We are Marilyn and Peter, we own, live and run a mixed farming business from this beautiful land, located in the Central Tablelands NSW. The country varies between undulating and steep land and has 7 km of double frontage Bell River running through it. The river can range from rapidly flowing to the more usual steady flowing and is most often very clear. The river has numerous swimming spots, some with a rocky base, and some with sand. The winding river and the varying countryside is incredibly peaceful and beautiful and is a perfect retreat for those looking to disconnect and relax. The river has its origin near Orange and is also fed into by many springs. Weandre Creek runs in the backcountry and winds into the Bell River. Our comfortable Hut is situated on an elevated spot looking down on the river with a graduated road leading down. It has everything you need for a relaxing, recharging stay in nature. The Hut can accommodate up to 4 people, however, you also have the option for up to 6 additional guests to set up swags, tents, or a camper trailer nearby. There is space next to the Hut, or for those with a 4WD, there are some lovely camping sites down by the river. We also offer sites for those looking for a self-contained camping site, in a beautiful location. We love the solitude, the endless bush walks, swimming, and being immersed in nature. Our dog loved this walk and it was very cool under the trees by the creek for an Arvo drink after a long travel day. Huge site with a fire pit. Easy access for caravans. Flat site. Sally and Pete have an amazing setup here, picnic table, shelter with lighting and bore water, outdoor baths, shower... and soon a toilet. Located immediately off the highway it's location is extremely convenient. Highly recommend stopping at Johnson's gourmet butcher for an amazing piece of meat and bbq in your own little piece of paradise.

Marilyn and Peter were wonderful, warm hosts. This campsite is on a beautiful piece of land and we were free to explore our surroundings. Marilyn let us know that we could walk as far as we liked in any direction and there was little chance we would walk far enough to exit the 3000 acre property. The river is beautiful with a little beach for swimming on the other side. The farm is absolutely beautiful with rolling hills and plenty of friendly cows. We had an amazing time exploring the property and the surrounding area.

Sally was very helpful and quick to respond to our last minute request, and on arrival Peter came over and went out of his way to make sure that we had everything we needed on a cool and rainy evening. The shelter and other facilities were very useful, with the campsite tucked away from the Newell Highway. There is a bit of road noise still, but it proved to be an excellent option for our overnight stop.

The best camping near Dubbo with campfires guide

When to go

Summer in Dubbo can be baking hot but dry, while winter can be very chilly but perfect for campfires. Spring and autumn are delightful times to visit with many events taking place during school holidays. Cool days are best for zoo visits, as the animals tend to sleep when it’s hot out.

Know before you go

Hit the Dubbo Farmers Market on the first and third Saturday of every month, open from 8am till around midday.
Cutting through the centre of Dubbo, the Macquarie River features several pretty river beaches that beat a swimming pool any day.
The Wellington Caves feature a lot of steps, so they’re not very stroller-friendly. The Phosphate Mine, however, is wheelchair- and pram-accessible.
Allow a full day to visit the zoo if you want to see everything. If you’ve got bicycles, the Tracker Riley Cycleway is a rail trail that runs in a 13-km loop from Dubbo town centre out to the zoo and back.
