The original log cabin is still part of the farmstead that originated back in the 1880's.
The site was a family farm until around the 1940s.
Also, the land was the Eastern banks of a large logging mill lake/pond 150 yrs ago, so the shoreline slopes do not allow campers in/out of the pasture areas. A popup would be feasible with a full size 4 wheel drive utility vehicle in river bottom/shorelines. Tents /Low impact camping are best.
In 2019 a transition to Animal Therapy, Fishing Therapy, and Pastured pigs from New Zealand which originally were almost extinct because of their friendly nosey nature at times gets them into trouble.
They graze on open pasture most of the year and rest in the sun next to a trout stream.

We are a working farm with mostly rescued farm animals. Many of the animals have special needs here and live their lives as free-range animals. The river in the back is home to wonderful Brown Trout and smallmouth bass. Also at times, there will be a couple dogs being trained and worked with too. You select your location for your primitive camping experience. If any special needs for a person arise, such as cane, charcoal grill, camp lantern We keep a small shed with supplies even items like tarps, cots, sleeping bags, even fishing rods. The owner is a highly achieved angler that has been filmed for the "Discover Wisconsin" Television TV show. and is available for guided fishing adventures and education in the area for all species. Also, certain times of the year are excellent for wild plants and mushroom foraging. Note this is the Driftless area of Wisc. where no glaciers came through. We have bluffs and streams around every curve of the road. The Wisc. Rivers very close too and has great fishing as well. The neighbor of this farm also rents and performs livery service for kayaks, canoes on the Pine River. Many times of the year, fresh meats are sold right at the farm as well as homemade fishing lures ready for fishing adventures.
Note: Many times I am at the river fishing or in the pasture planting and reforesting this former GMO corn farm after years of heavy spraying. With Maples, Willows, apple, pear, plum, oak while trying to manage the evasive plants too.
Please understand rainfall, safety of small rivers/waterfront changes. If river front takes on water, camping is all moved from water edges.
We do not allow any camper over 15 feet and you must have vehicle that can get through wet mowed fields if it rains since we are along a river/wet lands, if it were to rain we move vehicles to higher dry ground if they a low to the ground . We have a gentle sloped hillside here so always dry areas to park.
Other vehicles park at the top of the pasture, in farm front yard and we transport all gear to the river front.
Small low to the ground cars are not wise here as there are 4 rain water trenches in the bottom 10 acres the keep rain water draining to ward the river.

On the back of my farm surrounded by the Pine River is an Oxbow. It is totally natural. Wild grasses, forest river drifts by . This is a totally natural location for tents only. You can drive within 100 feet of the area. As of 15 June the grasses are now 3 feet tall. Two areas close to each other one has 10 x 10 foot clear area where grassed were salted to control growth, the second area is only managed with the occasional use of tents , human anglers, deer, my foraging pigs, maybe a sheep . A fire ring is available. This is only Primitive camping where campers use catholes.

Gary was so warm and welcoming, the property was gorgeous. He was kind enough to show us where we could find wood, and in the morning we took a nice swim in the creek. The pigs (Tommy, mama, and more), horse (matrix), dogs (big one named Togo), and sheep were so much fun to see and interact with. Was a lovely time, can’t recommend enough

We had a phenomenal time staying on Gary’s land! He’s such a nice guy with a plethora of knowledge to share. He had the fire going for us when we arrived and brought us hot coffee the next morning :) The animals were incredible! Many are free roam and we got to encounter several different ones. We felt very safe knowing To Go protects the land and keeps coyotes, etc away. The river is beautiful and quiet. The entrance is through two gates by his house; you can come and go as you please and he’ll meet you when you arrive to get acquainted with the simple-to-use system. It’s close to town and Gary is a great resource for any questions! We would absolutely stay again.

This is a private, spacious campsite, and Rufus and family are great hosts! It's a very natural setting, with a large prarie surrounding most of the campsite. The weather was all over the place on us being hot and humid, with storms and rain popping up at random. We ended up shortening our trip a night just so we didnt have to pack everything up soaking wet the next morning. You have a long distance view of the south sky which made for a really nice light show of storms that were south of us. The exposed south does make it extra hot in the midday sun, so bring some shade in the summertime. We recommend getting the vegetables as well, as they are excellent! Thanks Rufus!

Beautiful private, secluded tent sites at the top of a bluff overlooking the river with a nice big fire ring. Decent little hike to get up there, with plenty of other hiking trails on the land to explore! The land owner Allen is a friendly and helpful guy so that makes things all the more pleasant. My girlfriend and I had a great time and would definitely come back in the future!

Rufus and Joy were absolutely AMAZING! Their property is breathtaking, as is their hospitality. We were taken away by their commitment to their community, promoting knowledge & offering education about their land and what they do, as well as their gardens! They were so friendly when we first arrived and told us about themselves and their farm. They encouraged us to explore their property. The campsite was beautiful, perched on a hill with the prairie & farmstead in sight. The toilet was a simple compost toilet with privacy (bring your own toilet paper 😉). There was a nice offering of firewood available. It is a short drive up the hill (AWD or 4x4 reccomended), and pivate. Unfortunately, we had to end our trip short due to rain/winds that our tent set-up couldn't handle. If there's rain/wind in the forecast, just be sure to make sure everything is tied down, or taken down. The wind comes up over the hill & can be very strong. We 100% 10/10 recommend this site & are making plans to visit again!!!

Great campsite and host! My girlfriend and I stayed here for a long weekend and had a great time. Gary is a kind and considerate person, we loved hearing his stories and he made us feel very welcome. He let us use a wagon for moving our stuff out to the campsite and helped us carry wood out to the site as well. He also brought us hot coffee in the morning, so sweet! Lots of friendly animals, great views and beautiful land! The creek was a little high and muddy from rain while we were here but otherwise it was wonderful!

We very much enjoyed our time on Gary's property. He's very kind and filled with knowledge of the land and history of the surrounding area. Gary and his land are exactly the type of Hipcamp spots I look for. It was so beautiful and perfect. To start, Gary was very communicative from the beginning. When we got stuck in a Chicago standstill and ended up 2.5 hours late just before dark, Gary had already gotten a fire going for us at our site and it was beyond appreciated. Later in the stay, we had an abundance of rain and he helped us get our fwd car to the higher pastures, and picked up our stuff with his truck at the end. Gary has some wonderful and exciting stories in his life, I bet much enjoyed chatting with him, and The animals were so wonderful. The pigs, horse, and sheep are all a delight. Sadly, we didn’t get to experience any fishing as the weather didn’t cooperate. But I guess I’ll have to come back soon and try again! This spot is quiet, serene, and far enough off the path to just hide away for a few days. This certainly became my favorite spot in Wisconsin!
