Here at Camp Tomtuga we are two acres just outside of a very quiet canal town. The Erie Canal is our front yard. The canal boating season is from May - October. The backyard is a local shortline railroad, Genesee Valley Transport - GVT. The train runs mostly just two days a week, all year. Step out and give both a friendly wave.

We are a hard packed base, with only a small area of grass on site #2. Currently that site has no electric but we might be able to run cords over to there. It is about 150ft away from the electrical panel. Site #1 is where the 30amp / 50amp electric outlets are.

I only rent to one group at a time. The other site will be blocked out after you book the first site. You can bring in two campers as ''buddy camping'' on the same campsite or split and use both sites. You will then need to rent both sites. You can also use tents in the grass area, if you brought them with you. Please message me first if you plan to ''buddy camp'' here.

I allow 2nd vehicles as support or also ''toads'' on the campsites too at no charge.

I'm Ok if you show up early from an overnight drive to the site and park in the #2 driveway. If there are not any previous campers onsite, I might let you into the site. Again, please message me first if you plan on doing this.

No bathrooms on the property! You must have self contained units!

Property has electric hookups at site #1 only. No water hookups! No WiFi yet, coming soon! Firewood available for $4 a bundle or bring your own.

Nice small canal town here with local eateries, including two pizza places; two bars and a breakfast lunch spot / laundromat / hardware store / Family Dollar / gas station. We have a veterinary in town too.  All within a short walking distance.

NYS Bike path on the opposite side of the canal, goes from Buffalo to Albany. Some 350 miles.

Also a free NYS Canal boat ramp 1,800ft to the east, on our side of the canal.

So bring your bikes / kayaks / boats / fishing poles. Worms available at the hardware store in town.

We are also open in the winter season, if you are that adventurous. This depends on current snow depth. So you will need to message me before booking. You will also need at least 50ft of 30/50 amp electric cord. Our campers are parked for the winter in front of the power panels and can't be moved. You can park in front of those to plug in.

**Ask about our free camper sticker or buying a Camp Tomtuga T-shirt.

Lots of people asking so, we are 30 miles from Niagara Falls. Very easy ride there and back using NYS Rt 104. This route goes along the Niagara escarpment with lots of farms stands and a few wineries. Way better than Rt 31.

My camp to downtown Buffalo is 38 miles. To downtown Rochester is 51 miles. Lake Ontario Olcott Beach is 17 miles. Letchworth NYS Park 60 miles. Also Lockport is 8 miles to the west and has every major store that you could need.

Thank you

Two acres situated across the road from the Erie Canal. We took the bridge in Gasport, 3 minutes away, crossed the Canal and biked the Erie Canal Heritage Trail.

Our host was welcoming, and a fount of knowledge about the Canal and local history.

Just wait 'til the lights come on at night. We won't spoil it for you. It's a one-of-a kind, must see experience. Highly recommended.

Thanks Karl and Brenda. We have lots to offer folks here in WNY and plenty of biking. I hope you got to the train museum and to your music festival. Also glad you got to see the boats for the Great Loop. Maybe something for you to consider in the future? But come on back anytime. Loved having you here. Thomas

What a great spot! We were looking for a quiet place to stay within an hour of Niagra Falls. This fit the bill perfectly. But the real gem of it all was Tom. He met us at the gate to welcome us and provided a list of things to know in the area, completle with a corresponding map! So thoughtful!!!! If we're ever back in this area, we'll definitely stay here again.

Awe thanks. What a great couple. Nice 5th wheel setup too. Wished I could have spent more time chatting but the Buffalo Bills football game was coming on, sorry I was rushing. Hope you had a great time at the Falls and wish you'd come back here again sometime. I see you got a train visit too. One of the few. Thanks for choosing my place.

A quiet and unique stop that fit our needs. I had been looking for a place close to niagara falls but I'm glad we ended up in the quiet little town of Gasport. Our visit to niagara falls was about 40 minutes away. So, not too bad. We even made a stop at lake Ontario on our way back. Thomas was ready with a map of the area and info with ammenity and food suggestions. He is very friendly and knowledgeable about both the local and surrounding areas/points of interests and happy to share. We enjoyed our time there and would stay there again if we are ever back through that way.

Wow, what a fun bunch they are. Loved having the kids riding their bikes around the property and exploring it. Then to bring their treasures over to show me or to tell me a story around the campfire. Made me think that I should create a bike track or a scavenger hunt somewhere here. Have a safe trip, hope you come back.

A cute property, and despite there being train tracks by it, barely any trains went by. It’s right by a stream that also looks nice. Tom is a great guy and fun to talk to! A great experience!

Thanks again for choosing my camp. I'm glad you got some rest for your trip. lol, yes the train comes by twice a week. I think it had three cars behind it that day or maybe eight. The stream is actually the Erie Canal, relaxing to watch the boats go past. Please stop again and I will get you some more cool spots to stop and look at.

We had a really good time, easy access for a kayak in the canal, and the train was neat to see right from camp. Nice cute town within walking distance to the dollar general. We had a great time, would not hesitate to visit again. Thomas was an excellent host

Thanks Again,
Adam

You are welcome Adam. Again another extremely hot weekend here. So sorry it wasn't a bit cooler. Wish the fish were biting for you but I will see what the magic bait is, I've heard crabs for the walleyes. Book us again anytime.

Thomas was a wonderful host and very knowledgeable. He recommended a great little restaurant for Friday night dinner, Sunrise cafe. And because of lots of rain, offered his awning. And several nearby places to run and get some pictures. The Olcutt Beach antique Carousel was special. Then i got an emergency phone call and advised Thomas i had to leave suddenly. He offered to let me leave my trailer, making it easier to drive over 400 miles and because everything was so wet and muddy, said just leave it where it was and he would move it before his next guest.
His property is still undergoing renovations, but his dream is very doable.
Would definitely like to revisit in a few months or so to see his progress

Thomas was a gracious and interesting host. He has lots of knowledge about the Erie canal and the railroads. He volunteers at the local railroad museum. The Erie canal is right across the street. The dogs loved swimming and just walking along the bank. The site itself is flat and easy to get into. We were the very first hip campers staying here. Thomas is doing a great job!
