Mellows Ridge

16 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents40 acres · Calderwood, NSW
Nestled right up against the escarpment at an elevation of 450m, this high-end, off-grid 40 acre property effectively offers your own private slice of Macquarie Pass National Park - amazing views, giant cedar trees, fern forests, cascading waterfalls and palms surround. It feels remote but it's only 90 min from Sydney, 30 min to Kiama and just 15 min to the shops. The property also offers the only hiking path up to the top of the escarpment for some truly amazing views. As of September 2024, all the trails on the property have been massively upgraded and are passable with a 2WD car. If you're towing or it's wet we still recommend AWD or 4WD vehicles. We've just (mid December) added a spa half way up the driveway. It can be booked through the extras. We're not particularly price sensitive - until all those rate rises - but we are extremely value sensitive so we set out to make your stay extremely good value for your hard earned money. The land itself does most of the heavy lifting but also personal service and of course there's Lana to fall in love with. Note, Mellows Rd is 2.6km long and rises 400m - in parts the road is a 15 degree grade. It's all paved but narrow so if you are towing a large heavy load, it's going to strain your car.

Falls Forest

22 sites · RVs, Tents400 acres · Falls Creek, NSW
At Falls Forest, you'll find 400 acres of private native forest with an abundance of wildlife, welcoming self-contained campers to immerse themselves in nature. You'll be camped just 15 minutes drive from Huskisson, Hyamms Beach, and St George's Basin - a great location if you want laid-back bush camping, but also crave a restaurant meal and a swim in the beautiful waters of Jervis Bay. It is isolated from the overcrowded tourist parks and offers great secluded camping. At the right time, you will literally not see another human for days if that is your wish! At the current moment, a 4WD is essential to access the property. All campers must be self-contained, with their own camp toilet, and take all waste when they go. So if you are tired of that 6 metre x 6 metre tent site and don't want to hear the guy next door coughing and snoring, or if you just want to only hear the sound of the breeze through the trees, come and stay a few days or a week or longer if you wish. Seclusion this accessible from Sydney is a rare commodity. Pets are welcome, but please keep them under control as we value the wildlife. Sorry, no cats for that particular reason.

Scribbly Gum secluded bush camping

12 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents50 acres · Northangera, NSW
This property is in Northangera with the Mongarlowe River running along the boundary. It's covered in trees and provides a pristine environment amongst the "Scribbly Gums". It has flat areas with plenty of free timber for the designated fire pits. I have tried to create a haven for wildlife including Kangaroos, wombats, echidnas and platypus. I cherish the cleanliness of the river and surrounds and wish to be able to share this special environment with others who care to preserve all it offers. You can explore the property along the tracks, paddle, swim or fish in the river, enjoy the fauna, wildlife and birdlife. Located not far from Braidwood, a town steeped in history, with good shopping, coffee shops and great food. Sloping to flat land amongst the Scribbly Gum trees offering a number of sites and walks through the property. It provides both sun and shade. Access is good for vans of any size along a track through the bushland. Lovely swimming spots in the Mongalowe River, beautiful clear water, and several lovely bushwalks around the property. There is only Telstra reception available in this area. We offer 7 different sites and the maximum stay is 7 nights.

Camping near Bendalong guide

Overview

Positioned on the southern coast of New South Wales, Bendalong tempts campers to stay with its beaches and the chance to interact with local stingrays. This small, sleepy town offers fully-equipped holiday cottages with ocean views, air-conditioned cabins featuring TVs, and powered campsites with private ensuite bathroom facilities so any type of camper can call the town home. After relaxing in Bendalong, take off into nature at Booderee National Park, Morton National Park, and Murramarang National Park, all within two hours away. Each area provides accommodations that range from rustic to lavish as well as easy access to walking trails, aquatic activities, and gorgeous scenery.

Where to go

Booderee National Park

Sitting next to Jervis Bay, Booderee National Park is full of stunning coastal scenery only 30 minutes from Bendalong. It’s a top spot for swimming, fishing, boating, and sightseeing—the historic Cape St. George Lighthouse offers panoramic views for spotting migrating whales. Head to Murrays Beach for soft white sand and crystal-clear water filled with lively marine animals—a scuba diver's dream. Several on-site campgrounds offer a mix of walk-in and drive-in campsites, with some featuring power hookups. Amenities like hot showers, flush toilets, drinking water, and sheltered BBQ areas are also available.

Morton National Park

Just over an hour inland, Morton National Park boasts beautiful waterfalls, rainforest walking tracks, and over a dozen scenic lookouts. Campgrounds here have plenty of room for tents, caravans, and motorhomes. While the campsites are unpowered, comforts like drinking water, toilets, showers, picnic tables, and boat ramps prioritise convenience. Campers can also hop on the bike to explore the Bundanoon cycling route, saunter down an elevated boardwalk to view Fitzroy Falls, or slip the kayak into Kangaroo River.

Murramarang National Park

With 42 kilometres of coastline, Murramarang National Park is worthy of a visit on a NSW camping trip. It features a beachfront holiday resort, fully-equipped vacation houses with outdoor lounge furniture and effortless beach access, private cabins with bunk beds and bathrooms, and a range of campgrounds for tents and caravans. After finding a spot to sleep, spend the day swimming, fishing, or soaking up the sun at Depot Beach. Then head up to Point Upright lookout for views of Durras Lake and the surrounding forest.

When to go

Bendalong is easily enjoyed year-round, but certain seasons offer special perks. While winters are cooler, migrating whales can be spotted in June and early July from Booderee National Park’s coastline. It’s also mating season for lyrebirds, so watch for their charming courting dances in Murramarang National Park. The wildflowers in spring also bring beautiful colour to the landscape.
