Once a main railway for lumber in Hancock County, this 24-acre property along Bayou LaTerre, acquired in 2010, is home to a small variety of animals, edible landscaping including multiple varieties of fruit trees and seasonal vegetable gardens. Completely wooded at the time of purchase, the farm is still a work in progress. Daily farm life involves upgrading fences, clearing the 5-acre pasture, building animal pens, installing rain catchment systems, composting, harvesting, canning, baking and our favorite....... feeding the feathered friends. Pitch your tent in our wooded acreage nestled along side a flowing creek bed. Relax on the sand and watch the squirrels play or close your eyes to meditate with the sounds of nature. A true primitive camping experience awaits you. Our goal is to provide an unplugged experience for you to unwind and get back to nature so you can release the stress of everyday and enjoy the nature and serenity of our little farm.

Welcome to Soultribe! A new community-in-the-making in the heart of the sweet south of Mchenry, MS - only 24 miles from the white sandy beaches of the Mississippi Gulf Coast (the world’s longest man-made beach)! We bought this property only a few months ago after working hard and long on a decade-long dream come true! It’s a fully wooded, 4 acre L-shaped property, currently home to four residents. Every day we are working hard to cut pathways and new campsites for visitors, travelers, and potential community members. Eventually we will host events, classes, workshops, retreats, and festivals. We are still in the earliest stages of building, so it’s a very rustic, off-grid experience, and with more visitors, we plan to build cabins and install solar and water collection systems, so we can have outdoor showers, natural pools, outhouses, community areas, a retreat center, and shops for community members to run their businesses from. We are following food forest and permaculture methods instead of traditional gardening, and our long-term vision for this land is a new garden of Eden! We need all the help we can get, so we also offer volunteer trade opportunities to anyone interested. Or, if you just need a place to step back from the busy hub of society, ground and reconnect with nature, Soultribe is the sanctuary for you! You may utilize the little spaces we currently have available for camping, or get in touch with your primal nature, explore our woods and cut down your own trail and campsite. We will be present to assist in any way, open to sharing and communal activities - or we can offer you solitude and privacy during your trip… it’s entirely up to you! Come create heaven with us… send your booking inquiry today!

The best camping in Paul B. Johnson State Park, MS guide

Overview

About

Located in the heart of Mississippi's pine belt region, Paul B. Johnson State Park is a natural wonderland! Explore mesmerizing vistas of long-leaf and loblolly pines, delicate dogwoods, and ancient oaks. While you’re in this hypnotic forest you can enjoy southern style barbecues and picnics (food always tastes better when you’re camping), playgrounds, a splash pad, disc golf, and breaking in your boots on the nature trails. If you’re feeling more aquatic, the fresh waters of Geiger Lake offer fishing, boating, and water skiing! At night, head back to camp to pitch a tent, settle into your RV, or rent a rustic cabin in the woods.

When to go

The ideal time to visit Paul B. Johnson State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural beauty is at its peak. Summer months can be hot and humid, while winter brings cooler temperatures that may not be suitable for all outdoor activities.
