Great for primitive camping!
My wife and I did an overnighter at Briers Ranch and it was exactly what we were looking for. If you enjoy real primitive camping without running water, electricity or restrooms then this is the place for you. There were so many great places to set up camp. We parked the car and hiked to a nice open space surrounded by pine trees. There are very large pine and oak trees all over the camping area. It is a working ranch with cattle so there are cow patties all around. Just watch your step. Gary the host was very accommodating and gave us good directions for finding the place. I hope to go back to the beautiful Briers Ranch again very soon with my daughter. I highly recommend this place if you hate camping at state parks or around other people.
We got a bit lost but Gary was super helpful and led the way. We were around lots of cattle which was really cool and we found a great spot under some trees. The grass is tall (obviously since this is a ranch) so just be aware if driving a car.
We have a wonderful view of the night sky and the stars were amazing.
Quick getaway to primitive camp
Great little spot, not far from the city (Houston).
It’s a cow pasture with woods on the far end. It was quite an adventure as you have to drive off-road to get to the camping area, which I found enjoyable as I have a 4x4 Tacoma, so it was a fun little excursion through the high grass out to the wooded area. We picked a spot among the oaks and pines, lit a fire right there on the ground, setup our tents and enjoyed the location. Perfect spot for a quick getaway to rough-it, primitive style camping... it was a clear night and the moon loomed large so I was able to get some great views through my telescope !
