The Horseshoe House Working Sheep Ranch • Dark Sky Camping • Grass Valley, Oregon Welcome to Horseshoe House, a peaceful working sheep ranch in the heart of Oregon's wheat country. If you're looking for quiet nights, wide-open spaces, spectacular sunsets, and some of Oregon's darkest skies, you've found them. Our dry campsite sits on 10 acres just outside Grass Valley, surrounded by rolling wheat fields and panoramic views that stretch for miles. Wake to the sounds of sheep and chickens, spend the day exploring, and end the evening beneath a sky filled with stars. Our family's roots in this country go back more than 100 years. My great-grandfather came from Tennessee in the early 1900s and settled here as a sheep rancher. Today we're proud to continue that tradition and share a little of rural Oregon with our guests. You're welcome to meet our sheep, pigs, chickens, and other farm animals while enjoying the slower rhythm of ranch life. We're always happy to recommend scenic drives, fishing, ghost towns, local history, rockhounding areas, and hidden places that many visitors overlook. Horseshoe House is an ideal basecamp for exploring Cottonwood Canyon State Park, the John Day, Deschutes, and Columbia Rivers, Shaniko, Antelope, fossil beds, pioneer cemeteries, and the scenic backroads of north-central Oregon. Our Vision Horseshoe House is growing into more than a campground. Our goal is to become a place where guests can experience the authentic landscapes, history, geology, and ranching traditions of Central Oregon. Future offerings may include: • Rockhounding Safaris • Working Ranch Tours • Ghost Town & Pioneer History Tours • Winter Livestock Feeding • Guided Fly Fishing • Sunset Photography Tours • Farm-to-Table Dinners • A Ranch Farm Stand featuring local products and Oregon rocks & minerals Whether you're chasing dark skies, exploring the Oregon Outback, or simply looking for a peaceful place to unplug, we'd love to welcome you to Horseshoe House. Stay the Night. Experience the Real Oregon.Camp Jefferson is a peaceful, flat campsite on our working Oregon high-desert ranch, with sweeping views of the John Day River breaks and the Blue Mountains. Watch sheep grazing across the land and keep an eye out for elk, pronghorn, deer and our resident raven family. You may even get a visit from Chili the Kunekune pig. The site offers wide-open country, extraordinary sunsets, dark skies and views stretching for miles. It’s a quiet place to relax, watch wildlife, photograph the landscape and enjoy the stillness of Eastern Oregon.
