If relaxing on the ridge line and enjoying the views are not enough, hike down to the river via the powerline cut or trails and swim, paddle, or fish (WV license required...one day passes are available online). The campsite is very private, but it's possible you will see a friendly neighbor pass by on the trail or see folks staying at the cabin in the valley along the river flats if you go down to the river or you can get a bird's eye view of cabins in the valley across the river from the top. The campsite is no trace so you must bag out all garbage and waste. Cat holes and such are not permitted so campers must bring and use a camp toilet. During exceptionally dry periods, open fire restrictions may be put in effect. You will need a four wheel drive vehicle to access the site. If not, or in inclement weather (snow or heavy rains), you can hike in from the state road where the access road begins. Learn more about this land: The property's history dates back to pre-European settlement and was originally inhabited by Native Americans with archaeological evidence dating back at least 10,000 years. After European settlement, numerous of battles were fought in the area during the French and Indian War, American Revolution, and it was even a cross-roads for armies during the Civil War. Farming, sustenance farming, and logging were the primary industries throughout the region. Later, during the Industrial Revolution, the river, limestone, charcoal, and iron ore from the area fueled a local iron bloomery, which the area, "Bloomery," is still named. The land you are camping on was nearly completely logged over the last hundred years, but a few old growth trees can still be found throughout the mixed hardwoods forest. On the way to the campsite you will also pass the old original school house (now a hunting cabin) located on a neighbor's adjoining property. There are still a few old timers left that attended the one room schoolhouse as children, but the building predates them by many years. There is also an old Methodist Cemetery located on the property (not near the campsite) that dates back to the 1700s. If you happen to find this site, please do not disturb it.

Weekend Trip to Shenandoah Valley MTN

My friend and I brought our pups up here for a night and can’t recommend it enough. The site is private, close to a few wineries/breweries, and has great views. Be sure to follow the 4WD guidance - we didn’t have to use it but I can see how rain a day or two before could make for an interesting drive up. The leaves this time of year also made it a bit slick. Overall, the campsite was exactly what we were hoping for and we’ll be back if camping in the area again!

Weekend Trip to HUNTER'S PARK BY WASHINGTON, DC

Hunters Park at Mezza Luna Farm was awesome. We stayed in the T1 site. Plenty of room for multiple tents and cars. There's firewood for sale right by the site, which was very convenient. There was an outdoor sink at the site, which was nice (though in colder months the water is shut off). There's a porta potty that was very clean - maybe the cleanest portapotty I've ever seen. The farm is beautiful with lots of horses to see. You're allowed to go visit them in the stables. There's plenty of paths to walk around the property if you want to go on a hike. Keith came by to visit - very friendly and welcoming. One family in our group had a couple small children. They did fine and loved seeing the horses. Damascus is very close by - easy access to groceries if you need anything. We'll be back again!

Weekend Trip to Beaver Cove

My husband and I had a wonderful time with our 3 dogs camping on Lynda's property for a weekend trip to Shenandoah! The dogs loved being able to run around and play off leash. We set up camp next to the creek where the fire pit was, and it was so quiet and peaceful. We did not use the electric but used the water spigot, which was just a short walk from where we set up camp. We definitely did not explore the property as much as we could have since we spent most of our time there relaxing by the fire after hiking in the national park, but it is absolutely beautiful and there is tons to explore! We hauled a pop up camper with a Ford Excursion, which worked great for us and we are used to doing this kind of thing, but I will say when Lynda says you need 4WD to get down the hill to the creek camping area she is not lying. Use your judgement. If you are not comfortable hauling something up and down a very steep hill and driving on a narrow dirt road, don't chance it. You can definitely get stuck. There is another area where you can set up camp and can still explore the property all the same! Shenandoah is just a short drive away, which makes this the perfect location. There is a road next to the property but it is a quiet back road - only a couple cars when by during our time there. We definitely recommend Lynda's property!!!

One of the best camp sites I have ever been to! VERY family friendly. Exceptionally well maintained. Host was very responsive and provided clear directions on how to get to the site. Rocks denoted the location for the campfire. Great path to go for a hike in the morning. Close to the town to pick up graham crackers or whatever else you forgot before camping. However still felt very secluded. Could not say enough good things.

Beaver cove was wonderful for my girlfriend and I. Lynda went above and beyond to make our stay enjoyable. The lake, paddle boats, river and site just amazed us. We loved it here. Almost didn’t write a review because I don’t want everyone staying here! But cheers to Lynda, great work! The fishing was amazing btw

Weekend Trip to Riverside Mountain Retreat

Beautiful (especially in the fall), secluded spot up on the mountain with a view of the valley below. Had a great experience camping despite a little rain. Follow the directions carefully to find the spot - many of the paths were covered by leaves so not always clear. Definitely need a 4x4 to get there! Host even left out a bucket of water to douse the fire.

What an incredible site! You have endless space to yourself, a creek to explore, a lake with boats, flat land for your tent, a picnic table, and a fire pit. Just set up your own portable potty and you’re good to go. We didn’t find the water pump but filtered the creek water which was very convenient. Lynda was communicative and helpful. Our free-ranging dog and young son had a blast. Can’t wait to return in warmer weather for a longer stay.

Weekend Trip to #1 Rock Tavern River Kamp

Everything was really great! The beautiful location was so amazing for a relaxing weekend. We appreciated how well-supplied the site was. Anything we forgot was readily available. It does say to bring linens. That was not needed for us but having an extra blanket is great for those colder nights. We highly recommend waking up early to see the sunrise over the mountains. The mist on the water was so magical and we even saw a mink walking right up to us!

It was so nice being tucked away from society but close enough to a grocery store. There was still a little phone service for AT&T. Fire pit worked beautifully. We were able to fit our Wawona 6 tent and 4Runner and still have plenty of space to walk around. The need for 4WD up to the site is true.

Perfect little camping spot — quiet and secluded. Will be coming back. Having the right car is a must especially after a rain — not a mud issue but rocks move around and change the line a bit making it a little tougher to maneuver up the hill but we were fine in a Forester.

Very quiet and private campsite. Definitely make sure u have an AWD SUV, as indicated on the posting. Feels very secluded but only ~10 min into town in case you need to grab something and close to the national park. Definitely recommend!

Our group of nearly 30 people (including 20 kids!) had the most incredible time at this horse farm campsite. It was truly out-of-this-world perfect! The property is beautiful, peaceful, and full of fun things to do, but what really made the experience special was Keith, the owner. He is so kind, welcoming, and helpful—he went above and beyond to make sure everything was just right for us. The kids loved every minute, from exploring the farm to visiting the horses, and the adults couldn’t have asked for a better setting to relax and enjoy time together. It’s rare to find a place that works so well for such a big group, but this farm was absolutely perfect. We’ve already decided this will be an annual event and can’t wait to be back next fall. Highly, highly recommend!
