This Hipcamp isn’t camping or even glamping really. It’s a very nice house in a fairly remote location convenient to several large cities. The home is well appointed. Birdwatching and stargazing were great. It was extremely quiet and peaceful, we barely heard any cars or humans during our stay.

What an amazing little treat for my Kiddos 15th Bday! Instead of material things, she was gifted memories of fireflys, mountain views, hummingbirds, rabbits, butterflys, and tons of gorgeous baby deer! NO HUNTING!!! We saw more stars than Ive ever seen in America! The house was perfectly crafted to meet every need! Beds were SO comfy! Views in every room! Kitchen had everything and then some! Magical trip! The cabin was exactly as described. Host had great communication and helpful tips The place was clean, had some helpful items available and the screened in porch was perfect to enjoy the water views without getting bit by bugs (just typical summer conditions). The cabin is in close proximity to other structures but it was SUPER quiet and peaceful. Easy to drop a kayak in, shuttles are also nearby It should be mentioned that the driveway is long and full of potholes. It’s a bumpy, slow ride. Some low laying vehicles could struggle depending on conditions Overall we’d definitely come back

This spot really exceeded expectations! Thought it’d be musty and dark with lumpy beds and a smelly outhouse, which would have been fine. The hazard is bright and airy with a very pleasant fresh smell (not a covering gross perfume). The beds were comfy and the outhouse was for what it is great. Lots of flat soft ground for tents or games. River access was easy. We did 17 miles from here to front royal boat ramp in six hours first day. River was high. Gorgeous trip but no rapids to speak of. Did 10 miles second day from seekford. Great class two at mile one, lots of class 1s and ripples after. Shuttle is a bit of a bear for that at 45 minutes each way.

Our homestead is located up a steep gravel road and though the property is secluded, the cabin is near the main house. It is a Family atmosphere and a living farm so there will be noise from domestic and wild animals. Unplug and reconnect with Nature. No Wi-Fi or electricity, but a mini solar panel charges a light. Be aware there are snakes and spiders; creepy crawlers of all types. We are a chemical free property, please don’t bring toxins onto the site (this includes chemical bug sprays). We’ll help remove critters as needed. Elevation 1200ft; we’re 1/4 mile from Shenandoah National Park. Guided hikes and farm tours available (for a fee) if interested! We also have eggs for sale when our chickens are laying.Come stay in a secluded, relaxed environment where you can unplug and reconnect with Nature. We’ve learned a lot over the years about living with The Land and want to share this space with like-minded others. We tend to “rise with the Sun, and sleep when it’s done”, so don’t be surprised if you see David or myself, or our kids playing/working on site. If you like to chat, we’re usually available, if you like your privacy, we respect that too. There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases. We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too! Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!

#1Rock Tavern River Kamp sits on acre and half on the banks of the Shenandoah River! We offer 7 yurts and 5 tent sites at main kamp. We are just 5 min from River Hill Distillery, 7 min drive to Luray Caverns. 20 min drive to Shenandoah National Park…lots of hiking, fishing, boating, horseback riding, and civil war museums in the area. I purchased this property in 2013 ---my Uncle Abe Kibler and Aunt Lizzie Good Kibler owned and operated a tavern across the road for years and rented river lots to their guests---in time this 265 acre spread was sold and divided to many. I am grateful to have a little piece of the Rock Tavern History back in the family. I have so many fond memories of floating the river with my family while growing up and I love sharing this experience with others while offering families the opportunity to create lasting memories!

The Luray Caverns, a national historic site, with it’s famous Great Stalacpipe Organ, are just a few minutes away, and tubing, canoeing, and white-water rafting adventure can be found at the nearby Shenandoah River.
