Description

Imagine waking up nestled within a beautiful rock formation, spending the day bouldering and exploring adventurous hiking ground, and falling asleep under the clearest sky you’ve seen in decades. This is the experience at the first-come, first-served Squaw Flat Campground, which is probably why you need to arrive ASAP in the AM to snag one of its popular sites. If you’re willing to bear the weather for availability, visit in the summer when daytime temps level in the 100s or in the winter, when the nights approach the 20s. Just think of it as part of the adventure.

Make sure you stow your food away properly when sleeping or away from the campsite. Make sure it’s in a sealed compartment hanging from a tree. Even crows here have been known to open zippers.

Squaw Flat is one of the best public campgrounds I've stayed at! Beautiful, peaceful, clean and surrounded by rocks you can easily climb to admire the view. It's well located to explore the amazing Needles district of the incredible Canyonlands National Park. There is potable water but no showers.
