Description

Adjacent to the Fishlake Scenic Byway, Mackinaw Rec Site will start off with a beautiful and memorable drive. You won't have to walk too far to make it to a body of water for some relaxing fishing, either. Hiking and nature lookouts are a staple, and if you come during the right time of summer you may even get the chance to take part in an outdoors visitor program provided by the park. Or shirk it. It's your vacation after all.

Campsites are well kept and enough trees offer plenty of privacy between campsites. You are a 3-5 min walk from the water. It’s beautiful.

This was one of the most magical campsites I have stayed at. I didn't even realize this is where Pando was until I was driving in, and I've wanted to see the aspen clone for years. The most pleasant surprise I've gotten!

This is a nice spot to view fall aspen color. By later September the lodge and most all other campgrounds had shut down; this one only had a couple loops open and the showers were off. It too would shut down by first snow. No one even collected payment, and only three sites were occupied. There were more deer than campers, and the whole lake area was empty save a few hunters. Yet the aspens were gorgeous. Sneak in late as you can if you want your own lake and campground, and great fall colors.
