We absolutely loved our stay here. We did tent camping for one night and brought all our own equipment and water. Laurie and Scott were so welcoming and made us feel right at home on their gorgeous property. They were very responsive to all my questions ( and believe me, I had a lot during these unusual circumstances). They made sure we felt safe and had everything we needed during our stay. I enjoyed ALL their amazing animals, and this was the perfect place to get away from the city. Their property is available in different sections. They have a spot for RV's and then various spots for camping with a tent. Everything about this place was exactly what you need for a weekend getaway and it is not too far from Paonia so you can visit the little town. I can't recommend this place enough, I loved it so much. The owners, the views, and the charm will absolutely bring me back to this place!
Excellent views, good access
I loved staying at Sage View Ranch! We rented several tent sites and there was plenty of room. The views from the tent sites were fantastic and there was good access to the property and a two-minute walk from where we parked to camp. The #2, 3 & 4 campsites feel private from the others and we couldn’t see the neighbors.
It feels like the hosts have put a lot of work into making a fun place to visit. The composting toilet was clean and didn’t even smell. The hosts have cats & dogs but they stayed down near the parking/fire pit area. My friend met the goats and we left with some fresh milk and eggs, which I really appreciated.
It’s a 20 minute drive into the national forest for some star gazing and we also made day trips to Grand Mesa, Dominguez Canyon, and the Black Canyon.
Could be good one day
Not quite what I expected based on advertising. Have to walk 600 yards from car to camp site, was a bit much. Our campsite was on the fence line with a ton of neighboor dogs barking nonstop.
Sage View Ranch is exactly what we were looking for.
Laurie was very helpful and the spot we stayed in , (thyme), was secluded and allowed us the best Stargazing going.
The nearby town of Paonia was really cool, and had a very good bakery.
Laurie and Scott were very hospitable. For $15/night, this place is a steal. The views from our tent were gorgeous and we were right next to town (Paonia), yet we felt secluded with a short walk to the sites. The sites were very clean which was a breath of fresh air compared to the free BLM sites we have been camping at around CO. Their clean sites have kept away the worry of bears entering the space (they have not had any bear sitings on their property if that’s something you worry about.) When I reserved this site, it had me choose between site 1,2,3,4,or5, and I wasn’t sure which one to choose, but when we got there, Laurie set us up in the site with the best view. We were the only ones camping there when we stayed, July: Tuesday-Thursday. Our site smelled like the sage bushes that surrounded us. There was a communal fire ring and a cozy hammock next to their pond. The toilets were very clean- the composting toilet was the best “public” toilet I have ever used. The outdoor shower, powered with solar, Actually got so hot by the evening! It was awesome. This was a great camping option if you want to stay somewhere near Black Canyon of the Gunnison. Oh, and I can’t forget the cafe and winery right next to their property! They served great breakfast and great wine tasting. Paonia is small, but incredibly artsy. This place is a gem- camp here.
