The natural Shade/Privacy nooks will keep the midday sun off of tents and the surrounding old growth forest makes for a great hike up to a very accessible and kid friendly cave to explore. All sites now have either 10x13, 13x20 or 16x20 shade sails available to keep the afternoon sun at bay. (check individual sites for shade sail size available and in the "extra" section) Throughout the summer, the river offers a user-friendly experience as water levels recede. Embark on float trips, kayaking, excellent fishing, swimming, cave exploring, or visit the historic towns and the Antietam Battlefields nearby for a touch of civilization during your stay. We have two kayaks on site free of charge. We have some life vests, but if you have your own, bring those along. The river's main beach located between sites 7 and 8, is shaded/filtered sun all day long while our smaller beach at site 1 is sunny most of the day and affords some of the nicest river lounging via a rock ledge that spans 4wd or All Wheel Drive are recommended. If it's been relatively dry, single wheel cars are 100% fine. We have ways to mitigate most weather events. Please pre-order firewood via a message to me or via the "extra" section for your site so I can have it waiting for you. $40 buys you a long night's ++ burn worth of well seasoned hardwood. Great location, property steps away from Potomac and C&O canal. Greg was very friendly and available to answer our questions about fishing and locating the cave. Each site has a large shade cover and picnic table Stayed two nights at site one in early October, site one is at the end so would only have one neighbor if sites fill. Plenty of flat grass field space for setting up our usual activities corn hole and playing catch. Nights were very peaceful with sounds of the river, owls, and an occasional howl from Greg’s Wolf pack, lol. I would highly recommend this location. We plan to return with our full crew. Thanks Greg!

This place is truly a hidden gem. The sites are spacious enough unlike your typical State Parks. Just beyond the campsite #1 is a trail leading down to the Potomac River. There were kayaks available if interested. There are some toilets available on the grounds as well. My favorite portion of the stay was meeting Greg’s wolves,,which are gorgeous AND friendly!! Not to mention the serenity the retreat offers along with Greg’s exceptional hospitality he brings to ensure you are okay. I can’t wait to visit the site again!!!

Piece and quite. Greg was great host he helped and answered any questions you had but he also left you alone to enjoy yourself.. We had site 1 and the 2 cats Corky and Tulip stayed with us almost all the time, was great since we didn’t bring our pets along with us. Was truly home away from home

It’s was a lovely spot complete with local cats! The manager was really kind and helpful. The spots got full sun in the afternoon but that meant the mornings were shady. I would suggest brining a bike if you can. Between the campsites and the river there’s a nice bike path.

1 night at John B.’s "The Baker Camp"

John’s camp is a serene and peaceful space to immerse yourself deep into the pen Pennsylvania countryside. I was driving from New York to California and quit the turnpike because of the crazy rain. I was in my class B 22 foot airstream and drove in & out very easily and was able to hook up to a 30 amp outlet which was great. There is a pavilion with a fridge, there is an outhouse, but I was fully equipped in my van and just wanted a safe haven for the night. John was a great host, responded straight away to my last-minute booking, and filled me in on the property. My dog was able to run around and I was also able to walk along the road for a few miles next morning. t’s a great place if you are in a van & just want to get some peace and quiet, watch fireflies, and deer, and get away from it all. Or If you’re looking for a digital detox, a campfire, and some fun exploring with friends, this is the spot. I appreciated how well laid out it was, it was private from the road & magical!
