Brightwater sits beside Olney State Forest and Kuluwan Flora Reserve. It is a 50-acre farm with a lovely spring-fed dam, with our nearby campsite. The site contains van parking, an open pavilion, an open deck by the stream, a fire pit, and a dunny. It is private and secluded, and with just one group staying at a time, you are guaranteed the space to yourselves.
Please go straight ahead on Collins Ave and enter through the car entrance, NOT the truck entrance which is off to the right. If you come in the truck entrance I can't see you.
There are many beautiful walking and bike trails in the area. Lots of wildlife to meet, including water dragons, wild ducks, and pythons, to name a few. There is also nearby evidence of the original occupants, the Darkinjung people.
You are also welcome to bring a couple of horses! There's a safe paddock with a trough and nice trails in the area to explore.
The Kulnura General Store and bottleshop is just 9km down the road for basic supplies.

An easy 20 minute drive from the M1 (Pacific Motorway) Morisset exit, Wombat Flats Campsite is an exclusive, quiet and private camping area at the back of our 100 acres. We only book one group at a time so you will have the entire site and facilities all to yourselves! There is no traffic noise: all you will hear is the sound of the bush! The campsite borders Watagan National Park and guests can access the park directly through our back gate for bushwalking activities. Our farm itself includes walking trails, a dam and plenty of native wildlife, including birds, wombats, wallabies, echidnas and reptiles. We are devoted to horses and care for a diverse herd that includes some rescue brumbies and other beautiful equines you may meet on your walks.
The closest cafe (Bistro Eden, a popular spot for coffee and food) is 15 minutes drive, and the closest Coles/Woolworths is 20 minutes drive away at Morisset. The Hunter Valley is an easy 1 hour drive away, with many wineries and restaurants to choose from. Fishing activities in Dora Creek or Lake Macquarie (15 - 20 minutes drive) are a popular pastime, as are beaches activities (45 minutes drive away).

Nestled under the Watagan mountains escarpment in the Hunter valley, the property has some amazing views in all directions, but still remains secluded and hidden from view. The property has been selectively cleared to maintain a balance of open land and untouched bushland which has a boundary to the Watagans National Park.
The animal life is very diverse as many species transition from the Watagans into the property and many live on site full time. These include flocks of amazing bird species such as Gang gang and Black Cockatoos, resident Wedge tailed eagles, Kookaburras, finches, honey eaters, Coucals, Lyrebirds and more. Wallabies of various types are common, and Sugar gliders can be seen on the flowering Eucalypts.
The camping areas for RV's sit on a large elevated flat area that border a large gorge with broken views towards the Hunter Valley vineyards. The Gorge (or Canyon) is rimmed by caves and has rainforest type trees in the bottom. The caves can be explored and the rainforest can be walked if you are fit!
The tent and camper trailer areas are terraced into an area of slight slope with a number of sites to chose from. Non potable water taps are available at each caravan site and at intervals in the camping area. This water is clear fresh dam or bore water and can be used for showers, washing up etc. Two flush toilets are available for use by both RV's and campers. There is a central fire pit.
We have a private site which has open views over the Hunter Valley to the Vineyards and beyond to the Barrington tops. This site has a cliff edge pool that comfortably fits up to 4 people for a dip. This area has a large fire pit that can be used to heat the pool in winter.
This site has its own flushing toilet and Shower. This site is best suited to a caravan as it is terraced, though it would be possible to setup tents or a camper van in this location also. This can also be booked as a group site.
16minutes to Cessnock, 25minutes to the M1, 2.25 hours to Sydney central and 25 minutes to Pokolbin.
The location is generally very peaceful with all sorts of wildlife.
There is plenty of ground sticks for fire wood and bulk timber for purchase.

The shelter was great and there was beautiful views, the owner was very kind! Great to have a sink and a shower/toilet facilities. Only thing I would recommend is maybe some lights down the pathway to the toilet, we had a great weekend, Thank you!

Overall, the experience was great. John, the owner, was very accommodating and thoughtful—he even checked in to see how we were doing. He kindly lent me his toolkit to fix my broken tent, which I really appreciated.
The only downside was that there was just one toilet. Thankfully, there weren’t too many of us, so it wasn’t a major issue.

Perfect spot for a little getaway. 1.5 hours from south west Sydney.
The place is very grassy and has not dirt which was very nice as when it rained, it was not muddy.
Met John on arrival and he was very welcoming.
Access to the river was very easy.

What a fantastic spot right by the river . We stayed here a few weeks ago for a birthday celebration, and had the place almost to ourselves .
Hosts were very friendly and nothing too much trouble .
Facilities a little basic , only 1 toilet and shower in a small porta cabin . Could do with a make over , however they were clean and that’s what hip camps all about.
If there were a few camping there , could see it being a bit of an issue .
Overall brilliant stay and perfect for our celebration. Definitely recommend .

Beautiful spot, easy access for our 19 foot van, lots of fairly level areas and heaps of space. We were there Australia Day weekend and it was mainly families. You do need to take some care on the way in as there are some steep descents and tight turns but nothing too concerning.
Won’t be our last visit!

Me and a friend did 2 nights here and loved it. Easy to get to and easy check in. Cath (and the dogs) met us on arrival. The dogs do greet you “enthusiastically” and jumped on the car which wasn’t great but they are sweet. The white dogs are guards dogs (let out at night) and take their role seriously on the farm so should not be approached. This is standard with all guard dogs and you shouldn’t let it put you off. Cath will explain when you arrive also.
We loved the big open space and variety of setups that the camp site brings. The open cabin is fantastic and provided much needed shelter from the storm! It got a bit hairy at points so glad we had that. It’s nice bring raised up looking across the camp.
The big fire pit was great with the grill in the corner so you can cook over coals and still have your main fire next to it. Huge water tank with washing up area and tap was also a great addition.
As per another comment, there are leeches but again, just make sure to wear long trousers tucked in and check yourself when you’re walking around camp or on the trails. Same for all forest camping. We didn’t feel like it was too much of an issue. You also have the deck to keep up off the ground if you want to.
The site is plenty big for a ground of people with options to pitch tents on grass, mud, sand, the deck or in the cabin itself which we did. There’s also a couple of flat spots for parking for rooftop tents.

Our campsite was situated beside the river, and well maintained. Even though we shared the space with another couple, the ambiance remained peaceful, affording us a sense of seclusion.. One of the highlights of our stay was the chance to enjoy a nighttime campfire while gazing up at the stars. We craved a short getaway to pause and unwind, it was exactly what we got. We enjoyed our caravan stay at the Hawkesbury Hideaway despite being the hottest weekend of the year. Easy access to the river for a dip for us and the pups kept us sane, and access to power for aircon in our caravan kept us cool at night.
Easy drive to Wiseman’s Ferry and historic St Albans kept it interesting.
Nice grassy area and a few spots under trees for shade, and some nice views of the river as well. Very spacious so able to accommodate a few campers without overcrowding.
Toni was easily contactable and helpful to get us settled in.

This is our second time staying here in summer and it is just the most perfect campsite. It has it all - privacy, a beautiful healthy dam to swim in, plenty of shade from trees and the handy leanto for wet weather. There is tank water, tables and chair, a massive fire pit and plenty of fire wood.
We can’t fault Caths place!
