The home was built by my parents in ‘82. My Mom was an avid hiker and outdoors person. She collected and planted agave pups in the yard and tended to them over the years. Because they’re watered and the pups are removed each spring they continue to grow to mammoth size. Once they bloom the plant dies. 3 have bloomed, producing 40’ stalks. Agave Americana. The property is 4 miles from the town of patagonia, just 2 miles in from highway 82. Patagonia lake state park is 9 miles away. The property is 4 miles from the town of patagonia, just 2 miles in from highway 82. Patagonia lake state park is 9 miles away. There is a hammock & picnic table in the upper yard surrounded by mammoth agave plants and oaks. There is much info online for visitors to this area. There are 2 sites available but I prefer not to rent them simultaneously, unless the groups are together since they’re very close together. ( not much privacy). (If you have a dog that adamantly chases cats with killer instinct , this could become a problem. ) Thank you!

Shhh…did you hear that? No? Exactly. That's the sound of silence — and it was glorious. My stay at Thousand Oaks was wonderfully peaceful, and hosts Cindy and Steve made it even better: communicative, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. As a birder, I was in absolute heaven. The property is surrounded by trees alive with birds. Just a partial list: Blue Grosbeak, Bridled Titmouse, Lucy's Warbler, Gray Hawk, Painted Redstart, Summer Tanager — and that's just the beginning. You're also only 15 minutes from the Nature Conservancy and the Tucson Bird Alliance's Paton Center for Hummingbirds, making this a dream base camp for any serious birder. And then there's the charming town of Patagonia itself — groceries, the wonderful Red Mountain Foods, and the Velvet Elvis for a genuinely gourmet lunch or dinner. Will I be back? Without question.

This is a beautiful spot tucked back into a canyon of many, many live oaks with some chaparral, and few cacti and manzanita. There's a nearby short hike up to a narrow rocky canyon that is other worldly. As described in the listing, it doesn't seem like southern AZ. Also it was very quiet.

Beautiful, peaceful campsite. A spectacular walk in Flux Canyon was nearby. Cindy, our host was friendly and helpful. The site is close to her house, but we felt we had sufficient privacy. A few vehicles passed by the road along our campsite, but overall, it was quiet.

Great spot, great host. Very private spot that we were able to get our 20 foot travel trailer into. Nice having water and electric. Our go to spot now when we visit Patagonia. You can hike right from your camper.

A nice quiet spot nestled in majestic trees. The hosts were very friendly and accommodating. The road to get to the site does have some low trees and it is a dirt road so just be mindful of that. If you aren’t good at backing a trailer and parking you may have difficulty getting into the spot if you have a large rig. We did it with a 45ft setup including our tow vehicle but I wouldn’t want to go much larger than that here. Overall it was a great weekend getaway close to the town of Patagonia and some nice trails nearby.

We had a beautiful time at Thousand Oaks. It’s well away from the main rd so zero noise, and nice dark skies. Nice walkable canyon hike took me along a little burbling creek, had it all to myself. The host was very helpful and friendly and gave excellent directions into this very rural & secluded site. A easy e-bicycle ride up to Patagonia for exploration and good food. Will be happy to return!

Great host. Great place for dogs although there are dogs from down the road that sometimes visit at night. Best thing is the privacy and you're only about 3.5 miles from the small town of Patagonia. Worst things are 1.5 miles of somewhat rough dirt and rocky road. Getting into and out of the property was very difficult with a 25 ft travel trailer and standard pickup due to limited space to maneuver. In my opinion, a 19 ft trailer should be the limit. Vans and motorhomes up to about 30 ft should have no problem. Electric was from an extension cord and powered our single ac unit with no problem but we made sure to not use the electric water heater, microwave or electric griddle while the ac was on. Overall we were very satisfied with our 4 day stay but it isn't for everyone.

We wanted someplace quiet and peaceful. We found it at Thousand Oaks. Steve and Cindy were fantastic hosts. Cindy recommended a hike nearby and it was a beautiful, fun little jaunt. The night sky was beautiful and did I mention, it was quiet!

Great host and neat location outside of Patagonia. We absolutely loved our stay! We have a low clearance camper van and had no problems on the dirt road. Our host was kind and made us comfortable. We look forward to returning.

The place is absolutely beautiful and peaceful! Cindy, the host is friendly and helpful, giving us directions ahead of time. We had a great time last weekend with our dogs and cat. Patagonia was 10-15 degrees cooler than Tucson but we still needed AC so the electricity was handy. The camp site was private and we felt safe even it's right by a road. The neighbors waved when he drove passed and that's really nice. The gate to the property is tight but we got in with our 22 ft truck and 22 ft trailer (I misread the instructions). So definitely follow the 34 ft total length recommendation.

Peaceful Patagonia Camping

This is a beautiful, quiet property outside Patagonia. There is a large area for tent or RV camping that is level and has trees around it. The is also a gulch near by with a rich mining history, and beautifully colored rock. We hope to go back again sooner than later.

We loved our stay at Thousand Oaks! Shady (a rarity in AZ), quiet, peaceful, water & electricity - who could ask for more. It’s close to Patagonia, an artsy little town with great birding. Cindy is a great host - hope we can return one day!

Cindy is a wonderful host. Her brother Steve helps her with the listing. The area is quiet and beautiful. The electrical hook up is a heavy duty extension cord not a 30 amp plug. We had a wonderful time hiking and biking around the canyon and in Patagonia. Cindy was very helpful and kind. I would visit again.

Steve’s place was perfect. Pin drop quiet aside from wildlife that made the experience EXACTLY what we were looking for. His sister Cindy was absolutely delightful to talk with and went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we might need. Would absolutely recommend this spot☺️

Gem of a spot under large trees

If you want to visit Lake Patagonia or just Patagonia itself, this camping spot is a little gem. It is tucked away beneath beautiful trees on private property with a friendly host. There was a portable fire pit that we used to roast marshmellows. It is well shaded for most of the day but can get warm as the sun sets. There was plenty of room to spread out and they provided a very nice table and four chairs for eating/relaxing/games. There is electric if you need to plug anything in (we used it to blow up our air mattress). There is no toilet so if you are tent camping, you will need to bring your own and be prepared to pack everything out. The lake is not far from the site, maybe 10-15 minutes, and in Patagonia proper (just about 5 minutes away) there is a small market that opens at 5am and offers necessary items (and some not so necessary - such as beer/wine and a selection of liquors). A wonderful breakfast/coffee shop called the Gathering Grounds opens at 8am on weekends and makes good coffee, breakfast and lunch! This camping spot really made our trip. It was beautiful, a little off the beaten path, very quiet and safe. We also saw deer in the area and squirrels. Highly recommend.

The camping spots are within view of the house; this was not an issue, as the host will respect your privacy. A road is next to the camping spot, but traffic is minimal (only three cars pass within 24 hours). The host was fantastic. We had a great time and would stay there again. There are no bathrooms; hence, you must have a portable potty.
