Nestled on the Navidad River, just 8 miles east of Edna in Jackson County, Texas, this reservoir was created by the construction of the Palmetto Bend Dam, which began in 1968 and was completed in 1979. Managed by the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority, Lake Texana serves as a vital source of drinking water for nearby communities and industries, being the only reservoir under the Authority's management. For fishing enthusiasts, Lake Texana offers a diverse range of fish species, including catfish, bass, and crappie, thanks to regular stocking efforts aimed at enhancing recreational fishing opportunities. The lake is also home to a variety of native plant species, such as coontail, spikerush, cattail, pondweed, bull's tongue, pickerel weed, and duckweed, which contribute to the area's rich ecosystem. We had a great time! Lots of space at Coyote Corner for a large group and Skull Tree is a pretty cool more intimate spot with a lot of shade. There was a nice peaceful spot to sit overlooking the creek. Outhouse was solid and had a solid toilet to sit on, very clean. It was nice seeing the cows up close and our dogs had a blast out there. Alana was a five star host and went above and beyond to take care of our needs. We look forward to booking there again soon.

Please Note: We tent camp to fish so our experience was based on mostly fishing. We had a great time! This spot is about 100 yards from the beach. There is a public bathroom and outdoor showers nearby. There are piers and small jetties to fish from close by. There is a boat ramp about 5mins away at Indianola. Marc has a nice little setup on the back end of the camp for some fishing and we were easily able to launch kayaks into the saltwater lake/marsh. Saw tons of big reds. Unfortunately, the wind (20s sustained & 40mph gust) limited our time and range on the kayaks. Even so, we were able to catch a nice slot red in the marsh that we gifted to Marc. Definitely don't recommend wade fishing back there due to the soil being very muddy/soft and is a major safety hazard. 1 step and your leg is calf deep in the mud (wouldn't wanna get stuck or sucked into the deeper parts of the lake). Marc was great and we definitely plan to revist in the summer.

Cool camping spot that you wouldn’t expect in a place like Goliad. We stayed in the Skulltree camp and the shade the two oak trees produce is perfect on warmer days. It stays ten to fifteen degrees cooler in the shade. Plenty of space to set up camp, there were quite a few fire ant mounds within the campsite so be careful for that. Hosts were fantastic, great communication prior to showing up, and they leave you be, wish we really loved and appreciate! Would highly recommend!!
