Your adventure starts here. Welcome to Longhorn Safari Big Bend, a peaceful desert retreat on 80 private acres in Terlingua Ranch and the perfect basecamp for exploring Big Bend National Park or Big Bend Ranch State Park by day, then experiencing world-class stargazing by night. With no crowds, no noise, and no nearby neighbors, you’ll have room to breathe, reset, and connect to the landscape that makes West Texas unforgettable. Whether you’re here to hike, immerse yourself with wildlife, paddle the Rio Grande, wander ghost towns, or chase sunrise trailheads, this is the ideal jumping-off point. Come prepared, embrace the desert, and enjoy the simple magic of being off-grid with lodge amenities (showers, bathrooms, pool, camp store, and café) just down the road when you want them (some lodge fees may apply). Camp wild, sleep deeply, and wake up refreshed and inspired. This is why we built Longhorn Safari Big Bend, to help you turn down the noise and tune into nature.Longhorn Safari is Your BIG BEND BASECAMP! Turn down the noise and tune into nature on this private 80-acre stargazing retreat with panoramic Chisos Mountain views and some of the darkest skies in Texas. Perched on a scenic rise overlooking the western mountains of our property, Mule Deer Mesa is one of our Primitive Retreat Sites; peaceful, remote, and perfectly positioned for sunrise trails, sunset views, and long nights beneath a billion stars. 🏜️ The site includes a pre-set safari style tent (use it for sleeping, shade, gear storage, or a communal lounge), plus a picnic table and fire ring (please follow all fire ban notices). There are no hookups, but guests have access to showers, bathrooms, a pool (in season), camp store (open 7am-10pm daily), and the legendary Bad Rabbit Café at Terlingua Ranch Lodge just down the road. The terrain is rugged yet accessible; most vehicles can reach the site in dry conditions, while high-clearance or 4x4 is recommended after heavy rain, or the occasional snow. 🏕️ From camp, you’re approximately 3 miles from Terlingua Ranch Lodge, and within easy reach of the adventures that brought you here. For deeper exploration inside Big Bend, Old Marathon Road offers an unforgettable backcountry route, best for adventure-ready rigs and confident drivers. 🦌 Mule Deer Mesa is a place to unplug, explore, and reset. Whether you’re here for hiking, photography, wildlife watching, or pure solitude, the desert will slow you down, silence will open up, and the night sky will take over. 🌵 Other Things to Know: This is an off-grid desert environment so bring water, food, sun protection, and layers. Wind can pick up quickly; please secure any tents and gear brought in with guests. Wildlife is common (observe, don’t disturb). Pack in / pack out everything. Cell service is spotty but available in many areas. Guests have access to Terlingua Ranch Lodge amenities (showers, restrooms, WiFi, camp store, pool, and café). Launch Special: Intro pricing through end of 2025 (Crowd Free / Off-Peak Pricing). Thank you for helping us kick off our first season under the Big Bend sky.
