Beaver Lake State Park

Located on the west shore of the 968-acre lake, Beaver Lake State Park is flush with scenic views and 283 acres of gentle rolling prairie lands. Summers draw an influx of visitors for water recreation, and the trails here support hiking, mountain biking, and snowshoeing. This park is listed in the Bird Watchers Guide Book as a primo spot in North Dakota for bird watching. Species found include grebes, pelicans, cormorants, whistling swans, hawks, herons, bitterns, sandpipers, gulls, terns, kingbirds, warblers, and goldfinches. Nearby attractions include the Lawrence Welk Home, Whitestone Battlefield State Historic Site, Slade & Long Lake National Wildlife Refuges, and golfing. Word to the wise: don’t rely on GPS to get to the park. Go old school and follow the road signs.
