Where do I even start?! Jim’s property is a little slice of heaven! And Jim and Apollo (puppy dog) are the absolute best hosts you can imagine. I’ve never stayed at a Hipcamp with this kind of magical experience. I last minute asked if I could stay and he was so accommodating. Jim goes above and beyond making sure you feel comfortable, safe, and welcomed. It’s true southern hospitality. Do NOT miss an opportunity to stay here.
I tent camped, there is a bathroom and boat house close by that has hot and cold water. Every amenity you could ask for. It’s a short walk to the beach and you’ll feel like a part of the neighborhood/family so quickly. I can’t wait to return. Thank you Jim and Cary for the most wonderful time. It was the sweetest trip out to the coast I could’ve ever dreamed of. See you all this fall! ☺️

Apollo’s Hideaway
James was a fantastic host! This hideaway is truly a gem and a super hip camp!!! Many accommodations and if you forget anything James can likely help! Apollo was equally an awesome host. Thank you both. We will be back!
James was so sweet and helpful, gave me a tour and made sure all my questions were answered and needs were met. Everything about the area is amazing. I woke up every morning to a beautiful river that winds right down to the ocean, flanked by shady trees all the way. The minnows here were so fun to watch- even they seemed happy to be here, practically dancing atop the water. The beach is a short quiet walk down the road. I met crabs, birds, frogs, even a turtle! Woke up early one morning to the see the sunrise over the waves, and with the sea grass swaying with the tides it was just incredible.
The sites are all well stocked and quiet, theres even fire extinguishers! And the firewood was complimentary too. Plenty of spots around the area to sit and watch the stars (incredible view of the night sky btw, the milky way was visible!) and there’s lots of charming decor and pretty string lights. Really cozy all around, and James is just the sweetest guy. He gave me a few recommendations for what to do in the nearby town, so one of my days i went exploring Beaufort and had a lovely time. Lots of cool ships and neat little shops to explore!
Apollo is one of the friendliest chillest dogs i’ve ever met, loved getting to pet him in the mornings. This place is a really good deal for the price- kayaks were free to use (and so much fun) complimentary wifi and firewood, location is amazing, not to mention free shower! All around, I had a truly incredible time and i’m sad to have to leave!
We loved camping in our van at Apollo’s Hideaway. If we could give more than 5 stars we would. The property is beautiful and a short walk to the ocean, which is a truly wonderful place to take a walk. We travel in our 18 ft adventure Ford Transit Van. It was easy to hook up to electricity. There is potable well water for dish washing right at the site as well. The bath house is so cool & located in the boat house. The owner & his dog Apollo are highlights of the spot! Truly a kinder duo can’t be found. Highly recommend & know you will love your visit to Beaufort.
We recently stayed at Apollo’s Hideaway through Hipcamp for an overnight stop before catching the Cape Lookout ferry, and it was exactly the kind of camping experience we enjoy. We stayed with our pickup truck and teardrop camper, and the host could not have been more welcoming and accommodating.
The property has a rustic, laid-back vibe with plenty of open space to choose where you want to set up. It sits right along the canal, and the host even took the time to walk us down to the beach, about a 10-minute walk away, while sharing local history and stories about the area. That personal touch made the stay even more memorable.
We enjoyed a peaceful dinner outside our camper and appreciated having electric and water hookups available. We did have a little trouble connecting our electric at first, but the host immediately stepped in and helped us come up with another solution without hesitation.
The bathroom and shower setup fit the whole Hipcamp atmosphere perfectly — simple, functional, and rustic with hot and cold water, a flushing toilet, and more of an outdoor feel than a traditional indoor bathroom.
If you’re looking for the Ritz-Carlton, this probably isn’t your place. But if you want a true outdoor Hipcamp experience with a few amenities that make camping easier and more comfortable, you will absolutely enjoy staying here. We would gladly stay again.
