Sharp's Island is so named because the Sharp family of Richmond owned it as far back as the 1850s. The old brick foundation you see in the pictures is all that remains of a house that was built on the island in 1895 and stood for 75 years! We consider ourselves stewards of an amazing historic, ecological, geologic, and recreational asset, and we would love to have you add your story to this island's long history!

One-of-a-kind really only begins to describe 1-acre Sharp's Island! For starters, this is the only legal camping option in the city of Richmond. You read that correctly. This is your own private island, and it's right in the heart of downtown RVA! The Piedmont meets the Coastal Plain right here at Sharp's Island. That makes for amazing fishing, especially during the spring shad and striper runs.
Some other incredible things about camping at Sharp's Island: You can motor up to it from Ancarrow's Landing, canoe over from the trail just below Mayo Bridge, or make this the destination for your downriver raft/kayak trip; at summer river levels there are oodles of great swimming holes along the banks; fire pit ready and waiting for you. The house was so cute a cozy. It is a real house with electricity, internet, TV, dvd player, and Netflix, a full kitchen, and the bathroom is right beside the upstairs bedroom. The view from the bed in the morning was a beautiful huge tree in the field. Down the hill is a very large pond. I can see a float and canoes that would be great in the summer. There is a huge pavilion beside the lake with couches, a long table, chairs, a grill, and a refrigerator. There are two outside RV toilet stalls at the lake too. When I drove in I saw horses in a field and a little donkey running around, playing in a a pen. I stopped and watched. Close to the house they have goats in a pen and they wanted me to pat them. The owner, Maria, told me I could. She also has a pig and chickens. I enjoyed the solitude but this place would be wonderful for a family outing or corporate retreat. I forgot a few things, so Maria directed me to a nearby Walmart in Tappahannock. I highly recommend a stay at Maria's farm.

Kelly and her family were very kind. I am a traveling vendor and one market ended up having me back on their property around midnight. They were so helpful in making sure I would know where to go and not disturb anyone. Great communication from the beginning and they were very helpful with anything that I needed! Weekend Trip to Circe The Airstream
We had such a wonderful stay at the Circe! It was such a lovely getaway for slow mornings, sipping on coffee, reading and enjoying the views. Our favorite thing to do was cook dinner and eat outside under the stars. Mark was a great host and Colonial Beach is just 4 minutes away. We will definitely be back again!

He was super accommodating and really patient with our anxious pups, which made everything so much easier for us.

We had a blast camping out on Sharp's Island! It was a spontaneous adventure and I'm so glad we were able to book. The island is such a cool spot, we had amazing sunset views and ample room to set up. Andy is a great host, and I'd definitely recommend staying here! The canoe ride over isn't very far and is safe, and Andy will tell you (and like other reviews have said) just pay attention to the tides and river water levels! If you can, time your crossings closer to high tide when the current isn't as strong. If the river is high and it's low tide, paddling to the island can be more of a workout!

My family had an incredible time at John's property. John and his family were gracious hosts. Our family swam in the nearby creek, fished each day we were there (and caught something each time!), hiked a bit, gave the goats a good petting, and otherwise enjoyed being by ourselves in the wilderness. The outhouse that John provides is perfectly adequate. We brought plenty of water knowing that there was no plumbing on site ahead of time. John was also kind enough to help us get our belongings to the site itself after I injured my shoulder prior to our trip. I felt better by the end, but his family still helped us get our belongings back to our car! We really want to come back and have been talking about our trip ever since. Thanks you, John!

Weekend Trip to Circe The Airstream
Cozy, clean and classic experience! Late February early March is an extremely quiet and cozy experience in the Circe airstream with likely only a visit from wild birds. I highly recommend a visit to the airstream of Virginia to enjoy your time fully in a 1984 airstream and appreciate the level of quality from this company. Mark was a super super host and thanks to his accommodations our weekend turned into some great memories. I sincerely appreciated the communication and local suggestions to open restaurants, breweries, and sunset opportunities less than 5 miles away. Mark‘s place really sets the stage for exploring a beautiful part of Virginia even further if you have more than two days or a weekend.
