What was once a man-made mistake is now a geological wonder known as Georgia’s “Little Grand Canyon" and it definitely deserves a visit. Hike, rock climb, picnic your way through Providence Canyon State Outdoor Recreation Area to see the colorful rock walls jutting as high as 150-feet above the canyon floor. Once all the day trippers go home get the place to yourself by camping at one of few the backcountry campsites along the trail, definitely the way to go if you can pack light and carry your gear. These campsites are a rad way to experience the park like a VIP.

Absolutely stunning. It stands as a warning to all about the hazards of poor land management, yet, there is a stark beauty that isn't seen elsewhere in the southeastern United States. The canyon provides plenty of elevation for a great hike. There are streams and forests of amazing beauty. There are primitive group and hike-in sites which are popular with Scouts and other avid campers. It's worth checking out Florence Marina if you want more facilities but easy access to the canyon. Bundle up well in the winter. It can drop below freezing.
