Come and enjoy our farm with us! Tails and Trails is a small family-owned horse farm in the Irish Hills of southeastern Michigan.
Our campsite sits in the middle of 30 acres of private woods. There is a fire ring with room for seating and a separate area to place your tent directly adjacent. There is also another sitting area and plenty of options to hang hammocks. The site is about a 10 minute or .5 mile walk through a beautiful wooded trail from the parking area. We do offer our services to bring larger items to the site by utility vehicle upon request.
We also offer scheduled horseback trail rides across our 82 acres, for people of all ages. (If you have small children please specify so we can discuss options.) Please send us a message if you are interested to inquire about availability or if there are any questions we can answer.
In addition to the many full-size horses, we also have several miniature horses, miniature donkeys, chickens, 3 dogs, barn cats, and a pot-belly pig. All of which love attention from humans of all ages.
We are a 420 friendly property as cannabis is legal in Michigan. There are 5 dispensaries in Adrian offering both Recreational and Medical cannabis products for sale. If you would like help or advice about the local market please just ask.
This is a pack it in, pack it out campsite. The closest source of potable water is in the barn or about a ten-minute walk from the site.
This is a perfect social distancing campsite however you are still only a 10-minute drive to the nearest grocery store and 20 minutes from some great swimming lakes, kayaking, and small-town allure in the Irish Hills area.
Ann Arbor is also only a 45-minute drive and has a bounty to offer anyone. We are very familiar with the city and can offer advice or suggestions if you'd like. There is a kayak rental in Tecumseh which is about 15 minutes away where you can do an entire river loop and return to the same place thus requiring only one vehicle.
There are also several close lakes where you can drop your own kayak in and explore. If you’d like some more amenities then Walter Hayes State Park or Lake Hudson State Park are both about a 20-minute drive.
We have trails throughout the woods and along with our fields for exploring. We welcome guests to wander and enjoy the property while respecting nature and all the things that live here. The area is alive with animals and creatures of all types. Families of deer and turkey call the farm home and don’t be surprised to hear a coyote howl at night. With natural water sources and different types of topography, we are blessed to have a variety of wildlife at our farm.
We keep to ourselves however are more than happy to accommodate reasonable requests and appreciate others getting to enjoy the beauty and serenity the country can offer.
We welcome all humans of good character that show love to each other and the Earth.

I want to give a huge shout out to Kirsten and Billy... on the first night we arrived it was pouring rain. We were offered a space to pitch our tent that allowed cover from the down pour. So considerate. Such a down to earth site. The trails were rich with gorgeous colors during this Fall season. There were so many beautiful horses. You can tell the land is loved and in return the land radiates with health.
☀︎ We absolutely loved our stay and Kirsten's and Billy's property. Hosts are super easy to communicate with, give you your privacy but are also really caring at the same time.
The property is beautiful, and the site is hidden in the woods, a short 5-10 minutes hike from the parking spot and pretty far away from any buildings. You get a backcountry feel without the necessity to travel far.
It's a perfect spot for a weekend getaway ☀︎
*bug-wise: be prepared for some mosquitoes, but we haven't seen a single tick :-)

I had a great stay. We got to see the Donkeys and Chickens running around. Kirsten was super nice and helpful and there were nice trails to hike around the farm.
We had a great stay. Kristen was wonderful with my two year old daughter by showing her how to interact with the animals. My daughter had a blast. Kristen and Billy take great care of of their property and animals. We look forward to visiting again in the future. ** bring mosquito repellent**
My daughter and I had a great time with Kristen and Billy. We were able to take a horse riding lesson as well as a trial ride. Kristen is an excellent teacher and their property is amazing!

This is such a gorgeous hidden gem in the "irish hills" area of Michigan. Our host did an awesome job directing us towards local lakes, beaches, and kayaking rentals. We spent some time at Hayes State Park, and Tecumseh Paddling. Ann Arbor is also less than an hour away and worth a day trip.
The short hike to your camp makes it feel like a mini adventure. The trail is fairly well maintained and marked clearly, but I would recommend wearing hiking shoes due to random surprise roots and prickers. Along the way you'll spot a variety of fungi and reptiles, and you'll realize how untouched and private this land is. We were amazed how large the campsite was, with an eating area, a firepit and a designated mulched tent spot. It was very well maintained and felt like it was a primitive site in a national park, just with total solitude and privacy.
We never had the pleasure of meeting our hosts, but they were quick to respond via text and were kind enough to bring us firewood when we forgot to ask for it earlier! The only thing that would have made this site more perfect would be logs for sitting around the fire, and if the trees were cut back a bit so you can see the stars. Other than that, we loved it and can't wait to come back again and again! Thanks!!

One of the best camp sites we’ve ever stayed in. Easily. And that’s saying a whole lot. Total privacy in a beautiful, wooded spot. There is a short, and very sweet, walk in the woods to get to the site. Everything is marked out beautifully - the fire, tent and eating areas. Kirsten was terrific about being in touch and making sure we had what we needed. I’m not sure there’s a way to improve on this site. It’s just lovely. Bring a folding chair, if you can, to sit by the fire
The site was absolutely amazing and we recommend 100%. Such an amazing campsite and Kirsten and Billy were incredibly nice and helpful. We rode horses, hung out with minis, donkeys, and met our first house pig. Can’t wait to go back!
