Best for self-contained campers. There are no toilets, showers, or potable water at this Hipcamp.
Farley’s Farm Sanctuary is a grassroots 501c3 nonprofit animal sanctuary located on 5 acres in Swanton, OH. The campsite is located in the heart of the woods. This is a hike in primitive camp site (about 1/4 mile walk depending where you park) . We have a wagon and wheelbarrows available for use for hauling stuff back to the site. All money raised from this camp site goes back into building our sanctuary and provides ongoing care for our rescued animals! Oak Openings Metropark (including HEAVY Brewery) is located less than 5 miles away and offers a plethora of outdoor activities. Also located nearby is Johnston’s Fruit Farm (apple picking, pumpkin patch, fresh cut flowers, etc.) Tano’s Pizza (we recommend V-6 without cheese plus breadsticks no parm) and China Garden (vegetable tofu!) will deliver food here. The campsite includes a fire pit and composting toilet!Pitch your tent on the cleared area behind the fire pit. There is a composting toilet available that includes instructions for use posted on the wall. Feel free to have a fire! A few chairs and a table are available at the site. You will be surrounded by trees! The campsite is located off of a loop trail in the middle of the woods.

Melanie was incredibly lovely and hospitable, and the campsite is in a private and beautiful part of the woods in Farley’s Farm Sanctuary. You can hang out with the animals in the sanctuary itself - there are many chickens, cats, turkeys, ducks, peacocks, bunnies, and cows (and Willie, the dog) to meet. They are all incredibly friendly, sweet, and full of personality. Melanie was gracious and lent us her lighter for the campfire, and an extra blanket for the night. If you are looking for activities to do, you can volunteer at the sanctuary and get to know the animals and their backstories, and enjoy their company.

Highly recommended!! The whole experience of meeting rescued animals and camping in woods was truly amazing. Melanie was super friendly and saved me after giving me some cardboard and paper to help me start the fire :)

Melanie was a great host and so accommodating to our late evening arrival. She also went above and beyond to help me out when i encountered some poison ivy. The animals are wonderful as is the mission of the sanctuary! Great place to spend the night, very peaceful yet still close to I-90 for travelers.

We had an amazing time tent camping on Melanie’s land, everyone was so so friendly and the animals were all very cute and friendly!!! the site was in the woods and very secluded, and only a short walk from the driveway- also they provided a wagon to carry over your gear! would definitely recommend this campsite :))

I loved tent camping in this magical oasis where I was serenaded by the sweetest cows, saw a sand hill crane flying and calling overhead while hiking luscious trails in the woods, and witnessed a flock of wild turkeys in a neighboring field as I watched the sunset over the flooded field! Melanie went above and beyond in welcoming me, ensuring I had access to all the supplies needed, and this getaway was the perfect springtime reset for me to dwell in the woods and restore my soul.

Melanie’s farm rescue is a beautiful place. The camping spot is perfect and secluded with a nice flat, soft tent space. Just a couple minute walk from the car. We enjoyed our stay and were grateful for the hospitality.

Husband and I needed a night away from the city and the toddler! This was the perfect setting we had a great host who introduced us to the many lovely creatures critters and friends that live on the property. It's a working rescue and very welcoming. It was a great little hike back to the campsite and it was all perfect for what we needed.

I actually did not make it to Melanie’s because of traveling challenges, however she was very understanding and more than gracious offering me a refund and safe travels. I hope to visit her and the camp in the future. Many thanks Melanie, -Jenny

Nice remote site. It was wonderful talking with Melanie and seeing her pride and passion for the work and critter care she provides. As a great host, she gave me a heads up on the mosquitoes on site due to the recent rains. It was no more than I had at home and they had a good supply of fire wood to keep them at bay.

I loved camping here! The campsite is an easy walk from where you park your car—enough that it feels secluded but not so far that it's a hike. Getting to spend time with the animals was such a lovely bonus and I'm still thinking about the turkeys who followed me around so they could get petted. Melanie was so welcoming and friendly and I hope to be back soon!

I really enjoyed my stay on Melanie's land! The campsite was spacious, but also secluded. I heard and saw a lot of wildlife while I was there! Walking through the farm animal sanctuary to get there was great, too.

My partner and I had a wonderful stay here! The site feels secluded, with plenty of level room for a good sized tent and space for a hammock. We met one of the hosts (Eric I think?) on the way in and he was very kind and helpful! I loved seeing all the chickens on the way in as well, it made my day! We’ll definitely be back!
