A place carved out of history dating back over 200 years ago. This is where history welcomes you to the Cherokee culture. This land has been handed down for generations and has stayed in the family beginning on my mother’s side of the family, Mary Ann Groundhog, the fourth generation great granddaughter of Sequoyah on the “Dick” side of my family tree. My mother was heavily involved with AIM (American Indian movement).
My dad was the last monolingual Cherokee. His name was Mack Vann, he was a man who loved culture and sharing it with visitors and handed down that passion to me. My hip camper site is named after my daddy, I am still a daddy‘s girl. The land originated before Sequoyah. who created the Cherokee syllabary. Sequoyah was my fifth generation great grandfather and I am very proud of my Cherokee heritage, I would love to share my culture, my tradition, and my passion with you.

The BEAR'S DEN cabin is a 1 room 1 bathroom cabin. Built to sleep 4 with a spacious queen bed perfect for falling asleep on, a cozy twin bed for reading/sleeping, and stowed under the twin bed is an adventure cot for that outside nap on the deck. The cabin is equipped with a mini fridge/freezer, a Keurig coffee maker, and a microwave) inverter. In the bathroom we have a metal wrapped 22" deep soaking tub equipped with a rainfall shower head to wash the stress away. No glamping cabin would be complete without a wave activated hand dryer a 43" Wi-Fi connected smart TV and the latest plug ins with USB ports included so you can forget that charging box at home. Folks, I can't recommend Barker Gap and Brian enough. I just completed a couple day stay in Site 1 (just me and my dog), and the grounds were immaculately kept and very spacious, the scenery was gorgeous and the hospitality shown by the host (Brian) was off the charts. If you're visiting Brian's neck of the woods, stay in one of his cabins or do like I did and set up the ol' glamper in one of their 3 RV sites. I make you this promise... you won't regret it. Can't wait to come back, wife in tow this time.

It’s truly a hideaway! From the moment we checked in with the host on Friday, we didn’t see another soul all weekend — and that’s exactly what made it perfect. The peace and quiet here are unmatched. The forest around camp was alive with sounds of nature, and we even had a family of raccoons wander by one evening (so definitely keep your food locked up!).
The views are absolutely breathtaking — sunrise from this site is something you’ll never forget. I captured a few photos from sunrise and even some night shots, and they turned out incredible. This place would be magical in the fall when the colors start to change.
Just like other reviewers mentioned, having a 4x4 or AWD is smart. Our Crosstrek handled it easily, but if it rains, things could get interesting.
If you’re looking for a peaceful, secluded getaway surrounded by nature, Hickman Hideaway is exactly that. We left feeling recharged and can’t wait to come back! 🌲✨
