Welcome to a treasury of rock art and archaeological sites relating to the Fremont Indians. This culture thrived 1,000 years ago, and pictographs and petroglyphs remain.
Gaze at beautiful Clear Creek Canyon to appreciate why the Fremont culture chose to settle here. The surrounding mountains also add to the mystique of the place.
Start your explorations at the visitor's center. Thousands of artifacts are preserved here. Archaeologists discovered them during the construction of nearby Interstate 70 highway. Pottery, baskets, and arrowheads show a vibrant hunter-gatherer culture.
Hike through the park to find out what life was like for the Fremont. Guided tours take you to the pictographs and petroglyphs. Ancient artwork on the canyon walls somehow survived a millennium of wind, rain, and snow.
