Tails and Trails Farm is a gorgeous property that sits on 80 acres at the edge of the Irish Hills. We offer a place of healing and support for humans and animals through nature, music, and interaction. Many of our animals are rescues and we use them in a variety of therapies in an effort of healing for human an animal alike. We offer horseback riding lessons, pony rides. You can also tour the farm, meet the animals, and hear their stories. We look forward to meeting you! Learn more about this land: Come and enjoy our farm! Tails and Trails is a small family-owned horse farm in the Irish Hills of southeastern Michigan. Our campsite sits in the middle of 30 acres of private woods. There is a fire ring with room for seating and a separate area to place your tent directly adjacent. There is also another sitting area and plenty of options to hang hammocks. The site is about a 10 minute or .5 mile walk through a beautiful wooded trail from the parking area.  We also offer scheduled horseback trail rides across our 82 acres, for people of all ages. (If you have small children please specify so we can discuss options.) Please send us a message if you are interested to inquire about availability or if there are any questions we can answer.  In addition to the many full-size horses, we also have several miniature horses, miniature donkeys, chickens, 5 dogs, barn cats, and a pot-belly pig. All of which love attention from humans of all ages.  We are a 420 friendly property as cannabis is legal in Michigan. There are 5 dispensaries in Adrian offering both Recreational and Medical cannabis products for sale. If you would like help or advice about the local market please just ask.  This is a pack it in, pack it out campsite. The closest source of potable water is in the barn or about a ten-minute walk from the site.  This is a perfect social distancing campsite however you are still only a 10-minute drive to the nearest grocery store and 20 minutes from some great swimming lakes, kayaking, and small-town allure in the Irish Hills area.  Ann Arbor is also only a 45-minute drive and has a bounty to offer anyone. We are very familiar with the city and can offer advice or suggestions if you'd like. There is a kayak rental in Tecumseh which is about 15 minutes away where you can do an entire river loop and return to the same place thus requiring only one vehicle.  There are also several close lakes where you can drop your own kayak in and explore. If you’d like some more amenities then Walter Hayes State Park or Lake Hudson State Park are both about a 20-minute drive. We have trails throughout the woods and along with our fields for exploring. We welcome guests to wander and enjoy the property while respecting nature and all the things that live here. The area is alive with animals and creatures of all types. Families of deer and turkey call the farm home and don’t be surprised to hear a coyote howl at night. With natural water sources and different types of topography, we are blessed to have a variety of wildlife at our farm. We keep to ourselves however are more than happy to accommodate reasonable requests and appreciate others getting to enjoy the beauty and serenity the country can offer. We welcome all humans of good character that show love to each other and the Earth.

We had an amazing time, Kirsten and William we great hosts! The horse back riding lessons were so much fun.. We saw 5 deer, 10 turkeys and 2 sandhill cranes from the camp site. The campsite was nice and cozy and we will definitely be back again!!

The campsite felt super private so it’s exactly what you want when you wanna be in a primitive and secluded spot all to yourself. It is in the woods so prepare for bugs of course. The main draw is that Adrian and Tecumseh are really cute towns to explore and very welcoming. I was able to take my son to Hidden Lake Garden and The British Pantry Tea Garden which were awesome! We wanted to also visit The Crosswell in downtown Adrian which is the oldest running theatre in Michigan but we did not have time.

I love that it was just as I was thinking it would be, rustic secluded yet 10 minutes from town. The hosts are terrific the animals very friendly my granddaughter loved them all , perfect place if you enjoy rustic and secluded we stayed at the park in site which was nice. Definitely recommend had a great time!

My daughter and I had a blast! The campsite was lovely with spectacular views and plenty of well-cleared trails to walk. It’s far out enough from the rest of the property to feel remote and private without feeling unsafe. The animals were fun especially the donkeys! In the woods we saw deer and toads and all kinds of birds. And the adjacent field made for a great view of the stars. The site itself accommodated our large 10-person tent which was a big relief. Kirsten’s directions and communications were excellent, and her husband was very kind when he introduced us to some of the animals. We will absolutely be back and have been recommending them to everyone we can!

The site and signage could use some love. The site wasn’t very kept and had horse poop around (it’s a horse farm tho) I arrived after dark and had a hard-ish time finding the site. Got turned around on the horse trails (with more horse poop) Was looking forward to a riding lesson but I was not feeling well and had to cancel. Host was responsive and nice.

The entire farm is beautiful. All of the animals there are so friendly, and they all look so happy and healthy. You can tell how much this family loves their animals and how hard they work to care for them. Even though I booked last minute, Kristen did everything she could to make sure that my kiddo got to do the mini horses meet and greet and also the horse riding lesson. Kristen went above and beyond for us. Also, I have never had such a private camping experience before. We did the walk-to site. It was completely secluded from anyone else. There were trails that we could walk through in the beautiful forest on their land. We saw deer, heard coyotes at night occasionally, as well as owls, and other animals. With the walk-to site, although it is a 7 to 10 minute walk to the actual site, we brought a big wagon along with us, and we were able to easily pull it through the trail to bring everything easily to our campsite. There was lots of space at the campsite for all of our stuff. One thing I wasn't expecting on this trip was to become besties with a brown donkey named Mocha. All the donkeys, dogs, and mini-horses were all about getting pets and itchins from everyone. This was an unforgettable adventure for us girls. I know we made memories there that will last a lifetime. Thank you so much Kristen and family for all you do.

So had SO much fun! The camp spot was great. We had the most lovely greeting by a gaggle of doggos, and a piggy!! There were also some donkeys that wonder about (that LOVE attention) that we were were allowed to enaguge with and pet. We paid for the meet and greet with the mini horses, oh my gosh, SO worth it. My niece may never stop talking about it and I throughly enjoyed myself as well. There was a clean porta-potty to use just a short walk from the site as well as water we were allowed to fill up our jugs with (bonus, the tap is in one of the barns and you get to say hi to the piggy when you fill up). It was raining the night before and the day we were leaving, since there were no campers after us, Kirsten was kind enough to let us have a late check out so we could wait out the heaviest part of the morning rain (this definitely helped make my nieces first camping trip end on a high note, instead of packing up in a downpour). 10/10.

I had an incredibly relaxing time camping at the walk to site. It was the perfect distance to be able to make multiple trips, if needed. There were many trails to wander and the smell of the wild roses is indescribable. The hosts were very welcoming and hospitable. I asked them to bring some firewood to the site for me and had I not, I wouldn’t have seen them at my campsite. It was perfectly private. I reached out for a couple local recommendations and they did not disappoint. I had a one hour riding lesson with Kirsten. It was not my first time riding but I learned a lot. I would stay again in a heartbeat. The hardest part was leaving. Or maybe leaving without one of their dogs!!

We stayed at the park at site area and tried our hand at sleeping in our car instead of tent, it went amazing! The trails were so fun to explore, the site felt so secluded, and the animals were so cute! We opted to do a minis meet and greet and had a blast! We will 100% be back to take some riding lessons.

We loved Tails and Trails horse farm!! The campsite was very clean, and the owners couldn’t have been more friendly and kind. they showed us around the property, and we were greeted and escorted everywhere we went by either a sweet farm pup or a donkey! lmao yall, we camped here in below freezing temperatures and STILL had a ball!! my partner is a horse girl so surprising her with a meet and greet with the minis was a highlight of the trip! don’t sleep on this place, kirsten and her homestead is the place to stay when traveling through michigan!

Owners are super friendly And welcoming, loved the dogs and the donkeys that were super friendly and totally made my day and all the beautiful horses, We loved everything about it! We had a secluded campsite in the woods on the edge of the field absolutely beautiful in the morning and evening we had turkeys come through. I even love seeing the horses walk by. It’s really a perfect place to just get away and be by yourselves and unplugged I will definitely go back.!

Absolutely loved spending the weekend hammock camping here! The campsite was the perfect size for our tent, hammocks, and camping chairs around the fire pit. There was another camper staying at the same time but I honestly would never have known if I hadn’t been told because the campsite is so nice and secluded. The farm is gorgeous and all of the animals are incredibly friendly. My spouse and I loved petting the donkeys and horses, and the dogs too! The bathroom is a porta-potty but it is well maintained and we had no issues.

We loved the private site at Kirsten’s. My kids wandered the trails and met the minis, and we took a trail ride which we really enjoyed. Its incredible how well these animals are treated and it shows. There is a 5 minute walk from the parking to the site which we should have been better prepared for but bringing the kids we naturally had more packed and had to take a few trips when loading/unloading. They did have another site on the property but it was far away and I don’t think even within earshot. The porta-potty and water is about a 10 minute walk or you can the 5 minute walk and drive the rest of the way.

The trees provided a nice shade. Woods had nice walking path. Port-a-potty was pretty gross, stinky, and small. Dogs are friendly, youngest is still learning, and is a barker at the moment. Farm animals were friendly. We enjoyed our stay.

Will be back again! Kirsten was so friendly at arrival. Her fur babies were the sweetest. Really love how secluded you feel at the site. They have trails on the property to walk but town wasn’t far when we needed to restock firewood and Ice!

The campsite and property are awesome and Kirsten and her husband are super nice! Unfortunately we had the worst luck with rain and didn’t stay as long as we hoped to. The decision to jet early was in no way related to the site. It was very private, spacious, and the surrounding trails were awesome. We also loved their animals! We would love to come back when we can!

This was a phenomenal place to stay! There are multiple sites throughout the property, but you still feel secluded from them because of where they are located. Kirsten gave incredibly thorough and helpful directions for us to get to camp. The horses and animals were an added bonus to a great camp stay!

Privately perfect! William and Kirsten were great host. Tails and Trails was a perfect 2 night getaway for us. The Horses ,donkeys and puppies were all really friendly and we had a great time grooming a few of them, which was very therapeutic. We cannot recommend Tails and Trails enough. We hope you have a chance to visit and enjoy this place as much as we did. We will be releasing a video of our gracious host and friends at Get Livin on YouTube. We will also be looking for another booking here in the future.

We had an amazing time! The site was easy to access and well maintained. We were able to easily run into town for more firewood and ice when needed too. Even with almost 24 hours of non stop rain, we had a blast. The trees provided coverage just enough where the rain was noticeable but didn’t wash us out. We will absolutely be back to stay!

It’s like being in your own private forest. We had a wonderful stay. It was very peaceful and the hosts were very friendly and helpful. There are plenty of places nearby to get firewood and last minute supplies if needed. One thing I would mention is that it’s about 270 meters from the parking spot to the campsite so be aware of that. (though we loved that feature) We definitely hope to stay here again sometime! A+

My family enjoyed a relaxing weekend at Kirsten’s to their beautiful hike in campsite! This was our second time visiting this location. The campsite is perfect if you’re looking for a private in the woods camping trip. The campsite is very clean and well kept with lots of room and no one else nearby. We booked the meet and greet with the ponies and horseback riding lessons for my kids. Kirsten and her family were so wonderful with the kids and super friendly. I loved watching them teach them how to care for and ride the horses. The trails on the property were well kept and fun to explore! The donkeys are adorable! It was a perfect way to spend the last weekend of the summer with the family. The location is perfect just a few minutes outside of Adrian if you need to run to town for something. Hayes State park is about a 20 minute drive we enjoyed a day there swimming and having fun. Tecumseh, also close by has a very small splash pad for little kids that is free and a dog park. There is also a community center with a swimming pool/splash pad just down the road from this location. My kids are already asking when we can come back! This is an excellent place to camp at.
