My wife and I did an overnighter at Briers Ranch and it was exactly what we were looking for. If you enjoy real primitive camping without running water, electricity or restrooms then this is the place for you. There were so many great places to set up camp. We parked the car and hiked to a nice open space surrounded by pine trees. There are very large pine and oak trees all over the camping area. It is a working ranch with cattle so there are cow patties all around. Just watch your step. Gary the host was very accommodating and gave us good directions for finding the place. I hope to go back to the beautiful Briers Ranch again very soon with my daughter. I highly recommend this place if you hate camping at state parks or around other people.

Great little spot, not far from the city (Houston).
It’s a cow pasture with woods on the far end. It was quite an adventure as you have to drive off-road to get to the camping area, which I found enjoyable as I have a 4x4 Tacoma, so it was a fun little excursion through the high grass out to the wooded area. We picked a spot among the oaks and pines, lit a fire right there on the ground, setup our tents and enjoyed the location. Perfect spot for a quick getaway to rough-it, primitive style camping... it was a clear night and the moon loomed large so I was able to get some great views through my telescope !

Great location and easy directions. There is plenty of diversity in scenery, from wide open pastures to forested creek beds. The host is flexible and easy to communicate with. Directions should not be an issue as Gary will provide details - just map it out as you should with any camping trip. No complaints whatsoever. There were also no other campers so it was plenty private.

We got a bit lost but Gary was super helpful and led the way. We were around lots of cattle which was really cool and we found a great spot under some trees. The grass is tall (obviously since this is a ranch) so just be aware if driving a car.

We have a wonderful view of the night sky and the stars were amazing.

We recently took Middle school girlscouts on their first primitive camping trip and this was a great introduction because of the enclosed and private land that had a mix of meadows, trees, and small creek beds. The host went above and beyond being available through phone/text, and even meeting us out there in person. It is a short hike into the property, then there is a small rustic cabin which provides wind shelter, ample meadow space for pitching tents on flat ground, and then plenty of woods to explore and gather wood for campfire. We were able to accomplish all the requirements for the girls earning their Primitive Badges on this working ranch.

Gary and his wife went above and beyond to make sure our Girl Scout Troop knew where we going and that we got there safely. It was a great site for the girls for their first time primitive camping and we were so happy we chose it. We will definitely come back!
