Imagine looking out the Lisney Grand Log Cabin window and realizing that the landscape has remained virtually unchanged for over 10,000 years! While most of the State was covered and scraped by glaciers of the last Ice Age, this small section of the State was not. Hence, its geology remained intact. Locally this region is known as the “Driftless Area” and encompasses both the Kickapoo Valley Reserve State Park (8,600 acres) and the Wildcat State Park (3,600 acres).In this area, archeologist have discovered a total of 596 sites dating between 10,000 to 12,000 years ago inhabited by ancient people. This includes ancient campsites, farming areas, linear and conical mounds, once-occupied rock shelters and many petroglyphs. And if that’s not enough to wake-up to, then enjoy the fresh air, clean water, the breath-taking views and the daily visits of wild turkey and deer.This Amish built cabin is 1500 sq.ft. and is minutes from hiking, biking, paddling the Kickapoo River, food and beverages as well as world-class trout fishing, snowmobile and horse trails. Lisney Grand is a two story, two bedroom one bath cabin with an additional large sleeping loft. Open floor plan includes a full kitchen, dining area and living space with a cathedral ceiling. The cabin and grounds are filled with original art from artists across the United States (some available for purchase). Enjoy the beautiful sunsets and amazing views of the Kickapoo Valley Reserve State Park (8,600 acres) while swinging on the porch swing located on the porch that wraps around 3 sides of the cabin. The yard contains a picnic table, fire-pit, and direct access to the Kickapoo Valley Reserve and its trails. Our location is about 13 miles from the town of Viroqua, which has a wonderful Saturday morning farmer's market May-October, the renowned Driftless Cafe, and the Viroqua Food Co-op, among other things. The Organic Valley Food Co-op was established in this area in 1988, and the area in known for an abundance of fresh organic 'farm to table' food. The famous 'Driftless Books' is also found in Viroqua, along with live music on Court Street every other Saturday. Music in the Parks also offers live music in the area on Wednesdays throughout the summer.
We are 22 miles from the Kickapoo Valley Reserve, and a bit further North, from Ontario WI, one may embark by canoe or kayak, through some of the most stunning landscape to be found in Wisconsin.
This area is called The Driftless because it lacks glacial drift, which refers to the deposits of silt, gravel and rock that glaciers would have left behind had they passed through this part of Southwestern Wisconsin. The area is unique in that the land here was never flattened by the ice that came through most of the Midwest during the last glacial period/ice age. When glaciers were in surrounding areas, the melt-water sometimes made its way into the Driftless Area and contributed to the formation of the valleys and bluffs which characterize the landscape, which is known for steep hills, forested ridges, deeply carved river valleys, and karst geology with caves and spring-fed cold water trout streams. Ecologically, the Driftless Area's flora and fauna are more closely related to those of the Great Lakes region and New England than those of the broader Midwest and central Plains regions.

The Cabin in a 16x16 one room lofted 6 feet from ground with 2 decks just next to the path to the woods and entrance. It has a queen size bed, large flat screen, wifi, hot pot, mini fridge, outdoor grill and microwave with various kitchen utensils. There is no running water in the cabin but there is a dry sink and compost toilet. A shower is just a short walk away at the main cabin with all the instant hot water that could be asked for. We have plenty of extras to share if you need something, if not a Dollar General is just a mile away. Please be aware there are poisonous plants and various wildlife that roam freely. No animal hunting allowed. We love pets and have adopted ours which roam freely. We’re sorry we can’t accommodate yours for that reason… we can recommend local accommodations for your fur babies.

Weekend Trip to Heart of the Driftless
My partner and I loved our stay at the Heart of the Driftless. The directions were clear and simple. We enjoyed the scenery and lots of amazing wildlife. Karen is such a gracious host, we were arriving a little late into the night and she had started a fire for us so the cabin wasn't cold! Thank you for an amazing weekend!

Yeng was great- solid communication before and after our stay.
While the weather was rought, our family enjoyed the novelty of glamping on the 'ship'. Our accomodations were warm and cozy despite night temps in the 30's, and we loved playing cards and hanging out in the small galley. It was also a plus to have the Dells nearby for activites during a rainy day.

Absolutely would recommend Justin’s Trails. Came in late and was extremely well taken care of. Breakfast was fabulous. Dogs had a chance to exercise after traveling cooped up for a long time l. Great people- lovely accommodations! Ask about the player piano!

Weekend Trip to Healing Hills
Highly recommend this Hipcamp, it's exactly like the photos portray – simple and comfortable. The land and scenery are really something special. Very close to Driftless Music Gardens, about 7 minute drive. On a hot August weekend, it was so nice to have access to AC/fans (and comfy beds!), making it a great alternative to tent camping at the festival. We will definitely stay again, thank you Beth and Pat!

Weekend Trip to Healing Hills
The rustic cabin was just what we needed. Quiet. Peaceful. The bed was comfy. Great place for our dog to run. It’s close to Wildcat Mountain State Park and the Kickapoo Valley Reserve. We hiked, played badminton, and roasted marshmallows. We also had a great time at the Hillsboro Brewery.

Weekend Trip to Heart of the Driftless
We absolutely loved our stay at this cozy off-grid cabin! From the moment we arrived, it was clear how much care and intention went into creating this peaceful little retreat. The cabin was clean, beautifully situated, and had everything we needed to unplug and reconnect with each other and with nature.
The property itself is quiet, private, and full of charm. We appreciated all of the details—solar lights, thoughtful furnishings, and the clear instructions that made everything easy to navigate despite being off-grid. It truly struck the perfect balance between rustic and comfortable.
We also want to express our heartfelt thanks for the kindness and hospitality we received. My partner had some car troubles during our stay, and when we went down to Karen’s property, they graciously let us borrow tools to help us out. That act of generosity meant so much and really speaks to the spirit of this place.
This spot was exactly what we were hoping for: a chance to step away from the noise of everyday life and just be. We’re already dreaming about coming back. Highly, highly recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful, grounded getaway.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Hillbilly Hilton! The cabin was clean, a/c was nice and cold, and bathrooms were close. The host was very responsive and friendly.

What a beautiful and serene spot to spend some time at and enjoy almost only the sounds and sites of nature.
The cabin was cozy yet spacious.
Karen was a most gracious host and very easy to reach. She checked in to be sure all was well, and it all was wonderful!

The pirate ship was so fun for the kids! They found the costumes and props and spent hours in dramatic play. Grown ups got a chance to kick back and enjoy the show. The two cabins have heaters and we were very comfortable overnight.

Beautiful, serene, and quiet spot. We had such a relaxing time and wish we could have stayed longer. Karen's HillTop cabin is thoughtfully built, spotless, and well-appointed. The informational binder is organized, concise, and clear. You can tell a lot of care has been put into both the property itself and the guest experience. Would love to return, and soon!

Weekend Trip to Heart of the Driftless
We had an absolutely wonderful stay at this serene and beautiful campsite. The cabin was exactly as advertised—clean, cozy, and thoughtfully set up for comfort. My wife, daughter, and I spent our days bird watching and soaking in the quiet beauty of nature, and our nights stargazing under a breathtaking sky. It was the perfect escape from the noise of everyday life.
Karen, the host, was fantastic—warm, welcoming, and responsive. You can tell she really cares about creating a great experience for her guests. We left feeling refreshed, peaceful, and already looking forward to our next visit. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a tranquil retreat in nature!
