Surprise Cove State Marine Park

A gem on the Western side of the mouth of Cochrane Bay, Surprise Cove State Marine Park is one of the most popular places to anchor your boat in Prince William Sound. Visitors can choose from seven campgrounds on various terrains—gravel beach, island wetlands, dry coastline—take your pick! You’ll get great use out of your motorboats, sailboats, and kayaks here. You can also explore the chilly streams, mossy muskegs, rocky beaches, dense forests, and sparkling lakes of the park on foot, so bring your hiking gear. The small town of Whittier is a short drive away, where you can stock up on any supplies you need before heading out on your adventure.
