaroos and huge monitor goanas on our walks.

Weekend Trip to Halifax Hill

We absolutely loved our stay at The Mountain Shack & having the whole place to ourselves in the middle of nature. It’s such a unique property — full of charm, quirks, and thoughtful touches. We spent the evening playing board games and drinking wine by candlelight, which made it feel like we’d stepped back in time (a little spooky, but in the best possible way!). There’s plenty of space to explore, we ducked into the nearby town to the Settlers Arms pub during the day, where there was live music playing in the courtyard, it was lovely. The hosts were incredibly communicative and helpful throughout our stay. If you’re after a rustic, one-of-a-kind getaway, this is it.

We absolutely loved our stay! The place is nestled beautifully in the woods with stunning mountain views — so peaceful, quiet, and relaxing. The accommodation was exactly as described on the website, clean, comfortable, and had everything we needed for a perfect getaway. The host (John) was just fabulous — incredibly kind, helpful, and super quick to respond to any queries. You can truly tell they care about their guests! Weekend Trip to Jila Camp Grounds

Our family with young kids and small dogs loved our time there. The tents were nice and spacious, and we liked the provided linen. The toilets were modern and clean, and we enjoyed the large shared firepit in the middle. The highlight was spending the hot days down at the river - it had a lovely atmosphere and was shallow enough for the kids and dogs to wade through. It is a bit tricky to walk up and down the embankment, especially if you're carrying a toddler or baby. The road into the campground is a little rough for a sedan or typical car, but no issue for a SUV. Great option for a first-time family camping trip - we will be back!

Weekend Trip to Colo River Hut

We lovedthe peace and and quiet. The views from the hut while washing up were nice. The hut was a great social space. The kids loved the river for kayaking and paddle boarding. The firepit was well stocked, though as there was fire ban we saddly did not try it out. The cows and Jeffrey the Emu were a nice relaxing find. Richard the owner was quick at communication and a nice polite man full of stories about the past of that area. Thank you for a nice time and we will be back. Christine

It is very clean and makes you feel most comfortable during camp. It was so nice that the inside of the tent was spacious and clean, and the bathroom shower was also very clean for use as an outdoor bathroom and shower. The campfire was also set up without danger, which was great for the kids and even better because there were not many bugs.

Weekend Trip to Halifax Hill

We stayed here with our three children. While it wasn’t the most ideal setup for a young family, the quirky, back-to-basics charm really shone through for our 5- and 8-year-olds. No phones, no iPads – just fire, play, and conversations. With St Albans only a few kilometres away, we were able to enjoy a day of adventure there, as well as Wisemans Ferry, where the girls loved paddling on the sandbanks by the park. The shack itself has loads of charm and would be especially perfect for a couple or a small group of adults wanting to cook, share a bottle of wine, relax, and soak up the nature all around. We still thoroughly enjoyed our stay with the girls – and they did too, which is the main thing. The host was super communicative and responsive, and we were well looked after. Shack charm – a winner.

Weekend Trip to Colo River Hut

Wonderful camp with plenty of flat land. Fantastic facilities with amenities, power, and shade and river access for launching a kayak. Host provided firewood for the first night which was very much appreciated. Stunning night skies if it is clear. Love that you have it to yourself so it truly is a relaxing camp. Easy to find and great host directions. Thanks Richard!

We had a wonderful stay at Jilla Flash Camp and highly recommend it. The tents were comfortable and clean, and although we initially thought there might be mould, Bill kindly reassured us they were just gumtree stains. We had originally booked two tents due to capacity, but Phil went out of his way to adjust our booking so the kids could stay together, which we really appreciated. The camp kitchen was well-equipped with everything we needed, and the beds were cozy and restful. The highlights of our stay were spending time by the creek and gathering around the firepit—both made the experience truly memorable. Overall, a very pleasant and enjoyable stay!

Weekend Trip to Halifax Hill

We had a gorgeous stay at the Mountain Shack at Halifax Hill. A delightful shack with rustic beauty and an earthy, artsy feel. It had everything we needed and more- indoor and outdoor fires, board games galore, electric blankets on the bed, cooking facilities- all in a beautiful and peaceful location. Steve & Helen were responsive and prompt communicators and the whole trip was smooth and easy from start to finish. Our toddler and our dog had a ball, too. Highly recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing hideaway, perfect for couples, families or friends! Thanks Steve & Helen- we will be back!

Weekend Trip to Nos Astra

We absolutely enjoyed our night at Nos Astra. There was plenty of information about the place, how to get there, what to bring, what to be cautioned about etc. Also the place had everything we needed with both indoor and outdoor fireplaces. The mountain view from the place was amazing and sunrise was a cherry on top! Highly recommend :)
