We are located a short 13km drive off the Hume Highway and only 45 minutes from Wagga Wagga the largest inland city in NSW. Not only is Gundagai the gateway to the Riverina but the Snowy Mountains Alpine area is within a day trip from here too, making it a great central location. We are sheep graziers, and in season, visitors can observe the newborn lambs or freshly shorn sheep. There are no amenities available, self contained camping only. Campfires permitted in designated areas when restrictions aren't in place. Please consult hosts regarding fires during dry summer months even when no fire ban in place. Good access for caravans Karoola gives you the opportunity to fish, swim, boat or kayak on the river. You can walk along the riverbank or up onto the rocky outcrop for a great view of the Murrumbidgee floodplain and surrounding farming country or perhaps you would just like to relax with a good book and drink under the huge gumtrees on the riverbank in peace and quiet. The campsite is accessible by 2WD and we can accommodate all types of camping vehicles. You will need to level your vehicle depending on which site you choose. Your pet is welcome to join you and can cool off in the dams we have available.

Put your canoe in a few kms up stream and finish at the campsite or just enjoy the solitude sitting around the campsite. A scenic drive following the Murrumbidgee and Tumut Rivers can be taken as an alternative route to Tumut or Gundagai. The site can be used a base camp to fishing, wineries, bushwalking and ski fields. There is free wood for camp fires. Friendly, well controlled pets are welcome as long as they do not spoil the camping experience of others and being mindful that there may be cattle and sheep grazing nearby. Children need to be supervised at all times as the river can be fast moving and become deep quickly and there may be the odd snake. Murrumbidgee water should be boiled or bring your own. You can always jump on your bike and head out on one of the many tracks in the area. You will need to be self sufficient and have your own toilet, water etc. There is no power in The Orchard. Due to people using the orchard as a toilet we are now no longer taking people tenting. You MUST be self sufficient. Head in Batlow to check out the bakery, RSL and Pub and admire the beauty of this small town. Or head upto Tumbarumba where you can visit the Winerys and Ginnery, have lunch at Coroubya wines,The Nest or one of the many cafes. Maybe take the challange of the Tumbarumba rail trail. We loved tent camping at site 2. Leah met us as we arrived and was incredibly helpful in showing us where our site was and pointing out where the amenities were. We really appreciated how accomodating Leah was to our individual needs. Our camping setup is primitive, but Leah offered us more permanent shelter when a big storm rolled through during our stay. Use of the pool and interactions with the farm animals were added bonuses. We couldn't be more grateful and highly recommend that everyone stays here when visiting the region.

Wonderful open area with plenty of options along the riverbend. Fishing difficult due to snags but we definitely gave it a good crack. Very steep decent down to river camping area. We had heavy caravan and luckily dry weather allowed us to get out ok. Also an awesome winery 🍷 2 mins away.

This was our third stay here in 3 years and it still is our favourite camping spot. Wayne as always was a great host. It's so tranquil with the great grassy camp sites combined with the river the bird life the cattle the views of the surrounding area and maybe a trout or two make it just so relaxing. The new toilets were a added bonus. It's only a 10 minute drive Into town for supplies and entertainment. We will be back again next year. Rob

Property was beautiful. Access through the property was well sign posted. We stayed at the lagoon where there was slow moving water for the kids to play in and fast water for fishing and adult fishing. Be warned the GPS dot for the lagoon of used in Google maps will direct you to the north side of the river and the camp-site is on the south side of the river. All in all looking forward to camping here again with friends.

1 night at Bahwidgee on Tumut River

Great location very peaceful and lots of space particularly when not busy. Seems to take in quite a number of campers including groups which might not be as enjoyable. Wayne responsive but not invasive at all.
