Visit our farm and feel ocean breezes, smell the salty air, hear the calls of owls, doves, and our ‘friendly fowl’, turkeys, ducks and chickens.  Stroll the property (the orchard, see what we have planted in the field, seasonal high tunnel, pollinator meadow), help us with chores, sit around the communal campfire circle, take a historical tour with us, visit a local praise house, discover Gullah culture and traditions.  We can show you our favorite fishing spots, where we volunteer in the community, teach you a few traditional Gullah/Geechee songs, and share our stories.  Participate in events on the farm but most of all relax and enjoy being nestled in the woods of Morning Glory Homestead Farm.

We are Tony and Belinda Jones of Morning Glory Homestead, a small, 12.4 acre, sustainable farm.   We returned to our family property to raise our five children and begin farming after Tony served 20 years in the military.  We are nestled in a beautiful, subtropical, wooded area filled with Live and Water Oaks draped with moss, tall Loblolly Pines, magnificent glossy Magnolias, American Sweet Gum trees and fragrant Wax Myrtles.  Our farm is on a tract of land that was at one time the McTureus Plantation, later bought by the Coffin Family and is a short drive to Coffin Point Plantation.  Currently, we offer two sites. One is nearer the farm house and our field while the other is along the trail deeper in the woods.

The beach at Hunting Island State Park is only 5 miles away and there are wildlife viewing areas and boat landings all around the island.  The Lowcountry is great for water sports, kayaking, boating, jet skiing, sailing and canoeing.  Each season offers an opportunity to participate in fishing, crabbing, shrimping or digging for oysters in local waters.  Explore the waters of the ACE (Ashepoo, Combahee and Edisto)  Basin, the Port Royal Sound which is the estuary of bodies of water including the Broad and the Beaufort Rivers.

Our area is a favorite of cyclist groups, the long, flat, rural, scenic, roads offer pleasant riding experiences for cyclist of all ability levels.  There are bike lanes on many of the major roads.  These roads double as great areas for hikers to explore the local historical buildings, flora and fauna.  Other recreational activities in our area are geocaching, horseback riding, tennis, golf, rock climbing wall, beach volleyball, beachcombing, and birdwatching.

While here you can enjoy historical tours of Beaufort County’s earliest years of the Santa Helena colony in the mid 1600’s, the revolutionary war period, the pre-civil war and plantation time period and the antebellum, reconstruction history up to the Civil Rights visits of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. at the Historic Penn Center.  In January 2017, several historical locations in Beaufort County were established as the Reconstruction Era National Monument to include Darrah Hall on the Penn Center Campus, Brick Baptist Church both on St. Helena Island only a few miles from our farm.

It’s hard to say when is the best time of year to visit.  There are a few special events throughout the year, Gullah Festival-May, Water Festival-July, Shrimp Festival-October, Beaufort Food Truck Festival-October, Soft Shell Crab Festival-April, Pat Conroy Festival-November, Heritage Days Festival-November, Night on the Town-December.  There’s something for everyone.

We spent a restful, quiet night at Friendly Foul Farm, surrounded by trees. Enjoyed a pleasant chat with Tony, the owner, who brought us our loaf of delicious and substantial bread, freshly baked by Belinda. We had no problem with mosquitos or sand flies, but I suspect they would be a problem in the summer-just an FYI. All in all a lovely stop in our travels.

Staying at the Friendly Family Farm was quite a treat…come hungry order Belinda’s fajita, fresh veggies and calorie splurge on the Tony’s cinnamon buns or Belinda’s sweet potato pie which I have yet to try. The farm animal are great. Loved the early morning cheer by the roosters. Although I was up before them… site offered lots of privacy and lots to do nearby. We spent our time at the Penn Center and learned alot! The road in can be a bit rough on the RV but regardless… we will be back.

Terrible ! Definitely top 3 worst camping experiences ever! Started off as soon as we got there! Our site was 2 feet off thr side of a driveway our host shared with 4 or 5 other homes so all day and all night we had people driving basically through the middle of our site since the driveway was literally less than 2 feet from where we were camping. The ad on hipcamp said there was bathrooms and showers available so we naturally assumed they had normal shower/ toilet accessibility since it wasn't specified any different. They had a chemical toilet in a small " bathroom t

This was our first ever experience camping in a tent. Tony and Belinda are wonderful people with a beautiful farm. We bought the vegetable package and rented the grill. We made amazing grilled vegetables that the family grew on their farm. The locatiin was perfect and you could see ao many beautiful stars at night. The roosters let you know sunrise is occurring amd that all is right with the world. We will definitely be back. Thank you so much.

I was able to check out the site but couldn't stay because I was asked fill-in that night for work. I didn't have enough cell signal to connect my laptop to my MiFi, so I needed to make other arrangements. The site is perfect...to me. Off the grid and quiet. I will be booking again to actually stay.
